All this 'dirty leeds' rubbish is just that. All the teams in the country played football that way. The idea they were the dirtiest stems from the jealousy that other fans had for leeds being the best club in the country. What's even more pathetic is that people still say it to this day.

That Leeds team is still infamous as the dirtiest- Brian Clough when briefly Leeds manager told them he wouldn't put up with it! Bremner and Bite yer legs Hunter. When did Leeds win the double? And who have just done just that? That season Leeds ended up with nothing. I've just seen a clip of a pinpoint Charlie Cooke cross with left foot, here with the right; there are top players today completely one-footed. Bonetti played on after a vicious Mick Jones foul.

charger you obviously watched another game,you forgot to mention that sprake fumbled a houseman hit and hope in the wembley game.leeds were the far better team over the two ties,also if you look at the league fixture previous to the cup final you'll notice leeds won 5-2 at stamford bridge only months before the final.however, i have to add this: mcreadies foul on bremner in the second half of the replay,not only  was it a penalty but mcreadie should've been banned for that kung foo kick.

Spurs v Man City 1981 - replay

it makes me cringe everytime i see this,leeds were far the better team and won the match at wembley but for gary sprake,look very closely at david webbs supposed winner,he doesnt actually make contact with the ball but pushes eddie gray onto it,i regularly take david webbs son daniel into town on saturday nights im a taxi driver,he himself admits that his father pushed gray that night.

Well Leeds hit the woodwork three times in the final matches but they scored a goal at Wembley from one of the rebounds so that one hardly counts. Chelsea had two efforts cleared off the line, a perfectly good goal disallowed at O.T. not to mention Bonetti playing most of that match on virtually one leg so didn't have all the luck. Webb may well have nudged Gray but the ball definately goes in off his cheek. Two great games and two great teams.

It came from before this final, Leeds always seemed to beat us in the league (in fact they seemed unbeatable at the time!) but we often seemed to beat them in cup games.

Topnum & kate232, Also you have to remember about the legacy of Don Revie, he was the most deconstructive manager up to that date by coaching every known professional foul to this Leeds team, it wasn't just Chelsea who hated them, most poeple hated them at the time but this was the first time they were beaten at their own game --- thanks for the memories.

Thanks for this. The two matches are often remembered for the amount of dirty play, but, as this clip shows, there was sublime skill as well. Jones's goal was fantastic, ditto Osgood's.

I was right behind the goal when Osgood scored that equaliser. My dad's friend who was stood next to me had just lit his pipe and when everyone leapt in the air it shot out of his mouth,sparks everywhere,never to be seen again! I don't think Jones would have scored if Bonetti had not just been injured. As he dived his injured leg gave way and he couldn't quite reach the ball.
