@MrBearRoars I've been told (and shown) that normal behavior of the SNES is for it to freeze and blank screen right after that dialog, the crashes you see here are a result of emulation freaking out over what the anti-piracy code is trying to execute.

@ELKUDANOVA El candado se activa cuando usas un cartucho pirata, un cartucho original con el Game Genie puesto ó hackeas el rom con codigos de trampa ó Cheat Codes. Esto jamas te pasara si usas el rom del juego ó el cartucho original...

Pasara eso si le pones un Cheat Code ó simplemente intentas reproducir el cartucho con el Game Genie

@bacovia2004 Probably one of the programmers at HAL, although, the checksum fail code doesn't act as spooky on a real SNES or more accurate emulator, than it does on emulators like ZSNES and Snes9x. (ZSNES was used in the making of this video and it's "sequel")

The point of this video is to document what happens when a checksum is invalid that was placed to curb piracy of this game, it's also poking fun at how god awful some emulators handle the resultant crash.. I have a Game Genie code in place that makes the checksum BEYOND invalid, thus why it's crashing..

More of an anti-cheating measure and not an anti-piracy measure. That only happens if you try to use cheat codes within the game (not cheat devices). Only certain cheat codes cause the game to be deleted, others just stop the game from saving any further progress until you reset, and ones you're actually given in the game don't affect it at all.

It goes something like this "This copy of Earthbound will no longer function." and that's it.. Mostly happens during either boot-up, or in key locations in-game... The hack from Demiforce removes the protection however.
