  • Boring???? Ahh, ok. Everyone to their own opinion. My opinion is this...a superb voice, excellent acting using words and music, great sense of timing, fantastic range...truly, this song was not done better by any other.

  • thanks Barbra for the french part... ;-)

  • I love this song , no matter how many years goes throw

  • Loves the Bab's... What can I say, she just fits....

  • Certain music can't suit everybody! So the lovers of this kind of music that see the beauty and the deep emotional touch it gives will never be understood by people the think BORING is BORING!!!!!

  • Love Streisand:) This is the best version for me.

  • bravo

  • soooooo overrated so boring

  • @5050zulu1 , LOL! She's not overrated, but she is boring. She sings the same style of music year after year, and it is all "put you to sleep" type of music

  • @SpazChat She is not boring, you have a problem with your sense of music. Her music is not for type of people like you.

  • @butchviet , I listened to all the greats and enjoy many of them. Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Josephine Baker, Nancy Wilson, Nat King Cole, Neena Freelon, etc. So don't sit there and imply I don't understand or know what I'm talking about when I say Babs is boring. Yeah, she has a unique voice, but she's still boring, and she has the stage presence of a pile of shit.

  • Barbra, please don't go away.

  • A really beautiful performance.

  • Terrible.

  • wow she is so beautilful

  • I think the French version is better(listen to Celine's)

    but Barbra is also great

    I love them both

  • I really admire her voice but this song is too much for her... too much for a simple presentation... sorry

  • This song simply doesn't have the passion and intent in english that it has in french.

  • @jandminnkeepers True, But You should listen to the version by Dusty Springfield, very vell done :)

  • she's no shirley bassey

  • Pff in English its all of a sudden a boring and cliche song...

Who is the translator... I demand an explaination, what happend to the poetry?

What a disgrace! Its translated by an amateur on a spare afternoon.

  • @Loupland omg i so agree with you, After listening to Celine's Ne quittez pas, this is sub-par and amateurish at best and the lyrics bore me to tears. where is the pain!~

  • @Loupland patricia kaas sang it in english with the french accent and it was amazing, barbra's performance is plain and somewhat disappointing... i'd expect more from her.

  • @kissmybabytwo

Patricia Kaas?!! is that a real name? :P

Kaas means cheese in my language. It sounds like a joke name haha

But anyway, I saw the the first version of Jacques brel... I dont know if you heared that one but i bet a hundred Euro you cant keep it dry. You WILL cry. Jacques Brel-Ne me quitte pas (Eng. Subtitles) <--- type that in...

The way the song is ment to be sung.

  • Barbra is good, no doubt about it. I don't care much for her rendition of this version. i remember seeing Dusty Springfield sing this in a little bar in the north SF Valley in 1966 or 1967 (just a gathering of friends) and she was AWESOME!

  • @mikekui For me, Dusty's version is in a different league from everyone else's - beautiful and sad beyond belief. But I like this too.

  • @Nicklas4500 Yes. she was quite a person. i really enjoyed getting to know dusty, even if only very briefly. but yes, i suppose barbra's version is okay. i do like her album, "classical barbra". just full of surprises.

  • "we'll talk to the trees and worship the wind.." wtf? Brel would cringe.

  • This is blasphemy! How dare she butcher Brel's masterpiece like that?!

  • Barbra was 67 years old while singing this, and u say she's not good O,o

try breathing at 67 u'll even have a problem let alone singing

  • I belive that Brel was abandoned really, therefore he sings better than anyone because he is not acting but suffering while he sings the song.

  • i have read most of these comments about bab's version of this song and understand them but also you are comparing a woman in her 60's with the other artist who perfomed the same song at much younger ages..if she had done it in her earlier years it may have sounded better..think about it..

  • Way ruin a classic. :|

  • @Badgerinthenight Sorry, Babs has redefined a classic and made it her own. Just check out the number of people who have listened to her youtube version. Oh btw, this was on her number one album "Love is the Answer." Celine who?

  • I have just heard this version and DO NOT like it! With all the respect, Barbra deserves, I think she is a great singer, but this version y awful.

  • I do prefer the version of Neil Diamond,,,It touches my heart.

  • Sorry but this is very ordinary. Dusty Springfield, Shirley Bassey and Judith Durham performances are far superior with this song

  • i love frida bocarra's version best.. the piano is amazing.. charming and aristocratic playing and singing

  • Jacques Brel permite em sua obra, transmitir muuuita emoção. Não é a potência da voz, não é a capacidade, a técnica, mas a Alma ! Nem todos conseguem... Para mim, ela tb. não atingiu o clímax.

