i had this song on my wedding day and it has always had a big place in my heart 30 years latera lovely family and gorgeous granchildren and two very special sons and my husband my best friend.
Julie used to pass our home in Kingsbury NW9 on her way home from work in 63ish. I have her autograph from then and have since had emails from her remembering our family ;0) genuinely lovely lady. ;0) xx
Original name was "La Novia" (The Bride)... Written by Joaquin Prieto and sung by his brother Antonio Prieto in 1959, I used to listen to it several times a day, since my mother would go over the radio dial again and again to find it in the different stations.
A Truly Lovely girl in every respect who never recieved the recognition all those years ago she deserved .Saw her inconcert in Margate in 1976 obviously she sang this, with about three encores, unbelievable. So pretty, still is.Modern day female singers who try so very hard to make themselves look and sound so awful study this and learn....................
i don't sing so why should i make a video of me singing? utube is a free space so anybody who sing is free to put his/her clip , but everybody else are also free to post their opinion , positive or not by the way did i say i don't like julie rogers?
she's not my kind of music , she's too traditional-melodic ( julie remind me the iatlian singers of the 50's wich i don't like) but technically she's a good singer. but i like male crooners like scott walker ,gene pitney etc
The song was never my cup of tea , but I can appreciate its appeal ..... but what I never fully realised was just how good Ms.Rogers' voice was! Not a vocoder, computer programme or rigged mic in sight! Listen and learn any current female so called popstar (or worse still , music star!)
Oh, my love, my love, This can really be? That some day you'll walk, Down the aisle with me. Let it be, make it be, That I'm the one for you. I'd be yours, all yours, Now and forever. I see us now, your hand in my hand. This is the hour, this is the moment. And I can hear sweet voices singing, "Avé Maria, avé Maria, avé Maria."
I love her voice! though my genre song fav is punk and rock, I REALLY REALLY LOVES THIS SONG! maybe because I always hear this song since I was kid. yeah..my mom is a fan of her
In July 1972 I heard this played by a piano, accordion, bass and drum band at the Zhivago (yes, it's true!) Room in Edindurgh, Scotland. Scenes from the film were painted on the walls.
There are those who maintain a dissenting opinion and who infer that it is difficult to get past the decidedly partisan reference to Ave Maria in this song. Nonetheless, it is a well executed song that serves Julie Rogers' legacy well.
Remember wanting this played when I walked down the aisle 40 years ago instead of the wedding march, but the Rev. would not allow it - miserable old sod.
One of the very best songs in British pop history! As a young man in the early sixties, you had to quite brave to admit you liked this. I was that brave young man!!
Wether this was sung live or not makes no difference, it is a beautifully controlled performance from one of the finest singers ever, even taking into account the 'hip' backing band
love the hair.. though I like 60-ies song seems to be a bit boring

You by my side, that's how I see us.
I close my eyes, and I can see us.
We're on our way to say, "I Do-oo."
My secret dreams have all come true-oo.
I see the church, I see the people,
Your folks and mine happy and smiling.
And I can hear sweet voices singing,
"Avé Maria."
