It seemed to me that the problem may have been the modern powerplant...too much power.

Does anyone know what the real story is with this replica? Was it constructed from original blueprints? Was Santos-Dumont just bloody lucky? I knew the Bis model shown had limited to no control effectiveness according to what I have read on the machine.

Dumont was the first to fly this is fact!!!

But this replica was a bad construction and every body can see whats happened!!

When Dumont flew what was in question was make something havier than air fly and he got it!!!!

I know that Santos Dumont got depressed and killed himself after seem people using his invetion (airplane) to kill each other....What a great human being!!!!

tevan-Hate to burst your bubble, but Dumont killed himself due to his failing health. What I find interesting is that the "replica" is with modern power plant and modifications to landing gear. the 14 was an aviation dead end, it had limited to no control and once the aircraft was out of ground effects it could not fly.

@tevandijk yep.. he vas on a beach in Spain i think ?;..and he saw 2 biplanes chasing and shooting in eachother then he went in his apartment and hung himself with his famous scarf =))
