  • wow never paid attention to what an unbelievable drummer David Robinson is!

  • Elliott Easton looks like Michael Cena

  • best version i've seen. rocking on all fronts. ric was a fortunate mofo to find these guys. he'd be playing the sunday happy hour at shaggy's piano bar.

  • the Germans in the audience have no clue how lucky and historical this concert was at Inladen.

  • oh, to be a bass guitar in the hands of benjamin orr.

  • Pretty sure Ben is missing some base lines here...during the verse....

  • This is vintage Cars....

  • Yo, cherry picker. @theDeckisStacked I've given Ocasik his due credit. Did you not see the bit about some cheesy rhythm guitar parts?

You seem to be hung up on The Cars. I'm not arguing against The Cars. I've claimed that if Easton, Orr and Robinson formed their own band, such a band would have showcased their musicianship, musicianship constrained by a limiting vehicle as The Cars were.

Cheesy sythns, quirky lyrics and crappy rhythm guitar can only go so far — 5 LPs.

  • Except, your theory suffers from a fundamental flaw @theDeckisStacked , as mine isn't theory.

Besides, Ocasik did little more than write lyrics and some cheesy rhythm guitar parts. Roy Thomas Baker produced the band and not Ric as you claim, falsely, of course.

Easton wrote his leads. Robinson wrote his drumming parts. Hawkes wrote his keyboard parts. Ben wrote his own songs.

In short, a different band would have arisen from Easton, Orr, Robinson — a better one.

  • wow.....Rick looks like he's sooooo into it.

  • That keyboard guy with the red Star Track shirt on had better watch it... or he will be dead before the video is over.

  • J/K

  • Wow I did know John Denver played keyboard for "The Cars"!?!?!? :)

  • Tight for live...

  • OMG @ 4:06 and around there; how Ben and Elliot look at each other **faints**

SEXY!! Love this Song!! this performance is awesome; Elliot goes around to front of stage:) I miss all of them 2gether. Love you Ben, RIP.

  • The cars were so fucking cool they didn't know how cool they really were.... KICK ASS!!

  • thia was a ric song kinda weird he only played rhythm on it , what a great band . i was 3 when this came out my sister played there stuff non stop so glad .

  • @rufusrose and so cool ric and been came out of columbus . his last interveiw he looked so bad .

  • @rufusrose now i sit back and listen to the guitar work on this song awesome . just the part rick puts in . great stuff

  • fav cars tune

  • they had no equal in their day

  • Music just doesn't get any better than this. They sound better live than today's crap bands do in the studio. Benjamin Orr was phenominal. RIP Ben !

  • The Cars are an ultra-talented band. Great singers and musicians. Beats anything out today. How could Madonna be in the Hall before these guys. I guess it's now a popularity contest....sucks!

  • this is so raw and heavy!!!

  • This absolutely rocks... for me the measure of a band is how they perform live... and this is such a good performance... Great energy... I had no idea how many of the Cars classic tunes Ben Orr did the lead vocals... He was fantastic... I think he sang most of my favorite songs. Thanks for the post.

  • My dad got me into this band. He said he listened to them when he was my age, literally. Myself being 18 now and him being 18 at the time of the self-titled being released. This is now one of my favorite bands of all-time.

  • Damn, ben orr is a great singer!

  • Saw them at MSG in NY back in 1982 or 1983. Great concert.

  • still almost unbelievable - so talented, so original

  • Rest In Peace Benjamin Orr.

  • damn right they should be in the rock and roll hall of fame! asap! The friggin righteous brothers are in and the cars aren't? what about alice cooper, rush?

  • Benjamin sure was a yummy looking man and that VOICE!

He was and still is my heart-throb

He made women happy : ))))

  • Ben didn't get to sing lead enough! He had a good voice. I would have given anything to have seen them just once. Ben, I love you and miss you. R.I.P, baby.

  • @girlmusic2remember the CARS did reunite this year but unfortuntely without Benjamin Orr. May 2011 my ultimate dream came true and i seen the CARS in concert. I felt his presence though and I think he s with them in spirit. You should check my channel out.

  • What kind of bass is that? a Vox?

  • Thanks for posting the videos! What an amazing band!

  • 2:19 musicians feeding off each other building energy.. Awesome..

  • The keyboard player looks straight outa Star Trek..lol

  • RnRHOF? That whole organization is a joke now. Someone needs to make a new one and start inducting deserving bands that the RnRHOF missed, like The Cars and Rush. At the same time, NOT inducting bands or people like Madonna and LL.Cool J. Sure, they're great in their own styles but not RnR.

  • beautiful beautiful voice

  • The band played at their best with Ben at the vocals.

The should have dumped Ben's hanger on friend, Ric Ocasic, before they ever went into the studio the first time.

  • Nowadays, no more fantastic music groups like The Cars

    Just fantastic.

  • Great song live! Whoo-hoo! Rock On! Bye-Bye-Love! Tight and loud and rocking.

  • There aren't many bands around, then or now, that are THAT tight!!! What a great collection of players!!

  • I was so crazy for Ben back then and always loved him, but lately he's been back fully in my daily consciousness. He always had some kind of magical quality to him that still gets me to this day.

  • Benjamin was the best !

  • He sings it very very well!!

  • Great guitar, drums and keyboards on this one (along with great song/singing)

  • So tight! What a great show that must have been.

  • i think they are a very influential band. The way they designed their presentations in videos is very "high concept". They were a smart bunch and had some awesome songs. They were also campy and satirical. There is a lot to engage the mind in what they did.

