  • the stuff he's showing us are the fundemental roots of playing that help most at blues jams, sitting in on a set without really knowing the tunes. always go back to this stuff and take a deep breath..and you'll do fine. thank you marlowdk

  • Marlowe..can you help me the mechanics of linking the notes in the bass line?

  • Thanks Marlowe...I'm going to go practice now.

  • Gotta Love that Fender Tone ..The Granddaddy of em all....I so need to add one to the collection...its on the list ..

  • DRUMS ARE MAKING ME RAGE. They are too loud, TURN UP THE BASS :D

  • You use SH77 Steve Harris signature strings?

  • damn, I wish I could be as good as you!

  • @Chiller30001993 you can be fool, a lifetime of dedication is all it takes

  • That bass is amazing mate whats the model ?

  • @Louis555hob I think it's a squier P-bass by fender

  • whats that bass mate its perfect

  • tabs mate ?

  • I am very new to playing guitar. I was wondering if it is easy to be able to play a regular guitar and a bass guitar without getting confused if you want to play either one.. Thanks!

  • @tharrington11 I think it's easier to go from guitar to bass. With guitar, you almost have to learn chords, and that helps your finger skill a lot when you play bass. Although bass also has certain techniques. I've been playing guitar for about two years now, but every time I pick up a bass, I play it with my thumb, I can't walk or slap at all.

  • love flatwounds !!!!

  • i want my bass already !!!!! im just in love with the bass ( metaforic speaking of course) but i told my uncle that i wanna play bass and he sayd hed get me one and ive been waiting for 3 months and still havent got it ...

  • Hope you're not telling Marlowe to train lol. He's an amazing bassist and teacher.

  • It may be simple, but you play it very well,

Great timing right volume perfect attack cool sound, that was a small walk on the wild side.. post more, Cheers..!

  • hi thanks so much i love its

  • hey yall take a walk on the wild side :)

  • I play 6 string guitar but have always appreciated the presence of the bass. Nice sound you have going on there!

  • its so great to hear of a guitar player who appreciates bass players....if only everyone had this view.

  • i agree. the bassist is essential for most bands...it's just really hard to find a good one

  • @DementedBoosh Oh, agree with you so much!

  • @DementedBoosh

I am a guitar player who started out on the bass in 1973. Long time, right? I have picked up the drums and keys as well as dorking around with any other musical instrument I can get my hands on but I am not nearly as proficient on any as well as the first two.

As far as appreciating bassists - I have always hated the bassist/drummer jokes and laugh at the assholes that tell them. I always tell them it might be funny now but when they really need one or the other...good luck.

  • nice playing. way to go on varying your bass lines. keep your posts coming!

  • How do you think it feels? (intro of course =p)

  • Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side!

  • anyone know from where does he get those drums base rythms so that he can jam on top of those.

  • hammerhead

  • dude, i got a lot from you, these awesome lessons impress me much, cant wait to see u come to indonesia.. iwan

  • thanks marlowedk for all the free lessons you are smooth i do belive you were born to play bass funk on bro

  • The beginning reminds me of Tribe Called Quest - Can I Kick It.

  • Which is sampled from The Velvet Underground - Walk On The Wild Side

  • what kind of strings are these and gauge if you don't mind me asking.

  • they're D'Addario flatwound ones, you can tell by the blue colored string ends :p

  • Dud, do you think ill get the same tone if i use medium light gauge?

  • Lou Reed 'take a walk on the wild side'

  • very nice. Its simple and slow, but sounds great.

  • what is the exact definetion of triad?thnx

  • Root, third and fifth.

  • only this ?

can you do 3;5;7 or 1;5;6 ?and call it a triad ?

it s like an arpeggio ...but with 3 notes

  • 3,5,M7 would form a minor triad of course. 3,5,m7 would form a diminished chord, and technically not form a triad.

  • what do you call a diminished triad then ?

  • I am of the traditional school of thought that a perfect fifth is required to form a triad (the late 19th century is newfangled harmony to me).

  • root + minor third + diminished fifth (sorry If I made an english mistake, Im french)

  • hey are those steve harris signatures?

