The funny thing is that Ngeny, who was the pacemaker, would end up challenging El Guerrouj for the mile world record in '99... Which El Guerrouj also set...
1.Hicham El Guerrouj of Morocco. 2.Laban Rotich of Kenya. 3.John Kibowen of Kenya.
This was an outstanding performance! Hicham got his second victory and got the world record for 1500 meters. He seemed supremely relaxed and got to stride out clear in the last lap, passing Noah Ngeny of Kenya. Yes, and he's one of the greatest middle distance runners of all time.
He was a great runner. True middle distance of 1500m. An amazing run, he was brilliant at tactics and also physically supreme. Sitting in 3rd, using the other guy's rabbit! Then using said other guy as his own rabbit!! Priceless.
@siepista19 ha haha that makes me laughin !! he's not marion jones friend !! so do not bullshit please all !! he is Hisham elguarouj !!! :D do not scary the story of that race begins with Mohamed gamoudi so it's normal !!
@siepista19 No, he a true champion. Evidence of doping is usually just a crazy surge right at the end, not for the last 300m. His cardiovascular endurance was just immense. Coupled with great intelligence, it made him a force to be reckoned with. Was smart to retire after his 2004 Olympic gold, meaning he is remembered as the champ. To think that he won the 5k as well.
Absolutely amazing... but why the hell did the producer decide to fill the screen with Steve Cram commentating as El Guerrouj was coming down the home straight?
@manonthemount El Guerrouj was running times consistent with the pre-Epo testing (2000) as post-Epo. I don't think they would name him an IOC member and Athlete of the Year for 3 consecutive years (still unprecendented) if he tested positive... and given all the wins in championships and normal races, I'd bet he would be tested first...
This race is scary, what's scary about is how fucking fast El Guerrouj is going. He closes in 52.xx off off of a ridiculously fast pace and becomes the first runner in history to run under 55 seconds per lap.
No, deep down we know that you are intensely jealous. You may have even been an athlete yourself at one point, but were probably caught cheating like your dishonest brethren. You have never been as good as El Guerrouj, so you take out your frustrations by these asinine accusations. If you had half a brain, you wouldn't put your BS on a youtube page, man up and send a letter to the IAAF with proof of your absurd, idiotic claims.
