This movie was my 1st, since I immigrated in 69'. I watched it in a theater on 42nd street, NYC. Ironically, after that scene with Jon, in a movie theater right there on 42nd street, I began to watch around paranoiac, feeling a bit uneasy as well, lol. I was 19.
Yes, this is a great American picture but John Schlesinger, the director, and John Barry, who composed the harmonica piece, were both English. Sometimes it takes an outsider to convey what a place is really like.
Does anyone know where I can download THIS version of the song? I like this one so much more. I have THIS one as my myspace song, but I can't find it anywhere on limewire...
I can relate to czexmate...i too had to sneak into see it and glad i was that i did...one of the best of my generations movies...if you don't cry at the end...you are dead inside
Does anyone notice that this song is "lighter" in the movie comparared to when they play this on the radio? I wonder why they did 2 versions of the song?
thanks for the video.haunting music.when i was 14 in 1969.we had to sneak into the theater because at the time the movie was rated "x".lets just say say it was not exactly what my 3 friends and i had expected.!i still enjoy the movie and the music still is great.

@fordamain You don't want to hear the cars honking!?
Those of us who grew up with this film in our collective psyche feel the horns are part of the beauty of this song.
