  • An Arvin on top of a Magnavox Stereo Theatre? Pretty portable, and a fun song! The Rockyfellers have tons more personality than THE Rockefellers. Hands down.

  • Had no idea that this was the real version, I was used to the jazz version. Interesting piece of history I just learned...

  • When i was a little girl about 5 i used to stand on the coffee table dancing to this song with all my family cheering me on.LOL

  • This was a bad song!!!!!!!!!! reminds me when i lived in california......Wish i was there...

  • Growing up my father recounted a story of the group The group originally named the Rockafellers but the rich family made them change their name...

  • another classic song that i will sing and remember for many years

  • Man, I was just a kid when this version came out! Very cool! If you listen to "You Don't Have To", by 'The Beeds' (posted on youtube) the lead singers have the same unique voice!

  • Very underrated song

  • When I was a kid in the early 60's there was this rowdy bar by the corner of our house and this song was always blaring out of it. There seemed to be a bar on almost every corner in Los Angeles back in those days. Me and my brothers made a bundle shining shoes back then. Nowadays everyone wears sportshoe wear.

  • The group was from the Phillipines

  • Manila, Philippines to be exact. Pop Feller and his four sons, Eddie, Albert, Tony, and Junior Feller. Killer Joe made it to #16 on the Billboard Charts in 1963.

  • this goes out to surfside48, it's so good to read an artical in which the writer knows what thier writing about...kudos to you

  • I have to admit that I have two sources for alot of my info: Billboards top 40 book and wikipedia. I also keep A copy of A soft cover OXFORD AMERICAN DICTIONARY, 'Beekuzz I Kan't spel fore chit.(Ha, Ha.) Just A little retired salesman's humor.

  • @surfside48 I agree with you, though I should write it "eye igri wit yew" and add a "hahahahahahaha" to the end. After all, if "everybody is doing it", by definition it must be good, right? :-)

  • A Theresa Brewer record. One side of it is posted on my channel.

  • I had an album with this single on it. I would agree that they looked more asian than mexican. Catchy beat and neat sound. Never heard another song from them that was a hit like this.

  • Jimmy Osmond sang this song in the 70's

  • Cool. I'll be looking that version up now.

  • CLASSIC!!!

  • WOW!! What a great song, here!! Still remember this song playing on the ZENITH stereo console. Babysitter Cathy Malone, along with her "tin can" rollers in her hair!!!

  • Sweet memories! Me too! I heard this song for the first time on my brand new "transistor" radio! GREAT song - 10+ stars!

  • The kingsmen do a great version of this too with fuzztones. It is on You Tube also.

  • Cool! Just linked through your faves to bucksheespins version. Sounded great. Thanks for the info. Rob. Jiggy

  • your welcome.

  • this song came out at the same time with sukiyaki and they both hit the us charts. they were both first asian artists to do so.

  • thanks for posting.some of these songs I havent heard in over 45 years.I was begining to think they were a figment of my imagination.

  • Hi Auntie! (singgodspraise) I love that their music still lives on! Long live The Maligmat's!! Woot-Woot! ;p

  • love the video seriously its so awesome

  • Thanks for putting this up - I woke up today with this song in my head and probably would have lost my mind if I had been unable to find it somewhere. Amazon has the Rocky Fellas album on cd for around 60 bucks. The classic combination of a boy band from the Phillipines singing about a dance instructor from NYC. I may be nuts, but thank you.

  • gosh love this song =D

  • Killer Joe, OOH!

  • Audio sucks.

  • Hmm let's see... automatic volume, 11,020 Hz. sample rate through a camera mic 2 or 3 feet away from a portable record player.

    Yup you're right. :D

  • By the way, IloveMary35 is right. They were 4 Filipino brothers and their dad. Lots of stuff on the web about them including a page on Wikipedia.

  • Hi again 1LoFi45, I did some investigating... It was done (originally, I think) by The Kingsmen. I haven't heard it yet but I'll try to track it down. Thanks for your help!

  • Cool! Thanks pernicketty.

  • Hey thanks 1loFi45. I'll follow that up. Those names sound familiar. Incidentally, I remember now who the record I had was by. It WAS the Rocky Fellers.

  • Sick shit!

  • I used to have this on an album. I can't remember the name of the band but I thought they were little Mexican boys - aged about 10 - 13. The song sure sounds Mexican to me. I've been wishing to hell I never sold that album ever since but I figure it was probably a cover. Little kids don't write songs about fighting in dancehalls do they? If it was a cover who did the original? Anybody know for sure?

  • I'm not sure there was an "original". But this is the only record I've seen or heard of this. Songwriters in the 60's passed their tunes to producers and got lost in the shuffle. The record credits them as Bert Russell and Bob Elgin.

  • This is the original they are not mexican they are philipinos[ a family group like the jackson 5 with the youngest as the lead singer, but before the jackson 5 ,the kingsmen did a live version of this song but that was later].

  • Yea, I learned that since I posted the comment. They did this in '63 which was way earlier than the Sonics. Apparently they were discovered by a (American?) producer named Stanley Kahn. Don't know how that came about but the song was written by American writers which explains the Mexican style.

  • it doesnt sound mexican to me it sounds like jaimcan calypso music [there was an advertisement in billbourd then that read the 4 seasons new record big girls dont cry has a calypso beat] a jamaican big band record then called dont walk dance has the guy yelling uhh like the rocky fellas.

  • I'm pretty sure that's a cha cha rhythm. Cha cha started in Cuba in the 50s and spread rapidly throughout the latin world. The reason I thought it sounded Mexican was because of the trumpets.

  • Great song. One of the great under-rated songs of all time

  • Wow I forgot this song. It's great to hear it again.

  • The Rocky Fellers were from the Phillipines and were hired by whomever wrote this song to play and record it.

  • I had not heard this song since the 1960's when I was about 9 or 10 years old. Thanks.

  • awesome!

  • sounds good to me! Keep on playin' those 45s.

  • Thanks!

  • I'm from the UK and although it wasn't a hit here all my pals and I really thought this record was marvellous .I still have it on vinyl. By the way the current catalogue value here is £15 or c$30

  • Yes u did answered my answer thanks!!!!

  • can u tell me if this is an original?? please and thanks by the way!!!!

  • I'm guessin' yes... Goldmine catalog doesn't list a reissue. The numbers match and it has Lonely Teardrops on the B side. Hmmm in Near Mint condition this would be worth $15. Hope that's what you where asking.

  • Its original I have the same one they never made an LP they did have one song on a Wyncote(Parkway) compilation South Pacific Twist.

  • To 'singgodspraise'. Your words ring true. I really

believe what you say. That song from your family had

brought a lotta joy into my life. Thank you all! My

condolences over your father and brother! God rest

their souls! Long live the memory of 'Killer Joe!'

  • Stanley Kahan Aka Bob Elgin

  • Thanks for the comment and marking this in your favorites. Looks like the whole family's checking in. I've been hoping by keeping to older songs that if the artist where to discover it they'd appreciate thier work getting broadcast. Gonna check out the link on your channel now. See ya. :)

  • Thanks for playing one of my fathers greatest hits. He made that record with the rocky fellas . His name is Stanley Kahan .

  • Thanks for playing my family's "hit" record of the 60's. They are still entertaining people in Hawaii and California. One of my brothers went home to be with the Lord in March and my Father went home 11 years ago at the age of 91.

  • Thank you for taking time to see my simple vid. And I'll be meeting you and your family when I go home. :D
