i thought their was some hidden meaning in that line as well ..." in the down turn of the fishing industry" he looked to jesus for wisdom as well...which really isn't a bad idea I'm starting to realize there is lots of good practical wisdom in the bible and its kind of got a negative stigma to it maybe because of the media...they distort it to put it bluntly...and people have no idea because nobody reads it anymore?
yes i agree with what you're saying, I like the other themes in the song....I really liked the song too but when I thought about that line how he "drempt jesus pulled the nets in with me" I looked it up...it is after the reserection that he joins them (peter) at sea again...the first time he says that famous line follow me and I will make you fishers of men...I found that facinating and the song made me look it up...
I like the song...trying to make some sense of that line....is he dreaming he wished there was fish again?
From the surface of this verse, it seems like the Lord wants them to be successful fishermen, but is that really what Jesus wants? Let's remember what Jesus first said to them when He called them into becoming His disciples (Mark 1:17).
17 And Jesus said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men."
just a thought because I liked the other themes of the song..
@davidmc322 I believe the song is just a lament for the old fishing ways and about how the new bigger ships with sonar and modern technology are replacing what the fisherman of the older days knew. There are references to the new ways replacing the old ways but it doesn't make claim to a specific fishing ground/region.
I don't think the idea behind the song is that Jesus wants hem to be successful. The chorus makes biblical references to the Sea of Galilee, and the "walking across the water"
@davidmc322 could be a reference to Jesus directly, or just symbolism for how men feel while there are on a boat, having the ability to travel, or "walk" across the water.
Despite some religious overtones I don't believe this song is mean to be a religious vehicle, but rather a song about change which devours the old ways (not an unpopular theme in Canadian Maritime music)
@davidmc322 I can't say for sure to be honest, I love the song and I sing it, but I didn't write it so I can't stake claim to it's true meaning and intentions.
