Irregardless of how one feels about Mr. Diamond, I think its pretty cool of anyone who goes to see a movie, in this case, E.T., then goes home and writes this tune. I believe it when they say this is what an artist does. Thank you for posting this song.

If you did not shed one tear with E.T. you have no soul man. My daughter who just turned 6 saw it with me for the first time and WE both cried. To bad she's going to have to grow up with all the filth movies now (although there is a couple of good ones like Chronicles of Narnia and so forth). E.T. embodies what's good in all of us.

actually, burt bacharach, carole bayer sager & neil diamond did write "heartlight" just after the 3 of them watched the film E.T. together. it says so in the liner notes about heartlight. heartlight is in the c d "burt bacharach & friends - gold", the compilation of burt's songs. so, yes! the movie is the best fit for this lovely song. thanks drumD8on for posting this gem.
