Gemsbok are probably the least preyed upon antelope in Africa. I've seen lions (and atleast one leopard) take kudus, hartebeests, topis, waterbucks etc., but no gemsboks.

@SwiftyPanther Well, that is because Oryx and Gemsbok tend to favor very dry areas, even desert areas. In addition, they have small herds, unlike the other antelope you mentioned. LIons and leopards need water and need to be near it, so thats why you dont see them near gemsbok all that often

Its too bad that all the prey species of the world with awesome weapons stuck on their heads have no clue how to use them. If i was walking around with a pair of 6 foot long javelins on my head and a predator took my kid, id at least be trying to poke n stab. I notice all animals carrying wood on their head seem to think it sticks straight out, and they end up headbutting stuff. They cant recognize sharp points as helpful. Sometimes they get lucky tho, like the buffalo stabbing the lion video.

@Celly222 The gemsbok was trying to move the calf away which is why it used the horns as a spatula. It had to get the calf out of the cheetahs strangle hold first which is why it did it that way. We studied gemsbok for many years at our reserve, and they used the horns more for butting and sparing. I dont know why they dont spear as much as they should though!

@metsdudenj If anything, I believe they showed the footage of the gemsbok saving her calf in slow-motion, to show that the gemsbok are extremely skilled with how to use the horns. She could have very easily stabbed her calf in the neck, thus clarifying how skillful they are.

nice tigers. the gemsboks horns is a lethal weapon, the tigers knew it and showed their respect. When i go Zebra hunting in the Rocky Mountains i always have a piar of gemsbok horns with me to ward off an attack by Rocky Mountain tigers. They too hunt in pairs, just like the two tiger cubs in this video.
