If someone is tailgating me, I usually just let off the gas and slow down until they back off. If they don't, I tap the brakes lightly once or twice to flash the lights like "hey get off my tail"

that is very good advice, "get off my tail" dudes can't you tell that the distance that you are following me at is an unsafe one
just pick a better distance next time or don't get behind my vehicle guys!