  • i love it, but nina simone has done a great job also

  • i love it, but nina has done a great job also

  • Barbra is the best in the world, but Jacques Brel's "Ne me quite pas" is the best in the universe!

  • makes me cry every time

  • Oh dear... such affectation here. I really preferred Dame Shirley Bassey's version...more powerrful and natural. Barbra is really too artificial for words.

  • @avuncular300 -- Interesting. I think it's exactly the opposite. Bassey is way over the top, affectation and mannerisme but little real emotion.

  • beautiful poem... great song... thanks for sharing...

  • Oh, Barbra...oh, Barbra. What talents you have. Need I say more?

  • Oy veyesmere !! I`m kvelling............. xo ;)

  • Do another song with Celine Babs!

  • Like it? How about Love it! La Streisand is the best!!!!

  • Brel se muere de pena y es inigualable.Pero esto está muy bien.

  • SHE THE BEST SUPER STAR NO ONE CAN MUCH THIS VOICE

  • What about Rod McKuen's version(s)????

He and Brel together words and music....come on people listen to the originators of this beautiful song.

  • What about Rod McKuen's version(s)????

  • What about McKuen's version???

  • This has to be sung in French

  • Dusty springfield is way better .....

  • Barbra Streisand's version is THE BEST of ANY,PERIOD!!

CelineD is just another brainless 8th grade dropout screamer.

  • @ajmannn u are crazy?u dont know what u speak

  • barbraaaa, barbraaa, and barbraaaa.......forget about those others even if they satisfy all of you......with theyre competetive , but not angelic, and soft voice like barbraaaaa...........

  • Barbara sang this so lovely

  • Bellísima interpretación de este clásico inmortal. ¡GRANDE, GRANDE, BARBRA!

  • I think NINA SIMONE VERSION IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL

    BUT EVEN THIS IS NICE

  • and how about Nina's simone version?excellent!and Barbra..Barbra..

  • i love this song.

  • also- check out Dusty Springfield- how I got here-all are good!

  • i came here after Shirley's version.... i shouldnt have,

    this woman sings it dreadfully

  • i love her....i just love her voice........perfect....in her inperfection...!

  • Still there best there is. Forget Celine and Mariah and Whitney, Barbra is the real deal.

  • Barbra sadly, as great as you are... Shirley Bassey just blows you away. You version sound as amatuerish as a contestant on American Idol compared to Basseys

  • Sorry to all fans, but this is a train wreck compared to the passion of the original. Even Céline Dion does a much better job performing it live in her new Vegas show.

  • Merveilleusement interprètée!

  • I remember Rod McKuen's version. It had the poet's ability to FEEL the song, the emotions. Babs, of course, can sing the phone book, but Rod's is the one I remember, the one that turned on a generation to feelings and emotions. If you listen to his, remember that he is a POET, not a singer. This song really doesn't need to be sung. Makes me weep just hearing the words, all these years later.

  • q Barbaraaaaa...

  • Please check out the late brazilian singer, Maysa Matarazzo's version! The original artist, Jacques Brel even called Maysa admitting that her version was better than his. By listening to it you'll see why :)

  • look up the version by the late brazilian singer, Maysa Matarazzo. The original composer, Jacques Brel actually called Maysa admitting that her version was better than his. :)

  • Ci sono pezzi che la voce va esplosa ed altri contenuta! Brava Barbara!!..

  • This is beautifully sung by Ms Streisand. She actually wrote the English lyrics.

  • My favorite on the album. It was playing on the radio on my way into Paris last May!

  • nice voiceee

  • she sings so beautiful

  • @shillyshally I coudn't agree more with you! I love this but its almost a tribute to Dusty, so much a version of her version! I don't think anyone I have heard yet can surpass Dusty with this song.

  • You hadn't yet listened to

/ Dusty Springfield - If You Go Away

    watch?v=wyCVxPEPx5Y

  • Hermosa canciòn e interpretaciòn. Por supuesto es la Streissand.

  • absolutely beautiful

  • Exquisita voz

  • she sings this song w/ so much passion!! soo emotional!! Absolutely love this version =)

  • Absolutely Beautiful... and the French is awesome too. Barbara is a legend and still one of my all time favorites.

  • celine dions french version is amazing look it up! i loove it she sang it two days ago and i loove it! so muvh emotion and passion

  • @Krobra91 i personally have always liked best the edith piaf version, but barbra´s lovely too

  • @Krobra91 She annoys me with too much vibrato. Strong voice but she still hasn't learned, less is more.

