  • Do not know if you are till monitoring this post, but I am 58 years old, 6' tall, 265lbs and losing.

Been hitting the gym every other day for three months now.

I drive 10-12 hours a day between offices and have developed an almost chronic pain (the sciatica) in my left buttock. Thank you for this direction and I will start the exercises right away.

My question is: I have to continue driving every day, will this "cure" the sciatica, or will I need to continue the therapy indefinitely?

    Thanks

  • You should try marijuana, it has anti-inflammatory effects, it may not do much, but it will relieve a lot of stress and pain and could help cope with it.

  • Chiropractors!?! Even though I was bent over with pain! which went through the flipping roof! She still did the treatment! The only good thing she did, was write a letter to my doctor! explaining,I had no reflexe responses in my right leg! Man I had pee problems! as well! 30 minutes a session! £££££££! Only more pain, with each session! 10 or more I had!! Hope physiotherapy goes well tomorrow! It can be painful!! Lol

  • 8 years ago it was really bad! I didn't know at the time my disc was coming out!! Both legs shaking!! So like an idiot!, I kept leaning forward to stop the pain! Pain just got worse. I worked with it!! Went to a chiropractor! Bad mistake! Bang crash therapy! Physiotherapy, is much better! Had my hips realigned, over 3 or 4 sessions!

  • @Ricardo20609 your disc was not coming out, its the nucleus of your disc is herniated out of the annular fibres of your disc thus compressing your sciatic nerve.

  • to say its painful is an understatement..... years ago i had it so bad i couldn't move... i was put on DF118 to relieve it.... eventually after having 3 milogrames over a few years i had opp on my back.... was ok for about 12 months the developed arthritis of the spine (AS) and restless leg syndrome over those dam milogrames... they damaged a nerve in my lower spine so a small area of my leg running down to my small toe is permanently numb... never have an opp for a slipped disc.. NEVER.

  • Lay on floor with hot water bottle, rapped in a small thin towl on my back! Lay on my front, flat to the floor! Wait 10 minutes! Then push up like a seal, with your bottom half still on the floor! Heat makes things more flexible! Push up as far as you can go! Don't push it to much! Do this 10 times! Hold each position for 30 seconds!! This strengthens your back muscles & helps with the pain! Stick with it! 3 or 4 times a day!! Yeah I know it's a bummer! I'm sticking to what I know, from past e

  • Made it bloody worse!! I have physiotherapy & acupuncture this Monday! UK! Every 4 or 5 years my back plays up!? Disc right side lower back! It slipped out about 8 years ago! 6 months off work! Then 4 years later! 5 months off work! & that was 4 years ago! & last week, it started playing up! I hate it!! Hurts to breath! I'm doing exercising every day! Thought I'd try this!!! Bummer! Just love the pain!!

  • Its people like you who keep people in pain while you try to convence them that you and your stupied method dont work. Thank god you arent a real doctor. You ever heard of pain pills? Thats the only thing that works for the pain. You arent a dame expert in this lady. Give them the dame pill and stop making the jane fonda video. She wasnt fat as i recall. Loser

  • @wasp208 you would know if it would work or not if you had sciatic nerve pain! It is sad to see commenting for nothing!

  • @wasp208 and what's your occupation?

  • It was explained to me by my orthopedic surgeon that the icing will aid in reducing the swelling in the muscles that may be contracting & swelling thus pinching the nerve. So this may be why she is suggesting ice. I was prescribed a 6 day steroid pack that reduced swelling and gave me significant pain relief after a few days. The stretches that she shows here have been suggested from everyone from my Chiropractor, my family Dr., to my surgeon. Probably a good idea.

  • @WLGMichels also for people who are diabetic it makes the condition worse.

  • This is why we have chronic pain in the US. You should never ICE a muscle like that. It contracts the muscle and causes it to be short...thus it causes you to hurt more after you're done with the ICE. ICE numbs the area...but it's back after that wears off and typically gets worse b/c you keep shortening the muscle. Also where you're putting the ice is not where the problem is. Look up Gluteus Minimus and you'll see on the Trigger Point chart what your pain looks like. Sorry but I had too say.

  • heating pad ,hot bathes and pain pills all will help time is a great healer

  • Thanks for this great video.

  • my left butt cheet hurts alot (siatic nerve)! im gonna try these stretches thanks!

