  • Yes, this is the way to play it!

  • "My music should only be played on Bechstein pianos"

    -Claude Debussy, 1912

  • Hm... A bit like Lang Lang... head movement and exaggerated fermatta... Good Job Scott!

  • It's marked p and pp with the occasional as well as "et tres leger". A child this age has no conception of what Debussy was going for and shouldn't be allowed to go near it. There are better pieces they can attack with their youthful zeal. Hold back these pieces for for a later date - when the the concept of "music" finally drops in.

  • I think he does feel it, you wiseacres should see that too..

  • oh my god. im doing this for my grade8 exam, im 16 this year, and he's speed is 10x faster than mine. abit embarassed XD hahaaa. i only started to learn piano when i was 9 ( or 8) LOL! this kid is talented ! <3

  • its not aqll about speed

  • I loved that ringtone on my old Nokia phone.

  • good playing, poor posture.

  • more musicality would be good

  • i'm 16 and learning this right now....i wish i was that talented at that age :)

  • haha dont be im learning it too at the same age

  • I just wanted to add onto that

    V

    V

They should have forced me to play the piano, when I was younger.

  • i hate this kid's guts. jk. it's only jealousy ;) he' s really good!!! as a 16 year old, i'm only slightly embarrassed to say i'm playing this too!

  • I know! My parents should have forced me as a kid!

  • But probably this kid started to learn to play piano about when he could stand... doesn't take away that he is reaally good!

  • He's really good.

I'm always iffy when I see a video with a 8 or 9 year old playing big songs. I find a lot of them play technically correct but they don't really understand the feeling the music is suppose to be giving, something that can't really be taught. But this kid was very good technically and feeling wise :)

  • its because they are asians pushed to practice at absurd lengths a week by their pushy parents

  • Go look up Jung Sung Ha...

Pushing alone can yield results... but not as much as this.

  • yeah but he does it with style, these people have no emotions

  • me and him are on da same lines! tho i'm doing my grade 8 =P he's probably finished! just 1 word of advice don't go so slow in da slow bits!

  • i wish i had a grand. I'm learning this right now and playing it on my piano doesn't do debussy justice! : (

  • but he's nine!

I want this kids talent. I just started piano lessons and I'm 14, he'll go far if he puts his mind to it.

  • i think already has, hence debussy. haha

  • agreed. I mean a 9 year old, playing debussy is A LOT OF HARD WORK and musicality :D

    nice job!

  • This kid is really good for his age!

  • Thanks. Really, you just made me feel an ounce beter about myself... and I could use all the ounces I can get. Thanks!

  • I hate this kid.

I'm learning this piece now.... and I'm 17. He was amazing at it when he was 9.

    Puts me to SHAME.

And gee, I expect to become a professional pianist....

  • No worries, I'm in the same boat. I'm 17 and just starting this piece. But don't worry about it, it's how you play it. I used to be a wreck at competitions because I was always soo old compared to everyone else, but you have to put that behind you, aim to play better than this kid!

  • @oemaleeo

Just remember that just because a little kid can play the piano which, just requires memorization and practice, does not mean he can CREATE beautiful music you see. So do not lose faith in yourself.

  • erm...i tink this boy boy hor...not enough expression on this song...still can improve...he is still a kid after all...x]

  • wow, playing debussy is so cool, but I'm just playing 2 jears piano, and am bussy with mozart, however, nice preformance

  • wow someone is definately full of themselves...

  • very nice playing. you gave me some tips on playing this piece.TY

  • i tink...play this song joyful n a bit dreamy...cos debussy's songs are quite DREAMY @@

  • nicely done! But a freer character can be more scintillating!

  • just forthe record- stfu. this kid rocks keep it up

  • Great job for a pianist that age, only I don't like his tone. Maybe I'll post my 'version' of this arabesque soon (I play it a bit like débussy did it - more freedom in tempo)

    This performance misses some dynamics...

(Just for the record he made 4 mistakes)

But offcourse, extremely well done for a 9 year old - débussy is hard to play and to understand.

  • I disagree. His dynamics are "missing" because of the way it is recorded. I think he does a good job of it, mostly. Tone is excellent, its just the recording.

There is a section in the middle that is played too slowly, with incorrect timing of some notes. Not being harsh, needs to be pointed out so he learns.

Also, its good to get into the music and enjoy what you are playing... but some of the posing is excessive. A little showmanship is good, but too much and it becomes a bit comical.

  • What is it with these Asian kids?! Unreal!

  • haha, nice. good job kid!

  • My god. Whoa.

  • I played this pieace 5 years ago , cool

  • Bravo!

  • Can't believe it's played by a 9-year old kid

  • precisely

  • Great performance! I have started learning Arabesque no. 2, and it's harder than the first arabesque. Thanks a lot for posting it.

  • GREAT JOb young man... this the fist clip i heard of second arabesque... after hearing u play it i want to learn it