  • @Krobra91 She ups the volume but neglects to infuse this piece with necessary emotion. It is a shame that here, as well as in much of her work, she equates loud with passion. Ms. Dion, less really is more.

  • @Krobra91 Dion equates emotion with volume . . . too much vibrato. Celine has superb pipes but she has yet to learn that less is more.

  • My God Streisand nails this song. I've never heard such a sad song before--the saddest. She sounds great in French too!

  • cette version anglaise avec refrain en français est belle, Bravo à Barbara d'avoir donné son interprétation, mais je préfére celle du Grand JACQUES BREL,car pour moi, il a su donner ,à la sienne, une sensibilité très forte

  • Barbra is a legend !!! she can sing anything she wants ! she can do any cover it will still be great even if the original version is supreme!

    big up barbra!

  • great song no need to tranleat it in english!!! the original version is more than best you can t compare!!!!!

  • I disagree, I love words and the subtle meanings and nuances that can be understood & implied. I, agree that languages foreign to me can be & are beautiful at times but for music, other than opera give me the English every time.

  • yes indeed as he says you should try the original version , even it is in french you don't need to undersatand what he is singing you will feel what he is saying !! ( if you can see also subtitels in english or any other laguage that will be even more since the origion words are something also ). enjoy it .

i did a lot and always i go back to listen to it .

  • Did she write this lyrics ?

  • @Juliaschildhood It was written by Jacques Brel much earlier. Became popular with French singer Patricia Kaas. Her (Patricia's) version is just classic. Much better than this.

  • @Juliaschildhood No she didn't, written by Jacques Brel, "ne Me Quitte Pas". This song made popular by Patricia Kaas, a French singer. Her (Patricia) version is the best, just a classic.

  • @jchatlani I mean, I know of course Jacques Brel's version in french by heart, but the meaning is not the same at the beginning... anyway I didn't hear her singing french after, so... Patricia' version, better than Jacques one ? I really don't agree !

  • @Juliaschildhood Sorry for misunderstanding your question, much lost in translation when the entire thought process is not captured by a reader. On who is better, Patricia or Jacques? To each their own indeed....Either way we will both agree a beautiful song.

  • @jchatlani Agree :)

  • Simply beautiful! Thank you Barbra for all you have given us over the years. Love You Always, Frank

  • Very beautiful, but my absolute favourite version is by Patricia Kaas, listen to it, guys...

  • To Nikoenig.Thank you, I did go and listen to Jacques version(s) and agree they are very moving. Hard for me to receive a male singing it though. I get lost in my music and need a female version to relate/fantasize to. As one female wrote in one of the Jacques versions was "if someone sang those words that way to me I would fall in love instantly". The male singer does it for her, Barbara for me. But lovely versions of a terrific song from an era when words had meaning.

  • @Blackduck46 It's "funny", because Brel said, when he wrote this song that it was a song about men's cowardice :)

  • @Melusine2001

Ahhh, he is right. All men are cowards given the right circumstance.

We would all be lap dogs to the unreachable heart. His words have

no rythym but it is lost in the french dialect. That said he would resort to

doing anything to keep her love, even humiliating himself (shadow of her dog)

But where would we old romantics be if we hadn't suffered along our journey.

Guess why I identify with Don Quixote. (Man from La Mancha)

  • Barbara will be in the history books as one of the great artist of our times. I consider her to be a renaissance woman.

  • Meravigliosa interprete... Bellissima canzone...

  • I've just listened to Shirly Bassey, Patricia Kaas, and I believe this version is by far the best, though I love all three singers. Barbara has sung this with feeling that I doubt the others could replicate. This is such a lovely version.

  • @Blackduck46 Have you tried the original version??? give it a shot... Jacques Brel. Do me a favor and give it a try, Barbara is good but he litteraly lives the song ^^

  • @Nikoenig agreed, but Nina Simone speaks to my soul with her cover!

  • @Nikoenig this song is beautiful in any language...even if you don't know the words in French...the music and sentiment...penetrates the heart and soul...

  • MARAVILLOSA BARBRA!!!

  • Shirley Bassey version I'm in love with

  • @Cosmictalk at last! bassey's version of this is by far the best. however, if you fancy a laugh, listen to madonna's version!

  • nice, very nice

but still my favorite of all is with Patricia Kaas, she is original !!!!

  • @argyroulamou i know i ♥ patricia kaas. u cant compare this to patricia kaas's singing

  • To the naysayers, she broke the mold in the 60s, her unique looks, her singing standards with unique arrangements that defied convention. She hit notes that no one else could. She paved the way for other greats like Bassey, Celine etc. There is a reason she is a legend in her own time and revered by all singers and respected in the entertainment industry as a pioneer woman, singing, acting, directing, writing and composing. I have to give credit where credit is due.

