  • the president has concerns about uhhhh eehhh... concerns about ummm... eehh.... taking....eehhh.... large amounts of funding out of the system....uhhhh... ehh.....

  • I've had so many bad teachers... thank god (actually, thank the market) we have YouTube so John Stossel can show me the ropes. And thank you LibertyPen for uploading.

  • Man, this reminds me of my one teacher that literally gave up half-way through my middle-school algebra. He just came to class, had a homework assignment written on the board, and sat back at his desk the entire class period instead of teaching. I bet if I call up the school he's still working there.

  • If anyone doesn't understand the inherent problem with public education just go to 7:27.

  • The free market has never failed to offer products or services of ever increasing quality at lower or stable costs. Vouchers are better than pure government schools but it's still theft by taxation to pay for it. I'm being robbed to pay for the education of other people's kids.

  • John Stossel your shows can be inspirational.

  • The president had concerns about .. ahh..union contributions and or retaliation. The money is HALF of what the DE-education systems steals and the money comes with a kid, they have 1 less with each voucher.

  • I will homeschool my children.

  • Union teachers disgust me. I have a theory - higher pay and benefits for public school teachers resulted in more bad teachers. How could that be? Decades ago teachers were poorly paid, and the only people who taught were people who wanted to teach. Nowadays the pay and benefits are so strong that even people who don't care about teaching become teachers. And the bad apples are protected by the union, never to be fired for their incompetence.

  • @megagagnon1 Good pay and benefits are not the problem. Lack of accountability is the problem.

If teachers were paid for results instead of simply showing up, then the more money they made would be a direct indicator of how well they performed.

That being said you're right on the money about unions.

  • The uploader needs to change the title of the video. A dash can be confused for a minus sign though I bet John Stossel could run many schools better than the government in some areas like D.C. The title should be instead if your going with a math equation "John Stossel + School Choice = Better Schools". LOL!

  • Trust me I am in a public school and it is not as bad as this kids was but it is bad in a different sense. All they teach in my school is simple liberal propaganda that most of the students fall for. I am very luck I have conservative parents, Thomas Sowell and this great channel.

  • Amen. Save the children, kill the teachers unions.

  • There is a reason American colleges are world class and American public schools are horrible. It's because one is run under capitalist principles and the other is run under socialist principles.

  • @TheTubbtubb LOL good point...

  • @carlindelco Thanks. I don't understand how millions of Americans fail to see such an obvious sign that public schools are terrible.

  • The poor can't get into private schools, which are generally better than public ones, because their tax dollars aren't attached to the students. How does it make sense to keep the poor in public schools, while allowing the rich to go into private schools? I thought the left was all about equality... Oh thats right, policies that create "equality" to them usually end up with far different results than their intentions.

    I really hate union thugs.

  • @groam6666 You are absolutely right. Liberal politicians clearly like union money a lot more than American children.

  • Salman Khan for Sec. of Edu!

  • This video would have been better without quoting chairman Mao at the end.

  • @vidarfreyr I think it cleverly conveyed the point of socialists saying one thing while acomplishing the opposite at the same time illustrating that the "cold blooded" free market and competition would actually accomplish those things.

  • @seeqr9 Good point!

  • 1st amendment-style separation of education and state can be the only lasting solution.

  • @richardcadbury Exactly. Government involvement in education = indoctrination = enhanced government power = tyranny.

  • @bigfatgolder you said it brother.

  • Comic Sans? NO!

  • Poor young man was so nervous he was making me nervous! But this was a great video because it highlights the major problem with the public school system: the absence of choice.

Plus, as Stossel points out, if a public school has very low performance it doesn't get new ownership of go out of business, however in the private market the losers lose and the winners win.

    btw

    Ron Paul 2012

  • The voucher program is a failure because it doesn't fatten the pockets of the Union bosses.

  • @bigfatgoider LOL
