When I was young i was a good kid I can say I only got "spanked" two times. But honestly it didn't help I just felt hurt and cried my eyes out, with me talking to me and not "yelling" was way more effective b/c I'm sensitive and when I was young I was really sensitive. Agreed. Child discipline should start at home, but as an educator, I tend to agree more with Kevin. I feel like the children are out of control and teachers have little or no support from parents anymore. Granted, there are lunes out there that don't need to be teachers, but it's my opinion that the reason for this is because the parents are often still children themselves and still have a child's mentality when it comes to appropriate behavior at school. IMO, a parent should put some fear into a child, and I think a child should be submissive to their parent. I attend the school and knew the boy that was sat on by the teacher. he was very sweet. He was in anger management classes though. The teacher sat on him to restrain him because he was about to walk out the class room. A couple of days after he die, they had grief counseling for the students. One question that other students and I asked was why did she have to sit on him. It still remains unanswered till this day.

Agreed. Child discipline should start at home, but as an educator, I tend to agree more with Kevin. I feel like the children are out of control and teachers have little or no support from parents anymore. Granted, there are lunes out there that don't need to be teachers, but it's my opinion that the reason for this is because the parents are often still children themselves and still have a child's mentality when it comes to appropriate behavior at school. It's really unfortunate. Happy 2010!!

I don't think it's okay to talk to your kids crazy or always spank, what happened to just talking and explaining things to your kid. Sometimes it can be productive for some kids but, I always hear people talking about how they used to get beat but was still doing the same shit so how did the spanking help? Anywho when it comes down to it people do what they do anyway.

Norway, Sweden and Denmark made spanking children illegal 20 or 30 years ago. Today they have the lowest crime rates on earth. Their maximum jail term (even for murder) is something like 23 years. They actually rehabilitate prisoners instead of making them worse in prison.
I don't think an ocassional spank is a big deal, but we've all seem women spanking their kids endlessly and calling their kids stupid endlessly. That makes the child a future criminal for sure.

The whole ordeal with security and airports isn't really scaring me. Now it's not the most comforting, but I'm not afraid of it. I damn sure can't get scared now, seeing that I'm heading to London on Saturday, and that's a long ass flight. All I can do is pray that God sees me through to my destination safely. And pray for the same for others. And make sure I get my black ass to that airport extra EARLY, especially since it's an international flight.

IMO, a parent should put some fear into a child, and I think a child should be submissive to their parent. I'm not a parent (I'm 21 btw), but I got whoopings and I'm not some distraught, angry, rebellious kid. Even as a young woman I think the old school way of disciplining kids is the best way. All this letting children speak over you, have 100% of their say in everything is ridiculous to me. Beating and whooping kids are different imo. But, what can I say, everybody has their own methods.

I am going to be in New York this Saturday also. I was born in Haiti and it is perfectly natural for teachers to hit the students, but obviously in the United States that teacher would have gotten arrested. I attend the school and knew the boy that was sat on by the teacher. he was very sweet. He was in anger management classes though. The teacher sat on him to restrain him because he was about to walk out the class room. A couple of days after he die, they had grief counseling for the students. One question that other students and I asked was why did she have to sit on him. It still remains unanswered till this day.
