  • I have already seen you do a lot of techniques but never tapping...

  • Does anyone know where I can find a good bass player such as this in Los Angeles?

  • AND I'VE BEING PLAYING FOR 3 and a bit years (17 year old), so if you think this is amazing you don't deserve your bass. Just pick it up sell it on ebay, burn, whatever you shouldn't have it. Or you could become a bassist and learn the real ways... But if you choose none of the above you should continplate suicide

  • @trisjanthorogood Sir, I suggest you try googling "Dunning-Kruger effect"

  • THIS IS NOT A POST AGAINST THE MAKER THIS IS A POST AGAINST WOAH MY GOD THIS IS AMAZING RETARD>>>My god your all a bunch of fuck wits. It's not that hard to comprehend. I play bass, this isn't difficult. He's just mashed a few styles together, slap with thumb and pop + strummin (Like Victor wooten), classic slap and pop (like Lez Claypool) and a bit of machine gun, that's how you get the triplet effect but your really only hitting 2 notes it's a matter of slap note hammer on note than slap again

  • Sounds great,

    Greetings from israel

  • Jeg kunne da egentlig også være ret interesseret i et par lektioner hvis det er muligt at du kan finde et tidspunkt evt. i sommeren hvor man kan komme forbi og få måske en times undervisning :)?

  • HOT !! three fingers on the right and dont forget the up stroke with the thumb ^^

  • I would love to see this lick extended in the future DVD release! The strumming is fascinating. I wish you could explore and explain it in your dvd

  • this is what goes on in my head in maths lessons :P

  • ...maybe an electric guitar should play rhythm for your bass in this case. Great feel

  • awesome

  • Is that a Fender JazzBass with preamp on board?

  • this makes electric guitar look like shit!

  • watching this just makes me sick! I play almost all classical upright bass and thought I was pretty good, but your playing makes me look like a kindergartner. Are you also playing with more fingers than the thumb? I'm coming to Denmark in September, maybe I need some lessons!

  • @renatethomas Sure, just message me with your Denmark dates, im located in the center of Copenhagen

  • did you make up these bass riffs?

  • @mitch94560 Yes

  • @MarloweDK "compose" is a more appropriate term... ^^V

  • You sound like marcus miller

  • you so fuking good men---nice grove

  • u suck

  • Funky as hell!!!!!...U da man!!!!

  • This guy is Awesome! Thank you for your sharing of knowledge, it has helped my playing tremendously

  • How are you throwing those triplets in, like right around 0:08?

  • @UmphreysProwler its double plucking. youtube it you'll find explanations on how to do it.

  • @UmphreysProwler I could be wrong but I believe he is muting all the strings with his left and I think he is using his thumb to slap the "A" index to pluck the "D" and middle to pluck the "G" then he slaps the "G" with his thumb or plucks it with his index.

  • Not going to lie, but this video is significantly below the usual quality of MarloweDK.

The timing and feel just isn't there from around :40 -the end.

With that said, MarloweDK is still one of the most proficient players on YouTube.

  • Lol, true, but its an old video - nowadays i have an obligation to play tight on videos;-)

  • @GreenbergBass hey greenbooger u got nerve talkin about somebody else's playin. i watched ur vid and fell asleep. this was one the most influential vids i've seen in a while. thnks mDK

  • @mkonabike

Feedback should always be welcomed, whether it be positive or negative. I am sorry my video failed to please you, although most of what I have up was written for an album for people to relax too.

Also, someone's ability does not have any baring on their ability to evaluate. Ebert is a damn good film critic, but that doesn't mean he is good at making films.

At least we both agree that mDK is a great bassist.

  • i think the tone is one of the most impressive parts of this video

  • The lows sound great with that bass. rmtbc

  • 0:08

    Mind=blown.

  • How on earth do you do the little slap/pluck triplet things between seconds 8 and 9?? Please reply :)

  • Danish?

  • Ja det er han.

  • Nice :b - Det er da meget blæret :D

  • Det er det. ;-) Marlowe er den bedste!

  • Haha, yeah! :D

  • i guess it is double thumping

  • what technique are you using for the triple pop at 0.30 and 0.35?

  • actually it is double pluck (popping with fingers 1 and 2)

he does thumb - pop (index) - pop (middle)

    ^^

  • Good job! But this is exercise.

I'd like to hear you PLAY...

Guess I'll work through your vids...

  • just how many basses do you own?

  • Sounds A Lot Like The One On Your MySpace :)

  • you make it look sooo easy.. good job

  • Ohhh Yeaahhh...

  • sounds good man! keep it up.

  • nice

    x

  • evil geniusssssss!

  • I like your style, I am new to playing bass and I know that with practice I too can play like that.

  • funtastic

  • hmmmm funky jazz... sir Marlowe could you post a slowed down version of this slap bass... your post has really helped me a lot in my developement as a bassist...

  • I like his sound a lot. I'd like to know what he is playing and what he is playing through. im still working on those modified pops. This guy has it down very well though. great work!

  • marcus miller jazz through a korg px4d

  • i wonder how long gonna took me to became good as him?

  • great job

  • this is some good shit. nice groove im impressed

  • you're god!!! yeah lol.

  • That is tight, what if any modifications did you do to the bass.

  • are you strumming with the very tips of your fingers because it doesn't look like your hand position changes much from slapping to strumming

  • yea he is, it just looks subtle because hes a pro

  • great! cool rhythm!

  • Why is Dane Cook banging Jessica Alba and not this god of all that is baritone?

  • @shemhamforash999 lollllll

  • @shemhamforash999 Lol, for a second I thought you were asking why Dane Cook wasn't sleeping with Marlowe :)

  • It's the other half of the slap and pop style of playing. The thumb slaps down on the lower strings, and the middle or index finger 'pops' the higher strings by pulling them up/outwards and letting them snap back onto the frets.

  • Is it the twang when the string bounces back onto the fret after a strong thumb picking?

  • Wicked! Hey - i been playing guitar for 1.5 years (I'm still crap) and thought i better learn some bass too (so i dont confuse myself LOL) Anyway, what gives the "POP" sound. Sounds wicked, but I dunno what it is. Thanks

  • Nice Dude. Really Nice!

  • Great job man! I liked it!

  • A fener America 69 vintage p bass I assume? Nice funky tone.

  • LOL! A few comments earlier:

thats a marcus miller jazz bass

  • This is awesome.

    How did you record it?

  • hx:-)

    And regarding sound:

bass>korg pandoras box (headphone amp with effects and drummachine)>line input on macbook/built in webcam on macbook

Had to make a special cable from my headphone amp to split the output signal into 2 (headphone monitoring/output to computer)

  • dude, why aren't you really really famous?

  • never heard & seen anything funkier !

  • ohhh wow that bas is the sex

  • tight dude :D loves it

  • awsome stuff pure

  • thats a marcus miller jazz bass
