@EffLabels I rented the movie last night. It's about a Greek woman making a living as a hooker and loving her life as one... No wonder they rewrote the lyrical story line when they published the song in English back in the early 60s. The movie does end with a good quote though: "Only true love can save her." But if she's a hooker, I don't think she would have any clue clue what "true love" is. In fact, I don't think many know what "true love" is.

@HMG5588 ha ha. Yes, it's a great movie and quite provocative for it's time, but I suppose Greeks have always been sexually..'liberated'? lol Melina Mecouri was a treasure.I have heard the English version, and the tameness kind of ruins the sadness and meaning of the original piece.

@EffLabels Yes. I agree the movie was quite surprising and interesting taking into account it was released nearly 50 years ago. It reminded me of the movie "Melina" which I think is more realistic in terms of the life of a hooker. Another movie that comes to mind is "The Hairdresser's Husband". That's a very sad but beautiful one as well.