  • cutting edge brilliant! Just breathtaking!

  • Brillian! Thanks Benny.

  • the Cars are simply brilliant... the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame voting is rigged / so much bullshit...Rush Should have been inducted way before Madonna

    *snickering* Madonna? pulllease!

  • @deiderique the hall of shame,,,,eddie trunk of that metal show hates them

  • @deiderique to be honest when they announced some of the groups that got elected I almost think that the RNR Hall of fame is just a joke so it might be a compliment of sorts

  • Boy Greg Hawkes (keyboards) looks like hes about 12 years old in this video!

  • Yes "sagueguitar" Hahahahahahaha

  • Most of the music written today is driven by fear & anger

  • The RRHOF won't induct The Cars? Let them. The beauty of it is that for people like us in here who love The Cars WE know that they will forever be inshrined in not only our memories but our hearts. It's an outrage of leviathan proportions for The Cars not to be inducted. The bands they influenced and the stamp they put on Rock & Rock is inmeausurable. Don't worry Ben (Orr), we'l make sure The Cars tunes are forever played on the American landscape. The Cars...U.S. Rock legends.

  • At this point I am not sure I really want them in the RRHOF. Just as well to keep them away from that pop culture institution.

  • With you man. The Cars have done so much for the music industry, even for the little time they were around.

  • Well i know that in some states they are very well known

Its just that people i talk to never heard of them so i was like WHAT how can you not know them they are awesome

every1 has heard the song your just what i needed

  • I am curious. Who the hell are you talking to that never heard of the Cars? Either they are over 80 or under 15. It really is just that simple. One of the best trend setter bands in history. Please get new friends if they really don't know about this band. They can have little credibility.

  • they are crazy teens they are all about this generation

im always saying screw you guys lol

i am all about the 20th century

    some teens sre crazy

c'mon every1 has to like the cars

  • the cars are awesome but not well know that sucks but i they made more music vidz

  • LOL, the cars were not well known? Not sure where you came up with that. They were one of the best original bands of their time. They were quite well known (they did play the US festival in 83 which means they were pretty well known to even be invited there).

  • No kidding, The Cars' first album was absolutely huge. Making Candy O a highly anticipated follow up. Major rock n' roll players.

  • rockclimber has it right--cars were and are awesome

  • one album wonders ..my thebeau?candy o,shake it up,and even though it's not my bag heartbeat city was multiple platinum.learn your rock n' roll history.

  • Undoubtedly one of the best of all time. Under rated by many. Unjustly criticized by many. Just listen is all that is needed to feel the real enthusiasm that WAS THE CARS!!!!

  • way, way ahead of their time. this shit still holds up today with no problem. if you were thier in the late 70s you know just how good these guys were. great freaking songwriting and musicians. all the crap bands from today should take a look at vids like this and learn something about music and how its done. its an orangy sky, always its some other guy, its just a broken lullaby. well its such a wavy midnight and im going to slip into insane, peace all. rip ben.

  • @rockclimber14r

    Easton ROX .....better than Hendrix?

  • Agree with the comment about the Cars not being in the RHOF ! And heres an even bigger surprise......................neither is Kansas !

    RHOF......nothing but a joke !

  • Yeah...Well ..One Album wonders do not "usually" make the Hall..however..i think your quite right regarding Kansas and The Cars...Some Albums/Songs are so entwined into our lives that they indeed are HOF worthy!! Hug, Jenni, 16 from Chicago area ;)

  • Hi Jenni! I can't believe your only 16! My step-dauther is 17 and she hasn't a clue what great music is!!!

  • Ty 12Monkeys5...I just love retro and classic rock bands!! My grandfather was a rock promoter in the Chicago area and he turned me on to so many different bands and song that when I compare to what some of what is happening today in my era, it almost doesnt compare (dont get me wrong..this is ALOT of great stuff today) but for example..recently I heard a song entitled, "Hide In Your Shell" by Supertramp and like OMFG..i am SO blown away by that song!! Hugs, Jenni

  • fuck yeah supertramp

  • After living all these years and always listening to the cars I can't believe this is the first time i've seen them play live.

  • wow look at greg hawkes man he must work out .....

  • beef! all girth!

  • What a band!! I was shocked to find out there not in the RRHOF. It doesn't surprise me though, RRHOF is a joke. Bob Welch of Fleetwood Mac wasn't included when the Mac was inducted. What a joke. Sorry I got sidetracked on Fleetwood Mac, but it irritates me about the RRHOF

  • Rush isn't in the Hall of Fame either. That should tell you how arbitrary it is.

  • The Cars are bigger than the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. The R&R Hall of fame is a ponzi scheme of no small order until they induct The Cars.

  • And, The Stooges. But hell yes the cars should be there my God. RRHOF wake up already, you are bordering joke status. RIP Ben Orr. RIP Ron Asheton.

  • Joke status evident, Cars and Stooges not nec. Rock Roll Lobby of Fame is a "lobbyist project" at best, not be recogized by fans of groups who are not there

  • Brilliant song from an unforgettably unique band.

  • and so not like anyone before or since ... truly, truly unique approach and sound.

  • musicianship and showmanship. that's a lot of talent on that stage. holy smoke.

  • Awesome song....awesome album! Benjamin Orr had such a vocal talent. RIP Ben!

  • Awesome performance! But I think somebody should have woken up Ric Ocasek and let him know they were on camera.

  • Thanks Benny! another great video!!! :-)

  • one of the best scenes from musikladen IMO. thanks