  • @antonio6589 yes the pain hits there....but Don't over exercise.... if pain travels down further to your feet or toes its serious...... so be careful.... as you see from my comment i have been there....the sciatic nerve is the thickest nerve in your body... about the size of your small finger...

  • ¡¡ Qué lástima que no está en castellano !!, ¿ habrá alguna forma de hacer el doblaje ? Un saludo.

  • Efficacy of a new glia modulator palmitoylethanolamide (Normast) in Sciatic pain

  • My lower back has been aching for 4 days. Pain stems from my lower back down through both of my legs and it's damn annoying. I have had the last 2 days off work and am going back in to work today but am still in a little bit of pain.

Pop some painkillers and go earn some money otherwise i be out on the street, lol...

  • cute girl, made my pain go just watching, l5 s1 and degeneration and a bulge, can it ever get better, pain like mad 24 hours a day,?

  • My pain is in reverse. As long as I sit down or lay down, I am fine. When I stand up and walk around, after about 5 minutes my right leg begins to go numb, all the way down to my toes. Then, after more time, I have extreme pain shooting down to my knee. The pain is especially unbearable in my right knee and in my right hip. Only sitting down or laying down makes the pain stop. I have been trying to get an MRI for weeks, but my doctors are slow.

  • I just recently went to the hospital because I literally could not walk due to the excruciating pain from my side ( left) all the way Down to my foot with numbness included. I've never felt anything severe in my life. Well I made an appointment for an MRI. The hospital gave me steroids, Valium , percoset, and Motrin, do you believe I'm still in pain. I don't know what to do until the MRI. Go back to work in 2 days, be out for 5. I thought with all this time off it would have subsided by n

  • do you have anything for tarsal tunnel syndrome? no one seems to have anything for it except surgery.

  • I have a herniated disc leading to a severely pinched nerve in my left leg. I have tried alot of stretching and dont know why i didnt think to try this.... I know i speak for everyone with sciatica or disc problems when i say THANK YOU!!!

  • will these stretches and exercises help put the nerve back if pinched????

  • I going to start today ty,

    :)

  • Hang Upside down with knees over a bar.

  • One more thing I used to do is not related to the video is hand upside down with your legs over a bar upto 30 sec. This is natural traction and pulls your nerves. This traction gives immediate relief. I could walk upto 1 hour continously. Prior to that I had to sit down after every 5 minutes. Could find a parallel bars somewhere near your house. Do it 3 times a week. You need to be a little athletic or take help somebody.

  • This works. I have L4/L5 last year in Apr10. Since Nov 11, after my last attack, the doc told me to only do the above exercises. The initial one pulling the knee to the chest. i do it 40 times each leg as the number of times is linked to your age and I should be doing it that many time. It does become boring once you are healed. But i have been asked to do this for life. I feel good today. Note:- I have L4/L5. This may not work for other disc problems.

  • Can anybody respond back with positive results from doing these exercises, ive had chronic pain for 7 months now, Ive forgotten whats it like to not have pain every single day.

  • @Kike1316 - yes it does for L4/L5

  • I think I know how I got sciatica, I drive a lot and I used to carry my wallet in my right side back pocket and using the same leg for gas and brake pedals, so even if it's to late now I switched to the front pocket kind of wallet

  • Thank you I will start working on that. I was doing something similar, but still I have pain. How long do you think it will take for the pain to start going away?

  • Thank you Thank you i have been a lot of pain for a long time, and this really work

  • Vitamin D defiecieny can cause muscle & bone pain. I have Fibromyalgia & I take 50,000 IU per week ... It has literally cut my pain in half if not more. We need more Vitamin D than recommended on food labels; way more: especially if you have a chronic pain or depression/mood issue.

  • THANK YOU! I have been suffering for over two weeks with a SEVERE sciatica and I am so glad I found you! :)

  • SCIATIC IS AWFUL, I GET IT THAT BAD THAT IT GO INTO MY STOMACH TOO, JUST DREADFUL. X

  • Hopefully this will work for me have been on vicodin for 5 days

  • thanks so much for the info, not many know this type of approach to getting relief for sciatica pain. I will try this and come back to post results - hope it works!

  • How could u get sciatica I always stretched well before lifting and always have perfect form and I had it for about 1-1/2 months now I've stretched over and over trying to get my range of motion but I'm wondering how I could have gotten it in the first place if I'm really active.

