  • Nice One!

  • You are very good!

I hope one day to play the dulcimer as well as you do.

How old are you by the way, and how did you get as good as you are?

  • Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! I am 14 years old, and I'd probably say the thing that helped my playing the most would be listening to a lot of music, and watching it and playing it when I can.

  • Great job. Was so glad to hear this song again as it is one of my favorites that Neal has written. He is a very talented song writer and surrounds his self with great musicians at Gourd Music. You did a great job. Linda Brockinton

  • Thanks! Yea Neal Hellman is a great song writer! Glad you liked it!

  • This is truly beautiful. Did you write it? tear jerking

  • I didn't write this one, but I love playing it.

The guy who wrote it is Neal Hellman, He is a excellent song writer, and performer that does tons of songs like in this style.

    Thanks for commenting!

  • did you get the tabs anywhere, or figure it out by ear?

  • I was at a dulcimer festival out in California, and Neal Hellman taught it in a class, but on his website he has some tab for it somewhere.

  • AWSOME COUSIN ONCE AGIN ADD MORE

  • heh, Thanks!

  • Ah, you're becoming quite the thumb player - very nice - is this your arrangement? Sweet playing (nice noir feel to the video too.)

  • Yup, I am starting to use my thumb a bit more and more. Its kinda my arrangement, but I mainly just repeated the songs in different ways added a small part to the beginning middle and end, and then added a few chords and triplets.

This is one of the fewer songs where I mainly just stayed with Neal Hellmans version, because I have really liked the way he made it and have not found very many ways to change it.

  • Very nice! I love your playing!

(I do some dulcimer metal, but am ashamed that I do that with a dulcimer.)

  • Thanks, I am very happy to see people enjoying my videos.

I haven't been able to figure out how to do metal on dulcimer, Wellyn is about the most rock that I have been able to do on dulcimer so far.

  • It takes an electric pickup and a distortion effect pedal cranked up high to do crazy metal. It's very frowned-upon by traditionalists. LOL

  • Heh, I have to do some of that stuff time on garage band if I ever have the time.

  • MDM,

I'm sure someone has mentioned it already, but I'll mention it anyway. You need to compete. I think you have the potential to become a champion. :) :)

    Great Job

    Jack

  • Thanks, sometime I am hoping to be able to make it to one of the dulcimer contests. Thank you, your comment has really encouraged me.

  • Dulcimer "metal" somehow sounds sacrilegious.

    Butttttttt good video. ;-)

  • Heh, I will try to do something a bit harder next time. Though I cannot recall ever hearing of dulcimer metal.

  • You should play something hardc0re sometime and I'll make a music video for it