  • she is so over rated . I have heard better karaoke singers in my local pub.

  • @5050zulu1 When you were drunk ?

  • @5050zulu1 amen!

  • No one ever sing this song like shirley ,, i mean never.

  • Good but Dusty Springfield's rendition of this song is the best!

  • sorry to tell you guys, regardless of the artist's talent, the english version is a shame to the poetry of the original french lyrics.

  • @eponj If they did not hear it from Brel, no one would appreciate the poem at all!!

  • She makes the same mistake usually done with this song, starting from the author himself: she overdramatizes it. The lyrics do not need that treatment, in my opinion: they're already dramatic (actually, the french lyrics are overdramatic: I prefer McKuen's) no need for overemphasizing. That's why I still think Sinatra's version is still the best around.

  • Barbara !...one of the most beautiful voices ever been !!!

  • When the great artists sing AMAZING songs, then write the history of music

  • Horrible cover. For all I know Madonna's better

  • @nothingfails99 I only know Madonna for all her Oscar winner films.

  • pointless version

  • @itnow pointless post itnow

  • Comment removed

  • She is indeed the Andy Williams in a woman version....that means a great voice...lol

  • @TheSwanlake2009 We can't all have Madonna or Lada Gaga's Oscar winning talent. Oh wait, they haven't won any Oscars. I meant Tonys. Oops, wrong again. Emmy Awards. Oops, nope that goes to Barbra's credit as well. Never mind. :)

  • She conveys emotion, like no other.

  • Amazing Babs !!!

  • Wish I had posted this song on Facebook before she left.

  • superbe interpretation et en plus une parti en francais !!!!

  • The same old charm and lovely rich voice. Amazing!!!

    Keep it up:)

  • Bitch can still out sing any contemporary out there.

  • Full of feelings that can tear the heart of the listener. A broken hearted man may commit suicide if he hear this song.

  • IF YOU GO AWAY. PERFECT SONG

  • feel stupid for sayin this...but i've never heard this lady before.she is amazing.gorgeous voice, beautiful song.

  • no one can sing this song like nina simone...

  • @have14theroad Indeed.

  • Of course better in frech... another taste.

  • if i have not heard how Shirley Bassey sing this same song, Barbra will be great . . . At this point NO ONE can sing this song like Shirley Bassey... PERIOD . . . how good is Shirley?? you feel it to the bone, how she felt if "he go away" when she sing this song...

  • a great cover of a fantastic song, and I love Barbra, she is the best, however...Dusty for me just takes the edge..another of the worlds great female vocalists...

  • The french version by Jacques Brel, is a jewell... this one is good, but not even kinda close...

The french lyrics are amazing. Jacques brel was a genius as a writter, english could never translate the lyrics as they are, with all that they mean in french...

  • I adore Barbra..... always have, always will. ♥

  • Très belle interprétation Barbra Streisand de

Cette chanson de Brel ( ne me quitte pas)

Très bonne chanteuse mais aussi très grande

Actrice j'aime beaucoup FUNNY GIRL ! Film

Comédie Musicale avec (Omar Sharif ) elle est formidable Barbra Streisand .

  • hahahah i cant take her seriously, if you guys genuinely like this song than you need to step up your taste buds to some real music

  • @ulas1986

Truly an idiotic comment, this women has been on top for the last 50 years. You get some real music taste buds.

  • @ulas1986 if by real music you mean the ones you have in your favorites list then no thanks. I know each person has different tastes but as far as actual talent, few of the people on your list come near Barbara's caliber of talent.

  • @lasktguy barbara sucks

  • @ulas1986 no, Barbara is an amazing singer. You suck because you're a closed minded, blinder wearing, obviously very stupid dimwit who wouldn't know talent if it slapped you in the face...and someone should.

  • @lasktguy DUDE SHE SUCKS, and she has a dick... shes a hermaphrodite whore and she had bukake from 32 guys on live television once... listen to some celine dion or something, atleast shes canadian

  • @ulas1986 okay I see now. You're a stupid, immature troll. Not worth the bother.

  • @lasktguy atleast im not a lonely old man listening to shitty barbara streizand songs imagining what its like to have sex with a man

  • Comment removed

  • @lasktguy wow dude, i've never seen someone get so defensive over being a closet homo. i love how you change your mind on barbarian streisand as soon as i told you she was a she -man. you're totally a desperate mid life criser... do you have a corvette yet, or is your salary not enough for that.

hold on to what you got old man <3