  • I get periodic pain (like today) but have never tried exercises like this. Interesting the comments I read here about the vitamin deficiency cuz I haven't taken my vitamins in a few weeks and its been months since my last sciatic episode. Perhaps some truth to the link.

  • this has cured me!! thanks you love 2 all

  • this has been helping my pain thanks for the vid

  • hahaha I got mine inflamed then it got better then I screwed it up again. Thank you work it doesn't hurt that much the 2nd time around

  • 7years ago I used an electronic muscle stim. device, which I stupidly overused therefore severely injuring muscles and nerves. I suspect they could be crossed, the muscles, it hurts a lot. I've been going to doctors ever since and nothing has helped, had various exams done. I've been having big pain in my body ever since. I am wondering, what I shud do to either FIND OUT what is wrong, which examination to take OR HELP MYSELF. PLEASE HELP !
  • yea right...like u can bring ur leg up without holding it to bring it up like u r doing...just don't happen.... too painful...............

  • these are the same old boring exercises you see everywhere...rubbish. One size does not fit all. You need to find the muscle imbalances that are causing your issues. Depending on your condition these exercises could actually cause you more pain...lol

  • @Hertsman50 YEs very true I agree. Medicine nowadays is like one cure for all diseases. The stretching at the end actually made mine worse. Stretching of any kind actually makes mine worse. And a lot of chiropracters can't do a thing either. And every video on youtube is Nothing but stretching stretching and more stretching..lol.

  • @shubroto81 I will give you some free advice that may change your life forever. If you haven't already done it get your vitamin D levels checked. These chiropraters and osteopaths make lots of money out of your misery but they don't have a fucking clue about what is causing the issues. Finally I persuaded my stupid fucking doctor to run a vitamin D test. I've just been diagnosed with a chronic vitamin D deficiency. Next step go online and type in vitamin D and lower back pain, I'm on the mend.

  • @Hertsman50 Wow there are a lot of articles linking VIt D and back pain, thanks for sharing bro!!!!!! I am DEF gonna check this out (I live in New England and have other Vit D deficiency symptoms too like depression...)

    TY TY TY

  • @Jtronique your symtoms are identical to mine. Back pain, depression, also pains in my knees. You might find this hard to believe but you actually need to take 35iu of vitamin D per lb of body weight. I weigh 200lb so I'm taking 7000iu per day. I've only been doing it for a few days and already I'm starting to feel better. Vitamin D is a hormone and not a vitamin. Buy the 10000iu tablets, anything less is a waste of money.Coz your body stores D you can take vitamin D in one big dose.Good luck.

  • @Hertsman50 Do I am REALLY on right time in right place to read Your comment!!! I am trying to find help here now- my hip pain is back again (I have had very bad car accident 11 years ago). I remember Dr. Oz said Vitamin D is good for bones and I even bought bottle with 120 softgels Vitamin D3 2000 IU. And I am going to try RIGHT NOW!!! Your links was very very helpful and I'm coming back to tell You how it works for me. God, my left hip and nerve pain hurts sooooooooo much. Wish me luck :)

  • @8000DREAMS good luck my friend, I really do hope it will work for you as it has done for me.

  • also my pain goes all the way to my ankle :/

  • Thanks for all the advice. Exercise has really helped me .Im a big fan of exercising now to relieve the pain symptoms .

  • Thank you. Your advice is very helpful. I like to know if you have any more exercises besides these to completely cure this situation. Please advise. Mike

  • Hey! I will difinetly try this exercice!

Well i still dont know if the pain that I have is Sciatic or not! But anyways when i read about the defintion, it almost discribed the pain I have :(.

I would love to find anyone who had experience with this to talk to them about it. I am really afraid now! I dont want to lose my job because of it :(

  • @KhaaLiiiiiiD

    Hi KhaaliiiiiD

I have the same kind of pain as you do . It has been 4 weeks now and I still hurt. It is hard to work as I am on my feet all day. I have to sit for 10 to 15 minutes when my leg starts to pain. I hope you feel better soon.

    Ann L

My name is Warren

  • @WARRENB2006

hi Warren, i am very sorry to hear that. I see there are a lot of ppl including you and me suffering from spine related stuff. Would you be interested in joining a Yahoo group? I would see the existing ones and if they are OK, we must join one, if not, let's create our own. I am in India.

Thanks and wish you better days ahead.

