I did not know they sold s10s with diesel in them I have a 1988 s10 with a chevy 350 v8 in it. It is a bad ass toy love that truck. gets like 5 miles to the gallon because it used to be a 2.5l 4 cylinder but we went to a 5.7l v8 and didnt change the rear end and used a 350 turbo tranny. No overdrive. We could of went to a 700r4 tranny but was scared to because the 700r4 is a junk tranny. So we went to a 350 turbo. Gets like 5miles to the gallon but will do 0 to 60 in like 4sec.

This engine is A in essence the granddaddy of the Duramax, B an engine installed from the factory in a compact truck (why would it need to be bigger), and C as American as the current Duramax.

Nice! I own an all original 84 gmc s-15 diesel with 107,000 miles. I am the second owner and love these trucks. I plan on doing a complete restore in a few years, the truck still looks great in the original shape.

@Seattlecarnut first of all the duramax is a 6.6 L diesel and it came out in 2001. This is not a duramax by any means. this motor is an idi and looks to be non turbo. The duramax is all electronicly controlled and is turboed. i do like the duramax tags on the doors tho nice little touch. I want to put a mercadies inline 5 diesel in my 93' s10 one day.
