The car actually maxed out at 269.8 mph or 434kph on its return run.

There is no point in comparing the veyron with anything else,even if some other car beats it later (and one will) this is a lesson is engineering that no other can follow for a long long time.

No doubt shelby will throw another few horse power into the SSC just to beat it but its just not on the same planet as the veyron.

Is it a VW ..?? No more than a ferrari is a fiat, its french with some italian geographical history.

@jimmyybob Actually the engines are from Audi and VW made this car, so it's actually a VW, but a F*CKIN GOOD ONE!!!!!!!! Even if it gets beaten, they simply have to give a bit more horses and that's it, the Veyrons engine could handle up to almost 2000hp in a strengh test.

these top gear guys are such dicks when dealing with American cars. The SSC Aero broke the record and started making news in 2007 and they paid no attention to it. The first time they even give it any acknowledgment is when they find a car that can beat it.

I'm not SSC Aero Fanboy, I actually like the Veyron better, even the original one. But this continuous disrespect for American cars is just ridiculous on this show. They don't even attempt to hide there anti-americaness, shameful.

@TheProjektcc I agree with you to a point, Clarkson is disrespectful to everyone at times though. No matter where / who you are he's probably pissed you off about something! Hammond likes a bit of American muscle, it's just that Clarkson prefers the finesse from a European car that you jst don't get with American cars, as fun as they are.

@TheProjektcc You are mistaken as when the SSC went into production they mentioned it on top gear and also the fact it was faster than the then Bugatti. They did though also say it would fall to pieces. If they could have got a hold of one for the show then I am sure they would have tested it. TG liked the vettes, Vipers and of course the Ford GT, not all American cars are crap. If the SSC was built to the Ford GT standards (which is good, interior?) the SSC would have been taken more seriously
