I use a SSL 6k and a SSL 9k here in California. Great boards. Do you have a Lexicon 480L sitting in the middle yet? I wish I could get one for my self! Do you have any other videos of you mixing or recording with it?
@jrhager84 The 9000J and 9000K are cool as well. I believe the 4000G will remain the true classic. I also didn't like in the 9000 that it absorbs a lot of heat in the control room and it's less service-friendly because it uses SMD (surface mounted devices) which means it's not easy at all to service compared to the 4000.
dude....i use an allen and heath 32 channel at my school and i think that it's a big board. but that...thats just huge. but i bet you bought it for the sound not the size. how is it man?
@gunsandammo92 Well, it being a 48-Channel (which means 104 Inputs) gives me all the flexibility I need for subgrouping, bussing signals to several faders, parallel compressing etc. - I like the look and size of it as well. But, I've seen a 24 Channel G-Series and they are not "small" either. They all have the on-board patchbay.
@BludStatic123 I'd say: No! Quality has to be there before you even run your signal through the board. The quality is in the whole package.. routing, grouping and monitoring flexibility, great channel EQ and Compression, great analog summing, etc. - this console is the center of the whole studio.
I do know some people though who use it just to run a stereo-signal through the bus-compressor.
I went to the Euphonix lab in San fran. It looks like this place. hahaha You would expect guys in lab coats. But it look like Home depot in there haha.
Viel Spass damit!
@Mooseboy240 Just had to produce about 50 charting records before I could afford it. Nobody was killed, not even animals! (not even real leather used on this desk LoL)
@Sol7Studios It's a G-Series Desk with a costum "small" E-Series Computer Keyboard. It was build in late 1991. The 4000 G-Series are "granite grey" while the older E-Series are in a darker "raven" color. The difference is not that big. The G-Series contains a lot of updated components that found their way into the 4000 series. The biggest are the cleaner channel and summing amplifiers and more reliable components incl. power supplies.
@madsonrecords SSL doesn't build the legendary 4000 series (E and G-Series) anymore. They did the last ones around 2004/2005 while there were other series already available (9000J, K and XL-Series as well as some digital consoles). So, I bought this one second hand. It was about 300.000 Euros new in 1992 and I only paid a small fraction of that.
@madsonrecords They stooped making them about 6 or 7 years ago. The demand for large format super analogue has almost gone gone away. As far as i know SSL and API are the only 2 companies still making the really ones.
aaaaaahhhh...aaaaahhhhh....aaaaahhhhhhh....envy....eny.....envy.......you lucky lucky basterd!!!! looking forward to the new mozart&friends era of SSL!!!!

if you run your music through a ssl board without using anything does it still boost the overall quality
