I crawfish hunt and i bait my traps with raw bacon, hotdogs, and chicken livers and they love it so any of those would be an excellent meal for ur little guy or u could just cook him up and eat him insted
Next time you might want to use tongs with rubber pads or something so he doesnt slip as much and you dont have to squeeze as hard. As for keeping it as a pet, though, while I can see the appeal, i'd sooner have a lobster. no worms for me, thank you.
no its just him no other fish or crawfish i feed him shrimp pellets but they dissolve in the water so i dont know if he is eating.... he isnt even "pooping" no joke i held him from the shell and put on my hand he didnt do anything he didnt cut my finger nothing.
@darklord1928 Send it to my other username if you can it's "dkittv", I'll see it sooner there. Try algae thins... I would imagine he is eating, they tend to be slightly nocturnal so he;s probably scavenging at night... is he walking about at all and/or moving his feelers up and down? And when you hold him are his little feelers in his mouth going fast? Hopefully I can see in the video if you send it and maybe give you advice (Though, I'm not an animal expert - I may be able to help still)
my crawfish is scared of everything...-.- wont even defend its self btw thanks spikevicious for helping me on what it should eat but any ideas of why itwont defend itsself? cause it stopped defending itself and i dont know what to do..=(
@darklord1928 I've never heard of this happening... is he still eating? And what is he not defending himself against? Do you have an aggressive fish in there that's trying to get at him? If so I'd consider setting up a separate tank for one of them. If he's just not defending himself and isn't in any danger and is eating Okay I wouldn't get too worried though.
@spikevicious ill send u a vid of what he does when i hold him and stuff and
no its just him no other fish or crawfish i feed him shrimp pellets but they dissolve in the water so i dont know if he is eating.... he isnt even "pooping" no joke i held him from the shell and put on my hand he didnt do anything he didnt cut my finger nothing. and he isnt shedding
man what the hell is up with the tongs?!?!? LMAO just grab that suckas back and start scrubbin!! you're gonna wind up cracking his shell with those things.
@darklord1928 Hmm. That position usually means they're on the defensive. Try buying something big and cave like for him to sit in so he can feel protected. Crawfish can eat a variety of things, so depending on what your feeding him...
Algae Thins, Shrimp Pellets, Veggie Rounds... anything like that for bottom feeder fish
But they also do enjoy live food sometimes, buying maybe 2 or 3 small feeder fish to put in the tank with him might be an idea.
theres a special way of holding them theres this guy i saw who dose some tunneling crayfish catching and he holds them between his ring finger and his index finger and rests his middle finger on their backs for cleaning just move your middle finger over your index finger and brush the worms off its back
hey dude, i ve caught lots of crawfish n i put them in my tank... i juss wanna know wat do u feed urs??? sumetimes mine eats gold fish, flake foods. wats best for them to eat???
Same really... we kept feeder fish in with him all the time but put Algae Thins in there too. We had snails with him too but he didn't seem to want to eat them so much...
take 1 Green Bean (or half of one depending on length) and put it down into the Sand/Kebble so it won't go anywhere.. Mine loves that stuff, maby yours will 2.
@redstarmode i feed mines the 10-12 cent feeders from the aquarium. make sure you only give 1 at a time or else it will just kill it and leave it there to rot and you'll have a dirty smelly tank. Also make sure you have a platform where they can craw out of the water. They can actually drown in the water some times.
that was awesome! the poor little guy is really so lucky to be a cared for pet and not a snack but as usual has no idea of it lol. My pet one died a while ago and I'm getting a new one soon. Thanks for the video
I have a crawfish that I got out of my ditch that has eggs on it. What stuff do I need for my tank. Do I need a bubbler for it? I used mud for the bottom but I am probably going to take it out and put in some small pebbles. Do I need lights also for the tank?
Lights would be good for during the day but not necessary... Crawfish are okay in unheated water (as long as it's not going to get close to freezing in the tank). A bubbler isn't necessary either though it may help you not need to change out the water quite so often and is definitely better than a full-on filter because Crawfish tend to prefer fairly still water which a filter would disrupt... sorry it took a while to reply to this comment!
Mah, you got to put dat crawfish in some salt water befo u boil it. Cleanin every one like dat is goin take long time yeah! You never goin get all a dem cooked in time for ya company!
no. either is correct... both are words, check a spell checker or dictionary and don't just randomly decide you must be right because of the way you think something is...
I think it's regional... why someone would get sooooo upset over someone saying it one way or another is beyond me, but you are correct crawfish and crayfish are both correct.
now to come to think of it i have very often scene little brown ish green worm things on the crawfish in just about every lake or creek i have looked in
(I'm spikevicious, diff. account) It is, I try to stress in other comments, messages and the video description that we only did this because he was getting lethargic and sickly from the worms and MORE stressed with us NOT taking care of the worms, otherwise we would have left him because we know these worms are present in most, if not all, crawfish to some degree...
They all have the worms to some degree or another... don't worry too much, and only try to clean them if they seem to be bothering him because really, they do them little to no physical harm... we only cleaned him because he seemed to be bothered by them
We have some feeder fish in with ours for when he gets very hungry, but he also eats Algae thins, if you don't want to feed him live things...
I think he was under 5 bucks, but I can't be sure of a specific price...

Just grab it behind it's arms with your thumb and forefinger. If that's your "pet" you're risking hurting it with those damned tongs.
Been catching those critters since I was a kid and I've never been pinched.
