  • I also do that to my 9 inch Dovii, but I have to be quick because he will after short period (2-10 secs) turn around with great speed and bite me, and his bit is REALLY painful (i bleed 10 minutes after bite) lol.

  • @CichliDaqi If he bites you it sounds like he doesn't want to be touched. Worf had plenty of opportunity to bite if he had wanted to, he didn't want to bite us. In fact, I used to hand feed him snails which are pretty small. (1/8 to 1/4 inch) He'd come up out of the water and take a snail from between my forefinger and thumb very carefully and not bite my fingers.

  • I went to a Cenote in Mexico last month and there was a fish in it that didn't mind people at all. I found it off in a secluded area and swam near it and noticed it didn't swim away. You could literally pet it and it wouldn't care O_O

All the other fish were normal.

  • @surfnsantacruz What kind of fish? Please define normal!

  • @TiedyemansVideos

I'm not sure what type of fish it was (I don't know much about fish)

By "the other fisher were normal" I mean that they had a more standard reaction to people (they would swim away if you got close)

  • @surfnsantacruz I also encountered a "wild" rainbow trout in a river in the high sierra that was very interested in checking me out. So much that I was able to not only pet him but catch him with my bare hands. I could have eaten him but it would have been like eating a friend. I was also not sure about the legal issues. Is it fishing if the fish lets you catch him with your bare hands? I didn't have a fishing license so I let him go.

  • its not best to do that all the time it can take their protective slime coat off

  • @dmitch1337 We do know that. However we wanted to experience Worf's personality. And he clearly wanted to be touched. He loved interacting with us. Worf is no longer with us, and we miss him.

  • cool fish.... didn't think it was possible for fish to have a personality/want attention...

  • That's a big oscar there. So far, I've only seen small, pint sized oscars on sale at pet stores. XD

  • @OldSkoolgamerz thats how stores screw people over, people dont realize how big these guys get

  • @spinaltap211 Is THAT how they do it? All these years I figured it was the high prices! So they sell you fish that get too big, well that will teach us dumb consumers a lesson.

  • if yu fish trey tobite u thats a good thing means there agressive and healthy my fish will kinda swim away sure enough itll eveetualy retaliate

  • That poor fish needs a WAY bigger tank, and something in it, if it wants to hide for a while or something. The way it's kept atm just isn't right. Not even close.

I wonder why some have trouble with Oscars biting them. I had five, and they loved to brush against my hand, hen i wa fiddling with something in their tank. They where nice pets, and i miss them.

  • Worf is now in a 125 gallon tank. He doesn't like to hide, he likes to swim up to the top front corner and glare at you like he wants to bite your face off through the glass. What he really wants is to be petted when he does this, he's a funny fish with a ton of personality, he's about 4 years old now.

  • I've seen several vids of Worf, but hadn't discovered that this was one of them. I have seen his 125G tank, and that a lot better for an Oscar.

I do still feel the fish should have the choice to hide, if they should feel like it. But other than that, i can't say much. From what i've seen, you take pretty good care of your fish:-)

  • I think so....wait a minute lemme count my fingers...yup I still have all six of them!

  • uahuahuahauhauahuahauha very funny....

  • Six fingers? XD

  • @TiedyemansVideos you have six fingers SWEET!!

  • @TiedyemansVideos WTF? YOU HAVE SIX FINGERS WTF? O_o

  • lol, pet fish? my oscars name is oscar, i was going for roger but it didnt fit

  • dude i cant pet my oscar anyday. i just can't pet my red tail catfish. i tap with my finger, and it rushes to the other side of the tank and slams into the wall and knocks all the plants out of the gravel

  • hey man lovely oscar hes a realy good fish check out mine

  • i carnt touch my oscars they just bite me

  • I hope my Oscars turn out like yours you can check my vid if you like. Cheers

  • lol funny look at the fishes eyes lol

  • So strange! My tang started coming up to me and rubbing on me while I clean his tank. I doubt it is good for him but I have to clean... Good luck with the new setup!

  • hey how big is worf's tank??? very friendly!

  • Worf's tank is 30 gallons. He's been in it since he was goldfish sized. We just got a 125 gallon tank for him and our other oscar Ozzy. (I sure hope they can get along) We need to build a stand for the tank, when that's done we'll be sure to have new videos posted. Worf is hilarious, he acts all big and bad like he'd bite your hand off, but all he really wants is attention.

  • its a slim coat, fish produce it naturally but when stressed or just being introduced to a tank you can buy it at almost any petstore

  • thank you for the info.i am getting a baby gold fish.have you heard of anything called a slime layer? If you have can you tell me where i might get some?

  • Fish produce a layer of slime or "slime coat" naturally to protect themselves. To enhance this ability there's a product called Stress Coat that we use for our fish.

  • i'm getting a pet fish,it is going to be around a gold fishes size.can i pet it?

  • It's up to the fish really. Some fish like it and some don't. I'd wait until the fish is a little bigger before trying. If it's goldfish size, your hand might seem huge and terrifying to the fish. I think Worf was at least 3 to 4 inches long before we started petting him.

  • hey man how can you start peting you oscar? and do they have to be kinda..like adult oscars cause mine is like 5 6 in how can I start peting him??

  • The first thing is that fish has to be willing to be petted. If the fish doesn't shy away from you you can get it used to you by touching it gently on the forehead. If your oscar eats pellets or sticks try petting him just before you feed him. The fish will associate the petting with the food and eventually will become more used to you petting it. However if the fish doesn't want to be petted, it might even attack you. We have another oscar and I wouldn't DARE stick my hand is his tank!

  • do oscars need heaters?

  • Yes, oscars are originally a South American species. We keep our oscar tanks at about 84 F. Get a "stealth" heater with a metal casing (like the one visible in this video) instead of a glass one as oscars frequently attack the heater and other objects in the tank. Once we had live plants in with this ocsar but he tore them to shreds.

  • aww. cute.

  • Go pet your fish.
