  • The conversation about screws vs nails is a moot point since everything is glued. The nails/screws simply hold everything till the glue dries. In theory you could take them out after the glue is dry. ..... nobody would, but you could.

  • The use of nails in this video should be replaced by screws. Pre-drill holes with a drill so the plywood don't split... YOU NEVER USE NAILS FOR INDOOR WOODWORK!!!

  • @ModelloursWorkshop I'm not expert at all, but isn't their a reason to use nails over screws?, - heat expansion, nails can expand and contract with room temperature better than screws, of course if you did the job professionally you would leave "expansion gaps". Not certain on this but just a thought?

  • Well, Leon, I agree. Just finished assembling it. I did a bit, then put it down ... then did a bit more, then put it down .... BUT, a good thing did come of it. I FINALLY purchased a cordless drill/driver. What a difference THAT made!

  • how much did it cost all together to build this? not tools just materials???

  • what is the name that you use polystyrene?

  • can you put thomas

  • @qomarguy yes

  • I like model trains

  • how do you have 7 strips?

  • do u have to follow these measurements if you are constructing say

    a 11ftx7ft table

    or 8ftx3ft table

    or even a 3ftx8ft table

    cheers

  • @jmsschooner no these measurements are for this example you can build it how you need it

  • This will be my third train layout. I built something similar to this on my last one, but this is superior. I plan building this design myself after trying to choose between an open-layout vs. the 4X8 sheet of plywood on top. This style will save a lot of time in building the benchwork, and then you can get onto the fun stuff.

  • This is a great table, the one I built, took me a full Saturday to do it with the help of my 6 year old. I wouldn't consider myself the best woodworker, just average joe level. The original plans are out of the pamphlet/book "Easy Model Railroading Tables for Your Trains" by Kalmbach. Cheap buy and well worth it. Though I thought I remembered pilot drilling holes and using sheetrock screws. My memory is foggy not standing in front of it. Anyhow its a great simple design to build for anyone.

  • lol i took a week to do finish this table but then the work is worth it

  • Is this on dvd or caset(vhs)

  • i have this video

  • Michael Gross played in tremors

  • My rooms too small :-(

  • Would sandeply be a good choice over birch for small modular sections?

  • is there anywere i could just buy a table like this instead of making it as my woodwork skills really aint that great.

  • @LEON13858 You could use a child's train table like that of a thomas train to support the plywood, which you will either glue, or nail to the table

  • @LEON13858 I bought a ping pong table (5' x 10') and it works fine, but assembling the table from scratch was a bummer.

  • @NurseyNancy thanks.

  • Extremely helpful! I'm going to do this!

  • cool i think im gona do it when i get the train

  • Thank you for the posting!

  • extremely helpful thanks ^_^
