If my competitors are paying through the nose in tax and i'm producing the same quality product without paying any carbon tax, what incentive is there to make my product cheaper ? i've already reduced my costs, my profits are higher in margin compared to my competitors. There really is no incentive for me to reduce my price until my competitors react.
@Oddessuss It's actually more expensive in the short term to invest in green technology right now however if the carbon tax was implemented it would be more viable for the long term. I'd agree that to produce a product using greener energy, if it was already implemented before this tax, will be cheaper to the manufacturer, but there is no incentive to compete in price when your, more polluting, competitors will be forced to change, costing them thousands to millions.
