@thinkpad30 I've seen Chris Isaak twice, nobody can touch his performance. I've watched most of the covers on the net, and although most are good, the energy Chris brings to the stage is untouchable. He invites the crowd on stage usually near the end of his set and it turns into one big dance party orgy...
Slower tempo is nice... Chris is a local boy here but this guy is right there !!! Since the mercenary you tube has banished the original by Chris Isaak ( dont believe me ? try and find it, lol) maybe this is a 99% replacement anyway

He seems to try too hard to reach notes out of his own range to match that of Isaak. His voice could be better. This cover is an interesting listen but nothing to swoon over-but that's just my own personal taste
@bluesman7475 It isn't that hard and I believe most people in the world can get to that range he does. They just have to learn how to do it, which takes a couple minutes.
if you don't know this guy go look for Midnight Choir. They use to make amazing music. Talk to me, don't turn out the lights, mercy of maria, long hard night, sistery of mercy, violence of the world, muddy river of loneliness, Jeff Bridges and many other fantastic songs.

Great cover. Its evident that even before hearing paal flaata doing a chris isaac cover, you can hear in his style of singing with his band 'midnight choir' that he takes a big influence from the chris's style of singing.
fantastic cover, first time i heard it, i'll probably listen to it again. attempts at outdoing Chris on this song however are futile. it's a great cover but it ain't the original.
WooW..COOL voice and song...Im getting goose bumps...Im 31 yrs old and still didnt find Mr. Right and this song makes me wana fall in love although the words say the opposite!!hehe
As much as I love Chris Isaac, I have to admit Paal Flaata has better vocals (especially live). Probably the best cover I've seen so far. Chris is still great.
Best cover of this song I have heard yet. Not too far from the original, keeping the same tones and effects but definitely adding their own flare and spices to the pot. Awesome jon, and Phych101 you fag he is singing this song. To think he isnt actually singing this song should be grounds for you to be banned from the internet forever....or at least upgrade to high speed internet. You suck, this band is bad and 2nd in line to the one and only Chris Isaak himself.
This guy is definately singing this song. Some parts he sings better then Chris, but only because he has some real soul in it. If you look hard enough you'll find where Chris really got into his song and it's better then most of his performances.

No way. Nobody can out sing Chris Issac.. He can't be singing this. He would be is better but look at his lips. I think it is a fake. Mo human is that good.

I have a strat just like that. The same color and everything and the first thing that I played on it was this song just because of that cool "In a cave" sound
He's norwegian. I think this show was airing in norwegian telly some years ago. He's formerly been a lead singer in the group Midnight Choir. Would guess you can find his/their CDs by doing a search. :)
Paal has a great affinity for American music. A few years ago, some prominent American musicians joined to make a tribute album to the late, great songwriter Mickey Newbury. As the only foreign participants, Midnight Choir opens the album with their version of "American Trilogy".
There's actually a lot of "Americana"-style music coming from Norway. Some names that you might want to check out: Madrugada, Ane Brun, Christel Alsos, Magnet, Helldorado, etc.
The Norwegian name similar to the English name Paul is spelled Paal or P - a with a circle over it - l. Some spell it one way, some the other, and some even the English way.
Beautiful cover. I think the "twang" in Flaata's voice is perfect for this song. A lot of people have covered this tune lately but this is the only one I prefer to Chris Isaac's orginal.
Falsetto is the term you're looking for, though I have to agree. His voice is lovely but no one really hits that high-note the way Chris Isaak does. All the covers are nice, but...that note is key.

And even though he sings sad music he has a great taste of humor! :)