  • Yes these exercises relieve the pain while you are doing them, but they come right back when you stop, I have had sciatica symptoms for 3-4 weeks now and am not improving. Will I be able to exercise sciatica away, are there drugs that can help, will it go away on its own? is it a permanent condition?

  • I bent down to pick up my bag before work the other day, Since then everytime I'm at my desk for too long or my back gets comfortable - I get a quick, sharp stabbing pain thatgoes as fast as it came on.I've tried back arches etc but it wont go. The pains havent gone down my leg yet thank god, I want to nip this in the bud before it gets any worse - Any suggestions?

  • Stretching my lower back actually makes my back pain/sciatic nerve shocks worse. All the lower back experts recommend stretching exercises that actually makes it wayy worse. Even after a set or two of toe touches I can feel my sciatic nerve and my lower back acting up.

  • @subroto81

stretching is recommended but be advised it is not for everyone. each case is unique and so is the treatment/management. you have said you get "shocks" in that nerve. I have impingement of that nerve as my L4/L5 disc is prolapsed(known as slipped disc in India). I have not come across 1 therapist who advised any sufferer of this problem to bend and touch toes. plz cease it asap, see an ortho. you might be doing more harm than any good with that toe touch. I am from India too.

  • @subroto81

you are welcome to keep me posted on what have you done and the outcome. In fact, I call upon every sufferer to feel free to post messages to me. Maybe, we can create our own Yahoo group and bring more people with pine conditions in.

Just as a reminder I have disc prolapse at L4/L5 and early Osteo Arthritic changes in cervical region at C5/C6. I take 30mg/day Codeine Phosphate and 500mg Chlorzoxazone which acts as a muscle relaxant. Physiotherapy starts tomorrow.

    Thanks

  • My left leg aches in the calf and I feel a sharp pain at the bottom of my heel.

Is this a sciatic nerve problem ?

  • @swampzoid sounds like it mate. You need cod liver oils daily and to start swimming regularly.

  • hello, if i straighten my left leg when im sitting, and i feel pain area my buttock. is it cause of this sciatic nerve? thank you, because i've suffer for this pain for about 7-8 month and it still hurt when i want to straighten my leg when i sit. sorry for my bad english. i hope someone can help me from my pain :)

  • People do not realize that the FLAT surface is foreign to the anatomy of the human body and has a long term destructive effect on health and often is the cause of severe and chronic back pain and mysterious pains. The FLAT surface causes a suspension bridge between shoulders and hip due to lack of proper balance support. KBS200 Klass Vaki was the answer for me.

When i am sitting or walking i have no discomfort at all or doing your leg stretch exersises you show on the VDO. Its only when i am standing straight not moving arouund, after a couple of minutes standing my leg from the knee going up begins to get very numb, no tingleing feeling just numb. As soon as i sit down then it goes away. Can you help? what can do.

  • I would confirm that this exercise works is one of the best to relieve sciatic pain, be it alone or associated with lower back pain. Thanks for sharing and help.

  • how do you know if its your sciatic nerve or hamstring??? it mostly hurts when i sit...

  • Very informative video. Thanks for posting. I would add "extension in lying" exercise at the very end for herniated disc/nerve impingement long-term care.

  • This video is really informative! Me and my mom have this problem and I'm telling her this. But I have a questions. I have this condition as well but my back is stiffen. Could my back stiffening up and this condition be related? It's mostly on my left leg but I feel it from the bottom of my leg all the way up my buttocks. Also when I walk around I tend to have my left left up as if I'm tip-toeing. My name is Leo, 20yrs old, and over weight.

  • @Mairsyboy that sounds exactly what I had. L3-L4 Right side, the terrible Spaz would knock me to the floor in a fetal position specially when I would get out of my truck or walking down stairs. Mine was a bulging disc. But your lucky I also had DDD in L4-L5 and L5-S1. So after laser surgery the bulg at L3-L4 is gone and the DDD in L5-S1(this one was the worst of the two DDD discs') is pain free. Still working on the L4-L5 Disc. Good luck to you, I know what your feeling.

  • As you need to sleep with a pillow between thighs at night it will help with keeping pressure off the nerve while sleeping and depending on your movement you may want to use some kind of strap around the pillow to keep it in place. on your leg.. not too tight just enough to keep pillow in place. I have found that her exercise and lowering your Ascorbic Acid and pillow placement at night has helped me for the last 5 years to keep pain down.

