@ritupm . Speaking of Bengal, Ritu,Priyanshu Chatterjee plays the character Trilok (brother to Puro, played by the Maharashtrian Urmila Matondkar), and Seema Biswas plays the tragic role of a girl gone insane because of the outrages inflicted on her-- something that happened often in Partition's savage carnage. All characters regardless of their own different roots were fully in tune with Punjabi mores and styles in the movie. Very impressive.
there is another very impactful movie- 'Garam Hawa' by M S Sathyu, it deals with post-partition conditions for a muslim family in India. its surely a worth watch, highly thought-provocating and Kaifi Azmi's lyrics as well as screenplay is simply superb!!!!
Excellent story and superb, affecting perfomances by Urmila Matondkar and Manoj Vajpeyi. I have seen 4 v. good films on humanity being salvaged and coming out triumphant from the trauma of Partition: Pinjar, Earth, Train to Pakistan, and Kartar Singh, the last one made in Pakistan. Of these I consider Kartar Singh and Pinjar the best. Thanks for uploading the movie. And a salute to the late Amrita Pritam, a true pritam to all who love Punjabi culture and literature.
@chamogaa Your comment is far reaching and carries a profound impact.
The clip depicts rural and partly urban culture of Punjab. The simple and innocent expression of joy in such a playful style is heart touching. True that happiness lies in simple and small things.

Is the girl in orange (the one dancing), the same girl that played preti (Kajols fiance's younger sis) in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge?

Oh what a WONDERFUL glimpse & a BURST of a COLORFUL celebration from PUNJAB!:) THE "Heartland" of pre-partition India/Pakistan!
The moment the EUPHORIC Powerful DHOL took over at 0:11, I joined in,
in spirit :) - to rejoice & dance in JOY & UNISON with the others, as it SHOULD be!:)
LOVE PINJAR, & the HEARTY CULTURE of PUNJAB! :)
(ironically as much as the delicate musical depth of Bengal!:)
A Salute indeed to AMRITA PRITAM Ji!
THANKS! To chamogaa Ji too! :)
VIVA CAMARADERIE! :)15NOV.2010'

@chamogaa Another memorable movie on the same theme is "Khamosh Pani " (Silent water). As I understand it it is a sequel to Pinjar.

pinjar was a great movie and but it is so under-rated in bollywood...it should have got more recognition and won many awards.