  • No! 50 - 105 D'Addario Chromes.

  • I've been a subscriber for a long time but I'm just curious man..do you play professionaly for a living? I'd hate to think all these clips are filmed in mom's attic lol. Oh, btw my sister wants to have your baby.....

  • to lucifer73:

I play for real, but only parttime, it used to be my main income but nowadays i do other stuff too

  • to lucifer73:

You sister, ayy?. This site's not bad after all :-D

  • thats like "Walk on the wildside"

  • to behncked:

    You win! ;-)

  • 1. Thanks

    2. You have a good point, I should've just experimented till I found it, and even if I didn't, I could've found something else I like.

    3. Thanks again.

  • I'm sure someone has asked this, but on the stops at the beginning, what intervals are you playing? It looks like you're play double stops on the E and G, but I can't tell what interval it is.

    Thanks.

  • to fhqwgads5000:

Use your ears, listen and try yourself, until you get it right! On the bandstand there's no one to help you place your fingers;-)

That said - Im playing a 10'th interval (root + major third an octave up), G on the E str with 1'st finger and B on the G str with my pinky. Same formula for the next chords, you just move your hand

  • I have learned more from you than any other. keep em coming and I will get better and better-Im excited again-thanks!

  • Marlowe...what the possibility of you posting your settings for this and your other videos on the Hammerhead Rhythm Station? I seem to be having a bit of difficulty with it!

  • Im using a sampled loop on this one, not HH.

But send me a message with your email adress and I'll send you my HH 4 patterns

  • great video! keep`em coming..

  • hello there, im wondering, you have mentioned before your action is low. Marcus miller has it low enough so that it buzzes very little to get a bit of grit on the first fret, do any of your strings buzz at any fret on your marcus miller base?

  • yeah, to much in fact, in need to get it adjusted properly

  • I'm sure that if you try the light gauge d'addario chromes you will definitely like 'em ...which means ouch! spending another 40 euro or so, I dunno how much they are in Denmark, but they are really good, me think. Besides that, the neck won't probably need any adjustment as I have the impression the flats light gauge do have similar tension as rounds medium gauge

  • I like the fat sound

  • fair enough, but with flats the sound is fatter anyway, isn't it

  • Yeah, but i dont know if the lighter strings you propose will take it away. Bass strings are too expensive to just buy all kinds, and this flatwound thing is for one special project

  • yes I agree: much too expensive ! but c'mon, you should try the light gauge that actually do approximatively correspond to medium rounds in terms of flexibility feeling. Otherwise if you like nice clean roundwound tone, try the round-cores from status-graphite dot com: they really do sound awesome and they're not too dear. Their flatwounds are sounding darker than the Chromes, and they do not have light gauge, so I prefer the Chromes light

  • You must watch "richard bona grovin`" its amazing...

  • what can I say ...awesome again ! What brand are the flatwounds ? Could you please post a nice slapping tune with these flats on and the tone pot all the way open ? Oh c'mon pleeease !!!!! PLEEEEASE !!!!!!

  • Its D'Addario Chromes Xl Medium gauge. Medium my Butt!, G string .050 and D string .070. Yeah I ought to do a slapping video with that, sounding like Pops Popwell of the Crusaders

  • haha... I generally use d'addario chromes lights 0.040 0.060 0.080 0.100, and I find them perfect allrounders. It astonished me how good they sound for slap stuff, perhaps because they still are quite "elastic"... your mediums' tone does have authority, but perhaps they will sound a bit too hard / rigid for slap ?

  • another beauty marlowe. i noticed you slicde you hand up and down the next in between notes. is this a timing thing or do you jsut do it out of habit?

  • Ha ha, never noticed that before you said so, it's habit I think

  • marlowe your the f*^$in man.

  • I REALLY need to learn more theory :(

  • very nice! and faithful to the scale

  • Sweet :D

I see that you have some nice sun in denmark? Here in sweden we had like 2 day of 27 celcius but now its rain again...

  • We had a week of sun just now :-D

  • GRR!

  • awsome exercise man and love the tone!
