  • its not enough to understand it, the hard part is overcoming it

  • the voices are constantly with me..

  • Excess weight is a symptom of the negative self talk and fear.

  • respect :)

  • @seabebz aw thanks :)

  • Women (and some men) will always be at war with processed foods. they are made for profit. we can have peace with healthy organic and raw foods. they love us back and make us look and feel wonderful. make a good relationship with them as they will help break the cycle. We dont' need to deny ourselves anything fresh and nutritious so why would we end up bingeing on it?

  • you just explained me exactly

  • @LosingTheLard Isn't it comforting to know that you are completely NORMAL! And hopefully my newer vids will help you feel inspired that there are step by step skills you can implement that will free your life of this nutty food stuff once and for all!!!!! cheers! (cute screen name :) !! )

  • .....HOW ARE YOU IN MY HEAD. Awesome video thanks.

  • @nethackspimp oh its a iphone app I have...:) SO glad you enjoyed this!!!

  • you are awesome.

  • I like your real personality, look forward to more videos:)

  • this is so true! like when you restrict then you have a tiny bit, you think what the hell and just EAT!

thank you for talking about this. its been bothering me for years. and having you say it out loud like that, well, i just understand whats really going on when i eat alot more. thank you :)

  • @Kissiq1618 right??!!!

  • @Kissiq1618 Ha! I can guarantee you that you are *not* the only one...I've actually had people write that to me...hey better to binge to something uplifting and offering skills to release the binge than to binge listening to the 'mean girl' in your head...right :) !!!

  • Okay. So you made me cry. Which in this instance is not a bad thing. You just clarified something inside myself and I have been punishing myself for for the wrong reasons. I can't express to you how you just spoke to me and I will subscribe and love you for the person and inspiration that you are to myself and I;m sure so many others. Goodnight and a million times thank you.

  • @stormiegrl12005 Wow, I am elated that this video spoke to you! I'm excited for you to play around with not punishing yourself...ah! It makes such a beautiful difference!!!

  • What are some coping skills you use when you feel anxious? This is my problem too.

  • omg its is scary how much this sounds like me

you are incredible! thank you so much!

  • well said

  • YOU. ARE. AMAZING.

  • thank you...........

  • I like the not beating yourself up concept, and how it creates a safety inside yourself..

  • Great video, thank you for sharing this with us! <3

  • you are really clever!!!thanks for sharing ...you're really cute

  • Verbal baseball bat. Best analogy! =) Very informative and well-spoken. Thanks for the upload.

  • very helpful to me

  • Thank you so much for your vids! I just searched "emotionally eating" on youtube when I've been depressed about it for a week, and now I have seen all your videos and feel so inspired. Thank you! Whenever I feel upset, I will come to your videos for support. :D

  • wow! you are one smart human being! see ive always been to counsellors to talk about my weight and if they told what you're trying to explain here i feel like everything would have been solved A LONG TIME AGO! seriously i go there and then say so why do you think you eat its like ummm im hiring you how would i know? lol you have great insight into things and i love your explination of things

  • @roxygirl124 Oh I am SO SO SO glad....yes I have had that same frustrating (and not to mention expensive) experiences with counsellors!!!

  • as im watching this im eating 2 large slices of chocolate cake

    i feel so bad

  • @stereospotlight Ha!!! Enjoy the cake and hopefully something will be inspiring here my friend!!!

  • @stereospotlight AHAHAHA! That sounds like something I would do...and have done. Now I want some chocolate cake too!!!

  • loved your video

that's me ..I have been struggling with 10 lb for 6 month

i have been dieting for at least 10 yrs on and off and i went through that triangle zillion times .. your video is an eye openner for me

    thank you so much :-)

  • I bury my feelings so much, that is why I overeat. I do what you describe which is go on very restrictive diets and then when I feel that they are not improving my life in the way that I want them to, I binge like there is no tomorrow. I've started taking diet pills to block my cravings because I'm so scared of being out of control with junk food

  • The reason we overeat even though we are full. Is the high fructose corn syrup in the foods. The food companies put this chemical in the foods, and it tells the brain to keep eating even though we are full. Eat foods that have been around in Genesis!

    Thanks Jerome

  • Food is the drug that's socially acceptable to be addicted to. People can hassle you about smoking or drinking, etc. But it's still considered taboo/harsh to tell a friend to put down their sundae. But unhealthy food addiction can shorten your life and make your quality of life suffer. But it's become our acceptable release/addiction. I believe you have to change your whole outlook on food (food is primarily fuel for your body!) to be at a healthy weight and stay there.

