China's CRH380A train has output of 26 horsepower/passenger. The most power Japanese train in her fleet the 500 Series Shinkansen has only 18 hp/p. That's why Chinese trains are of 380km/h class, japanese are 320km/h. Actually the French TGV trains are the most powerful.

I took a 5 hour trip from Beijing to Shanghai on this train last December and it was both inexpensive and enjoyable. Therefore, as a traveller, I have absolutely nothing to complain about.

The trains in japan could go faster but they are restricted due to safety. Just like you said, trains that go fast without safety is plain stupid. The government in china is all about expanding its network as fast as possible, with safety being secondary. THe only tech that china bought from japan are the cars themselves, not the safety tech.

In other words other countries will soon be importing China's newer car tech but not its trafficking regulations.

The train it was comparing with was the SNCF Technology Demonstrator and not the Japanese bullet train. The SNCF "modified" TGV manufactured by Alsthom hold the ground speed record of 574.9 kmph.
Most high speed trains in Europe do more than 300 kmph e.g. Thalys, ICE 3, Eurostar etc.
The Chinese stuff looks like a cheap pirated copy :-)

It it like comparing a piston engine to a jet engine. Thus the SNCF record officially holds as it is the fastest thing to move on land. The MagLev technically does not "move on land". Try a search for tianamen square from china and you wont get any results. Try a search from a free country and you will. No matter how the country tries and bends the media in favor of the host country, people in free nations are given the choice of how to interpret it. In china you dont even get that option.

@JapanIncorporated Well, if we go by your logic, then the connotation of any information presented to a group of people is only subject to individual interpretation. But the fact of the matter is, bias does exist and do influence viewers, no matter in which country's media you observe. Yes, China does exercise explicit control on media such as the internet, but "free nations" also do that, albeit implicitly, through subtext. Governments influence media, and China's is just bad at it.

@redscarfwow lol noob... that was an inter-city train, not a high-speed train. i do not recall any passenger deaths resulting from high-speed train accidents in Japan, and this is after decades of operation. the Chinese high-speed rail failed on its FOURTH YEAR and they were trying to sell the technology to other countries... BTW, at least the Japanese did not hide that it was a mechanical failure

Definition of 'Train': a self-propelled, connected group of rolling stock.
The maglev isn't self-propelled as it is using energy from the track. And secondly, it doesn't roll as such as the wheels lift up. Yes, i am every so sorry for not pointing out other high speed trains in Japan. I was however explicitly talking about the maglev.

@DarthChrisB #epicfail : The maglev dosent convert any energy... The track however does (except it converts the electrical energy i--> magnetic energy --> kinetic energy. The track does all the work. The difference between the maglev and a train is that of what i have just said. To add, nearly ALL trains have cables above them and pull energy from those cables. To finish, the definition was not mine. Also a 'lorry' or 'truck' cannot possible be a train as the direction isn't limited to a track.

China copies German and Japanese technology, and just remove the safety mechanism of those trains and calls it "original" and "fastest".
Now the train falls off a bridge and injures/kills over 200 people.
China can copy but unfortunately Chinese people can never be like Germans or Japanese to operate those trains.

not 1 death on Japanese high speed train service since it started operation 40-50 years ago.
China has 200 people dead or injured already.

@Thegus0 there was ONE accident which killed 35 ppl and that was due to a lightning strike knocking out power lines not a failure with the train. unlike japanese/german trains, chinese trains have never spontaneously combusted, exploded in tunnels, derailed because the wheels fell apart, or simply tipped over because of a steep turn.

If you think lightning caused the collision you got to be joking. this is complete incompetence by the chinese and their product and operating system is shit without any safety mechanisms. trains should not crash just because of a lightning. maybe local line country side trains, but not highspeed trains which should be using the best technology and people.

China's CRH380A train has output of 26 horsepower/passenger. The most power Japanese train in her fleet the 500 Series Shinkansen has only 18 hp/p. That's why Chinese trains are of 380km/h class, japanese are 320km/h. Actually the French TGV trains are the most powerful.
