Good tempo, pretty good interpretation, didn't romanticize it like Horowitz does. So, Horowitz delivers a great show but it's not really Mozart as much as Horowitz. Lang Lang delivers more of a Mozart performance but he uses strange ornamentation and it was nowhere near as charming as it usually is. It was too loud, he missed opportunities to make it really great. Still, I liked it.
this playing is just so horribly horrible... its sad, i really personally do not have anything against ANY pianists but this pianist really RAPES not only the piece, but also my ears.
@qwer4o Rhythmically unstable, excessive use of pedal, messy execution of embellishments are just the few things jumped out from Horowitz's version. Lang's vesion lacked contrast in expression and dynamics, but other than that, it conveys a sense of youthful careless abandon. Lang 1 vs. Horowitz 0, considered their age and understanding of Mozart.
@dasteufelhund I've never been a Lang Lang fan, but I was quite surprised to find that I liked this version for the exact reason you said, "a sense of youthful careless abandon." The guy seems like a goof most of the time (or LOOKS like one, anyway), but maybe that helped here. It definitely wasn't the stuffy, aristocratic version we usually hear and I could envision Mozart playing it in a similar vein.
@maidestone At least Liberace could play well and had much better taste than this clown. He also would take Mozart seriously, no antics. Of course he wasn't a Paderewski, Cortot, d'Albert, Schnabel, etc.
@2ndviolinist Mozart's playing and writing was treated the same as what you've just described by composers both in and out of courts in his time. So what is your point?
@2ndviolinist can you explain why you called him 'clown'? he's talented in music and he expressed him well, every young guy is full of passion, can you blame all that to him? see the same thing with another perspective
@CYF1993 Go look up videos of pianists from the 1940s, '30s, some videos even date from the '20s. The playing is much better with no rock star histrionics. They sat still and let the music do the talking when young, middle-aged, or old. Try Paderewski (a sensation in his day), Moiseiwitsch, even Horowitz and Rubintein who I don't like very much.

@alwaysmazzel Not even a breakdown of your nasty ass critique, your comment serves as much purpose next to a pile of shit stuck on velcro.

Technically incomparable.
Musically laughable.
But then, Liberace probably had more fans then Schnabel ever did...