  • when I gave up the wheat it really helped, and I have good balenced nutrition. geneen roth books helped, but I also was not really digesting well.

  • you are actually perfect. all of this advice is spot on! thank youuuu thank you thank you :):) i've come back to this video several times.

  • I live the way you make everything sound so clear!

  • I live the way you make everything sound so clear!

  • very true, makes a lot of sense i thank you for making this video

  • I love the way you incorporate research in all you videos!!! You are great in explaining the obvious that we sometimes do not take the time to reflect on! Keep up the good work you discussions are very motivating:)

  • What a great video. Its just what i needed today. So nice to hear its okay to have these feelings about food and even nicer to hear i can change my unhealthy relationship with food into a healthy one.

  • Jesus fasted for 40 days and THEN he became hungry (In Matthew 3) !! That is what I want - no food for 40 days then become hungry!! As you study the passage more you see He was led by the Spirit! This is key in truly getting to the core of Emotional Eating, I believe and I have found this true in my life!! Matthew 4 says those that hunger and thirst after righteousness will be filled/ truly satisfied! I speak from experience! The Word of God is Soul Food For sure!!!

  • so yeah... do you have a book out or something? Cause you really should. I'm making this one of my favorites and I will probably need to watch it everyday! Thank you. :o)

  • When Im stressed I cant even stop thinking about food. I just eat and eat and eat and stuff myself until Im so full and then stuff myself somemore until I feel better. And after that I hate myself.

  • @hematitecrow Tell me about it.... ._.

  • This is such great advice, thank you.

  • @ctrlplusz Oh I am so glad you found it useful!

  • "Food will be my nice mommy."

    How honest.

    Sounds familiar.

    <3

  • @ShutterBugLovie ....I know right!!!

  • Man its like your in my freaking head. Im actually crying right now. I always thought I was alone in feeling this way and its so emotionally shocking to me that I am not alone in feeling this way. Thank you.

  • @Arroyo2099 Oh that must have been so painful to think you were the 'only one' who went through all this junk...so glad you now know you are not the only one feeling that way!!!! This really is something that can be a distant memory my friend!!!

  • You've just described me perfectly ;)

  • Thank you! This is sooo true. I'm like... ooo I'll just eat half of this then the whole thing then "what the hell!!" And I eat it all, then I'll be all depressed about it. I can completely relate. UGH! Haha Thank you for your videos! :)

  • I think we equate food as a reward..

  • I have the same freak in my head. It makes me feel so much better about myself hearing that I am not the only person feeling like this and having these thoughts. You are great Thanks so much

  • @himbeeraquarium Ha! I think we all have those freaks camping out! Thanks for your kind words I am so glad you found this helpful!!!

  • I love your video..and your place is absolutely scrumptious!!

  • nice room;]

  • I dont know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but listening to you makes me want to order a XL papajohns pizza with all of the toppings and eat the whole thing :( Is that bad?

  • You're super cute :-)

  • What are your non-food coping skills? I haven't figured out how to develop healthy coping habits. Sometimes I am able to push through a tough emotion without food, but eventually after too many times of doing that, I give in to food again. I haven't figured out how to fill that hole that food leaves when I don't use it to make me feel better. My only alternative to eating to cope is NOT eating, which leaves a vacuum that needs to be filled with something, or else food comes back!

  • you look pretty thin to me

  • @muzicluva000 Thanks! That's always fun to hear!

  • @josielenore and i can also relate because im thin, and yet im not quite happy with it... its those last 5 pounds that count! good luck girl :)

  • @muzicluva000

People hold themselves to different, and often unrealistic, standards. You and I might look at her and think she's thin, but according to her own ideals, she's fat. Telling someone who truly believes they're fat, that they are thin, is kind of pointless when most of the time, negative body image is something that has developed over years and years. It's sad, especially when the person is someone you care about, and they can't see how beautiful they really are, right now.

  • Thank you!!

    I can relate

and you brought up a lot that i hadn't thought about before :O

I will definitely remember this video next time I think about eating when I don't actually feel hungry ;)

  • Have you read:

    Eat to Live;

    Immunity to Change;

    The End of Overeating?

  • I agree with changing the way you think about food - but also check out books like 'Slim for Life' by Jason Vale or the Fast Food Nation books etc whic look at the addictive nature of processed food, which combined with emotional eating is why we find ourselves facing the problem of overeating....

  • Its ironic that i was emotionally eating while watching this video

  • youre freaking awesome! im subscribing!

  • Aw thanks~ you're nice!

  • Restricting ourselves may not always lead to more desire. Sometimes, it may be true as resistance may create more desire to do the very things we are resisting.

