.. why the hell does he play a DOUBLEPEDAL but has two bassdrums?!? Guess this was due to studio miking, the left bd simply holds the toms and cymbals but from that there's no use to it - he only plays the right one (with the doublepedal) .. hmm, and for all doublebass geeks out there - yes, there is more than doublebass speed .. far more ! .. ;o)
if double bass drumming bpm was the most important thing in drumming, drummers woudnt be musicians, but athletles. there are things much more important, such as musicality, feeling, etc.
Well.... obviously he's technically excellent, capable of doing some very complex stuff...
But a lot of these really technical drummers seem to be led by there technique. Maybe that is an unfait critisism, if this is a solo for a drum clinic that is intended to show of technique.
However:
Go and listen to someone like Ginger Baker, say. Only about 10% of this guys technique, but his solos are so much more musical and entertaining to listen to!
the guy is extremely good on his feet!! but he lacks so much stick control!!! take away the double pedal and he'd sound like a very generic drummer! This dude was just making noise!!
I think this isn't real music (in my opinion). It's more like a proof to be able to play fast. I prefer Jost Nickels solos, that i can whip with the music, but nevertheless this is good too.
if i had a rack which is built only for me i would do it better... sure he can trick with his sticks by playing but this is not drumming. i saw him live and on other vids but if this is all he learned in almost 25 years i'm really disappointed because there are so many really good drummer they would do more than repeat a solo and a handfull of songs every show without a special rack. I don't know why he or others are so famous by beeing so average or even less!
to the guys that say he is always the same, ok so whats your point? most drummers go with what they know. even the peart solo is the same. chad smith is the same, carl palmer is awesome but his solo is usually the same etc, etc. this guy on a bad day still still kicks the shit out of joey j. (by the way, to all you joey & travis lovers out there, check out c.palmers "snare demo" on youtube) screw you haters. u!!! sure as hell cant play this, even minus the over rated twirling.
To all the haters - Can you play at least to the same level as Mike? If you can't - yet you call him a bad drummer - what are you saying about yourselves?
@Sc0ttPrian Yeah, I can appreciate that if it is used tastefully, but when it is over used, like here, I don't like it at all.... prefer listening to Vinny Appice, Nicko McBrain or Chad Smith do a solo......but that's just my opinion.
@DHRC18 i will have to agree, i grew up learning drums with metal, then i found many drummers doing the same thing, without understanding the basics first. for example, there is a petal attached to the hihats. most people seem to disconnect when it comes to that. haha
@curtarmmar You're probably quite stupid if you can say something like that... You don't want to admit that he is a fucking great drummer so you rather say he hits everything at random... xD xD But every his bang is hit absolutely exactly in the right time... And if you're a drummer and don't know it or hear it, it's your fault - not his.

Ugliest drummer ive ever seen, and if a 13 year old just could play fast with his foots he could probably do this solo. Drumming dont build on swirling and swirling and swirling the sticks.
Sorry, after listening to the full solo i found that he was very good. I guess i had been listening to Neil Peart and Chad SMith all day, and then this was not so exciting. :)
hes making RETARDED faces when hes not even drumming right... -,-