  • As you need to limit your intake of Ascorbic Acid and do the exercise... Ascorbic Acid as can bring on the inflammation and keep it going. My family has the same issues and have come to the exercise and to keep Ascorbic Acid down. Drink lots of water for about two weeks to flush Ascorbic Acid high ph. This will help with her exercise.

It's not bothering me all the time, but still frequently. When I try to extend my right leg I feel it. • Is there anybody who speaks english on this youtube self help cheapskate bumfuck??

  • @iconprojects

    No, dear Iconprojetcs.

There is almost nobody who speaks English on (...) Youtube, or on The Internet in general...

The Internet is the place where illiteratepeople -- who might sound dumb, then ---- can finally express themselves. Meanwhile, they spend less time watching the stupid TV or attending stupid games...

Any attempt to give an opinion --- even a slight onbe --- is better that swallowing shit passively, don't you think so ?

  • I don't know about the rest of you, but I feel better lying on the side that hurts and not the opposite.

  • I am going to try this out; I've had Sciatica for a month now. It is driving me crazy, so painful to drive and so so painful when I wake up in the morning. I hope these exercises work. Because I can't see myself having to live with this pain for years like some people have. :(

  • @joyfeline SORRY YOUR BACK HURTS.I WAS LIKE THAT ON AND OFF FOR YEARS.GOT A DISC OUT CAUSE IT HAD PUSHED OUT AND DAMAGED THE NERVE.GO TO A GOOD SPECIALIST NOW AND SAVE A LOAD OF HASSELL LATER IN LIFE.

  • how annoying is her voice!

  • Interesting that the cause of the sciatica is nerve impingement as discussed here. Yet this is an effect, not a cause...if the cause is not properly addressed this is all prophylactic

  • why do you pump into the pain? i thought you were supposed to avoid causing yourself pain during any exercising.

  • i am 16 years old and have a sl l5 herniated disk it is pinched my siatic nerve in my left leg it has healed but it still bothers me some times how can i stop this

  • Oh, man I've been having pain exactly like this for almost a month..THIS HURTS..it shoots pain from my buttocks down the left side of my leg then all the way to my calf and toes...I've been taking like 12 anti-inflammitory/pain killers a day...

  • you really helped me get rid of my problem so thank you very much . Albuquerque

  • wow, this was so helpful, im so glad you did this video!!! i have had major pain in that area and found it even more difficult when i sleep as i sleep on my side, thanks again:)

  • I have had this pinched nerve for over two years, when i was only 17 and this pain is super painful (sometimes causing me to walk like my almost 80 year-old grandma). I hope to God these exercises will relief me of all the pain.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • This is dope, I'm only 24 and I damaged my sciatic nerve (according to the Doctor at the hospital, who only looked at me for like 30 seconds) on Friday. I'd been sat cross-legged for a couple of hours playing video games. The pain started from my ass down the back of my right leg, down to the knee (no further). I've been resting up and it's gotten better, but these exercises are great. Thanks.

  • had this it sucks.

  • Sweet. I know I have this problem. It's hell. I haven't been able to sleep in, I always wake up with pinching and fire like pain on my left thigh. I hate it.

  • Thank you.

I don't know if you have ever actually had this pain but it can be extremely intense...debilitating I would say.

    You helped me.

  • I have this problem. It got worse after I was hit by a car. It only happens when I stand in place for a long time or when I am walking without something on my back. Pilates seem to help it.

  • thanks for sharing,it helps a lot to relieve the pain & tiredness.God bless you.

  • Very helpful & easy to do. I especially appreciate your calming directions. Thank you very much.

  • Has anyone had any luck with a TENS unit?

  • @debgale1 Yeah, they're great! It may depend on the reason for your sciatica though. My pain was caused by a torn piraformis muscle which swelled and clamped my sciatic nerve so the TENS really loosened up those muscles and gave me huge relief.

  • Great video - very helpful

    You look like Gillian Anderson

  • Had surgery at Laser Spine Surgery which the surgeon damage my S1 which is now running into my leg and foot. Horrible experience, I do like this PT leg work and have done this before however its only a short fix it wouldnt go away and I will have to deal with it my whole life, until Stem Cells are approved in USA>

  • @detox96 umm, stem cells are now approved in the US.

  • thank you very much , this was very helpful