But if we indulge in what we want to eat staying within limitations, then it can be a good strategy.

  • your house is just tooo cute! :D

  • Aw thanks!!!

  • HI Josie,

God Bless you for sharing your path with food and getting it out to those who are seeking ways to better take care of themselves. I love how you pointed out that we are actualling caring for ourselves but just using one resource to do that, food. I look forward to viewing more of your video's and sharing them with friends.

    Kindest Reqards,

    Tania

  • Thankyou, you just summed up my entire life

  • Hey Josie,

I love the idea of accepting the coping habit from age 9. And appreciating that the 9yr old you did that. And now it's time to move on. And that you are welcoming the urge to overeat and seperating out the actual urge for you to take care of yourself but not accepting the habitual solution (over eating). And looking to yourself to feel what you are needing. Thanks for sharing.

  • dieting leads to occational binge-eating because you have stopped to cronically binge....

  • you are saying the truth !

  • SIGH it's 12am right now.......and I just pigged out coz i was stressed. shit all my diet and exercise RUINED!!!

  • Then don't keep pig-out food in the house. I binge on fruit, but thats easily dealth with...

  • Could you, please, share your knowledge, as fruit is exactly that I can not stop eating :-(( that is sugar addiction, I know...:-(((

  • @LoveMatcha Hey there. I'm wondering do you try to restrict yourself from eating fruit? Restricting leads to the desire to binge.

I think no matter what we forbid (fat, protein, carbs, sugar) we'll want to binge on...it is an equal opportunity concept and well documented from a research perspective. What if you allow yourself to eat as much fruit as you want when you are hungry and see if it loses some of its pull? You absolutely can do this and it will feel so good when you are free!!!

  • Hi! Thank you for your response!:-)

Well I can not seem to stop even when the hunger is gone... especially with highly hybridized fruit (like bananas) and dried fruit. I tell myself "one more and this is it" but end up eating like ... it is even embarrassing to write...:-( And it does loses its pull exactly for about half a day:-(

  • Easily dealth with as in I can't actually carry more than 4 kilo of apples home with me anyway:P I eat the house clean - believe me!

  • @LoveMatcha I wish I CAN eat fruit instead of what I crave usually ... chips!

  • thanks for the video..!

  • Great video, great advice. Thanks for sharing. You seem lovely :)

  • i don't emotionally over eat; i just like taste too much.

i find it helps if you right down EXACTLY what i should eat that day the day before, and say strict to that, instead of writing it down after i ate it.

  • Hi Josie- The animated way you talk, and the way you make context engaging is amazing. You touched my brain and I hope you find a way to talk about things you're passionate about, you will touch hearts.

One thing you don't cover is the sensations of the body, such that patterns of overeating will cause metabolism and a craving feeling in the gut. Instead of talking about excess calories, some people are compelled to eat more because they have not satisfied their body's nutritional needs.

  • lol we all have freaks living in our head, hahahahaha LMAO that part was sooo funny!

  • Oh phew!!! Glad I'm not the only one!

  • Everything you're saying makes sense. I know the feelings well. I love how you talk it's so cute and funny.

  • it really struck me when u talked about what happens when u end up cheating after being on a strict diet. Because everytime that happens to me & i do slip up, i'm always so hard on myself after & i think "what the hell, i've already messed up" and i end up binging and i dont stop. i'll definitely try taking that advice about really looking at the real root of the problem & stop excusing food as a means for me to feel better, because in the end I always end up feeling really crappy about myself.

  • finally...someone who gets it!!

  • Aw Bjork914 that is music to my ears!!! There is a sweetness in someone "getting" us that is inexplicably comforting!!!

  • So "getting it" is "agreeing with my opinion"?

  • You should listen to their interview on newdimensions(dot)org. Serious misandrist agenda and they spend the hour using semantics to blame men for women dieting. And in the end when one of them said that if women stop thinking about weight that they could rule the world, the interviewer (a woman) cut the interview.

  • Munter & Hirschmann are spouting misandrist propoganda. Women are dieting because of a male society? How about women that want to stay healthy? Women that don't want to die young due to heart problems? Women that have self-respect and don't want to be obese? And they try to blame overweightness and obesity on genetics. No one was this fat on the average until the onset of the U.S. fast food culture from the 50s on. And why does this "fat gene" only affect Americans?

  • Dear bobolited,

I am 17, and have a BMI of 20.4. Indeed, I suffer from binge eating on a daily basis.

Josielenore often relates her own experiences with binge eating and emotional eating. Not only that, she is articulate, energetic, and intelligent. Her videos are excellent, in my opinion, and her beauty and size/weight do not impact the validity of her experiences and advice! =)

Best wishes to everyone struggling with binge eating. As Josielenore says, "There is hope!"

