There's a wonderful quality of joy each time I watch your video that crosses the many thousands of kilometers from there to here in northern Virginia. I have a notebook now writing down items for my trip over there because of your videos (and others!).
Lol you always just get chicken products, and you honestly ordered french fries -,- hahahah Im just messing with yeah. If I lived in Japan tho i'd be eating all the odd seafood-stuff. I know you don't like seafood :p
Izakaya is like heaven! I always feel at home and comfortable when I eat at one. I always like to challenge new items, and so far, I have not run into an item on the menu that I do not like.
All that Japanese food and suddenly I see french fries. I thought at the end you were going to ask, which food in your video doesn't belong on the table.
Now I'm drooling again XD Sometimes I don't understand what I'll get from the menu's over here. The name won't tell me the ingredients nor the looks. So I'm guessing that's the same in Japan. So even if I could read the menu's names, I'd still not know what I've ordered. It all looks so tasty though so I'm up for surprises (as long as it's not bugs or moluscs).
Raw egg is delicious, but chicken... I like to think I'm pretty adventurous when it comes to food, but raw chicken? I mean, I'm sure it's safe, I just don't know if I could do it lol.
@TheJapanChannelDcom I know you did a video on politeness but if you could answer this question it would take a load off my mind. I'm American with a Japanese professor. He made a mistake today and I replied with "saru mo ki kara ochiru" or 猿も木から落ちる. Was this rude???
@millan32 In Japan, chickens are kept pretty well inspected as the culture has these types of raw food in it. The eggs are pasteurized and everything is kept on very strict sort of food quality and safety measure.
@millan32, with about any food product, if it is not handled correctly you can get sick. Its very possible to have chick that is completely raw if certain precautions are taken. For example I will be very picky about what kind of fish I buy in the USA because I like raw or just barely cooked. Sometimes I will not buy if the fish looks dodgy. I will also pay a bit of premium for very fresh vegetables because I want the freshness and clean vegetables as well.
@hitachi088 The salmonella can reside inside the egg aswell. But im guessing this isnt a big problem in Japan, I think they even have eggs that are meant to be eaten raw, I hope they are just about sterile inside and well cleaned on the outside.
@millan32 I think its chicken is handled differently over there, so u can eat it raw like a steak. As for eggs, i've never gotten sick from eating a raw egg before, even here in the U.S.
@millan32 The chicken's a higher grade than typical supermarket chicken, and it's sold to restaurants by specialty suppliers who take additional precautions to ensure it can be safely consumed almost raw. Besides, salmonella is only found on the surface and inside the cavity of a chicken, and it can't survive temperatures above 137°F. Even chicken sashimi is normally blanched beforehand.
@millan32 My wife cooks like that all the time for some Japanese dishes. We will do eggs but when we find a fresh chicken from an organic farm its just delightful. You get a much more creamy/tender feel from the chicken or egg. Totally recommend giving it a shot :D
It's the same with something like raw/medium steak. Chicken meat, the same as beef is much less likely to carry bacteria and microbes like pork does. Thus, it is safe to eat raw (although it has to be handled well and come from a 'clean' place).
The same goes with raw eggs. If they are fresh, it's fine most of the time.
The majority (90%+) of people do not get salmonella from eating these if the foods are handled with proper care and attention.
@k2theC2thejo correct me if I am wrong xTenshiai ,but what I think xTenshiai is reffering to is the powerful 7.4 aftershock that hit late yesterday in sendai it was later downgraded to 7.1 and yes I agree, I'am sure they are well aware of it .
I have an idea for a video! Cook up some western grilled burgers or steaks for your friends and film it ^^y, or do a interview video on Japanese perception and taste of western foods like what is your favorite western dish ( cheese burger, pizza, or even Mexican food or not at all). BTW stay safe heard there was another quake ><
@TheJapanChannelDcom Japanese food is always so tasty. But some of the foods are a bit O_O and not something that I'd eat. Most of the seafood stuff is ok, but I don't like eating raw food. It just feels too weird. But stuff like katsu items are always good. Curry rice is good too. And of course ramen. Haha! French fries? Now that seems a bit out of place on this table. =P
raw meat >.< you can get all sorts of bad stuff from it

raw egg is SUPPOSE to be alright if you eat them right after cracking the shell.
but you still got a small small chance of getting virus or bad bacteria.

@Degenskonto
yeah, i also heard about excrement on the outside of the egg and then cross-contamination...
that is why i said they still have a small possibility of getting sick.
personally, i prefer my food dead and smokey hot.
hitachi088 10 months ago
@hitachi088 Same here. Dear, firm and cooked above 70 degrees.

@millan32 There are actually salmonella shots for chickens. So I think it's pretty safe to assume they use those.