  • i have a bmi of 17.5 and i binge eat i'm not fat but this helped me

  • oh my gosh! this is me all over!

I'm 15 and for the past four years I was on a permanent diet but at christmas I started overeating..or binge eating...

I don't know how to stop but your video is comforting! I just don't know how to change my frame of mind..?!

    :S xxx

  • Honestly, this video made me cry. This explained exactly what I had to a T and i dunno.. it just made me feel really sad.

  • aw...bumblebeedancer! It is sad....a lot of us have been through so much pain in this area... but there ABSOLUTELY is hope...watch my last vid if you get a chance it talks about some exciting research about emotional eating....there is hope my friend!!!

  • What's the video titled??

  • How to cope like a skinny person...

  • i so have that triangle thing!

  • Wow. Thankyou for this!

You remind me of lorelai gilmore for some reason...

  • AH!!! That is the BEST compliment you could EVER give me!!! My favorite show of life!!! Thanks so much :) Ah you made my day...

  • girl - you seem to have analyzed the issue inside out! anyways, hardly anything there so helpful and brilliant in the simplicity of the way you put it! thnx so much!!!!

  • That is so true...it's all about how we look at food...I was just watching your "take a skinny friend to lunch" video, which just showed how naturally skinny people look at food in a completely different way. They don't put it on a pedestal like I do.

I'm studying abroad in Japan right now, and I see how much more they appreciate food...they take pictures and get excited over it... I feel like I really need to start doing that. Thank you!

  • Very true! Excess weight is a symptom!

  • how interesting! I feel like I don't deserve to eat most of the time, I can go one more day fasting, one more day, but then a binge and it starts over again. Wish I could quit food like people do drugs and just never do it. Yes, that's messed up, I know. Thank you for the videos, take care :)

  • I understand the "what the hell" theory... I have a huge problem with stopping when Im ready... and yes I do beat myself up... I need help to stop eating something that tastes so good... its really hard.

  • I really like the rule "I wont beat myself up" and I enjoyed your video. For me its been in the past that I haven't respected myself subconsciously enough to eat different and I would get half way to my goal weight and then completely sabotage myself... so it has only been recently that I have started just focusing on every day and trying to respect myself in every part of my life for that day.Its making life much more enjoyable and healthy-but I will definately work on the not beating myself up

  • Wow that really resonates with me- especially "food will be my nice mommy." I was a latchkey kid who had a younger sibling to watch after school and after not having breakfast or lunch I'd come home to all the groceries and overeat cause I hadn't eaten all day. My sis and I would play and I wouldn't do my homework, then we'd scurry to clean the house up before mom got home. It's so clear to me now why I "love" food so much- it was totally a surrogate nurterer. Weird.

  • WOW! That is huge! I agree, I think (not to get all Freud) that we turn to food to meet that mothering nurturing need somethimes. Which is actually great news- because even if we didn't have nurturing care modeled for us as children we can learn it now and give it to ourselves.! Sure it might be foreign at first but it is oh so worth it!!!

  • I lived in the "what the hell" mentality for way too many years. Crazy crash dieting which led to food obsession, binging and guilt. This video is so spot on! It really wasn't until recently when i stopped restricting what I ate that I began to be more at peace with food. I do count calories, but for some reason, that is "freeing". I too continue to work on self soothing without food.

  • Wow I love hearing that you feel at peace with food and free. That is SUCH a beautiful place to be!! I love that for you!!!

  • omg yes that sooo ME!

  • i absolutely love your personality its so lovable and very inspiring seeing the real interest you have towards these matters x and i agree with you with the mentality of food; if we put it in its proper place and didnt some how humanise it or turn it into an emotive thing rather than what it is (fuel) then people wouldnt have this some what addiction and unhealthy relationship towards it x

  • You're skinny, hon! Good for you.

  • great videos!

    is ubbed u

    sub me back

    great videoooo

  • Wow! I'm watching this while I'm eating cake... out of the pan... something to definitely think about! LOL! Thanks for the insight!

  • I find all of your videos to be so brilliant. Please keep it up - you are speaking to my heart.

AND you are SO beautiful! :D

Thank you for deciding to come on here and make videos... I just adore your personality.

  • love this video, you are talking about everything that is me. i know that whole triangle far too well. it is so incredibly important to learn that food does not equal failure... it is a hard thing to grasp for someone like me who has spent 15+ years dieting.

please keep the discussion going in your videos. i am loving them!

  • you are inspiring, pretty AND funny!
