the new "300" is garbage - imho it is unthinkable to me how some people can distort a real historical fact to such a disgusting level. Someone really should read "History" by Herodotus. And Thucydides and Xenophon as well. I know at least several dumb fucks they use Xerox for Xerxes lol
In "Troy Rising" trilogy by John Ringo, a 10-kilometer wide asteroid is carved into battlestation "Thermopylae" and is controlled by AI designated "Leonidas" To protect outnumbered humanity from alien invaders. Just mentioning it because it is simply awesome homage to the actual historical event and fictional depictions of it.
@Romansssz It was more interesting for you. I watched that crap for 30 seconds and was sick and tired of it. For people without imagination and love for music and history that remake has been made. Old films are way more realistic and interesting. The same goes for Spartacus. Nobody can surpass Kirk Douglas.
@Romansssz Do you know Manos Hadjidakis? He was a great composer. His music sounds in this film. We grew up watching it! When we saw that remake, we were disgusted. Now most young people haven't even seen the 1962 film because of this crappy remake.
@Romansssz I'm not sure I can ever take seriously or like a film about a seminal historical event in the history of the western world that makes me hate the heroes and treats the entire thing like a crappy video game that I wouldn't buy
@HercegodSvetogSave I'm pretty sure you're supposed to read it as in "Oh shit, look out the fucking spartans are about to roll up on these bitchasses here dawg"
@micshaz I see lol guess my brain wasn't turned on back then, happens unusually often lately. most times it means I gotta get laid soon or risk system breakdown.
I ran The 300 Spartans as a new film during my time as a cinema projectionist and we all thought it was marvelous and really spectacular. It had clear CinemaScope and beautiful, bright colour and thousands of extras and was filmed in Greece on the actual locations of the story. On the other hand, 300 is all yellowy-brown, like most modern films, and overloaded with CGI because they can't afford thousands of extras any more. Films have gone down the pan compared to how they were 50 years ago.
The day the world faced communism, uh I mean "enslavement." Not that we don't owe the makeup of our current society to the eventual formation of Greece but the Persian Empire was known for letting conquered lands run as they saw fit, with the one caveat being paying taxes to the Empire.
@MaybeMasked yes true. But also the way the Spartans ACTUALLY were, was far more brutal than American audiences could handle. The new 300 is actually TAME compared to how it ACTUALLY was.
@TheHector2080 even the BOTH films are tame compared to how Spartans actually were, the old film was not based on a graphic novel. Also the old film is so much more exciting because they had REAL areas and EVERY person on screen was REAL and not CGI generated. The new film would have been better if the choreographers didn't use stupid filipino ideas in some of the moves.
I prefer the 1962 version because everything is real while the recent version all looks like a video game. The cinematography, scenery, and costumes of the 62 version looks
like your there with them.CGI is overused today nothing looks real anymore.
@reticulan5 Realism means better? Movies are an escape from reality, and to be honest the costumes don't seem too different. Another thing, the movie 300 was based upon Frank Millers Graphic novel of the same name, the whole point of the use of CGI was to replicate the novel's imagery, and over the top action. To make it clear, 300 isn't a remake of this film. It's over the top for a reason.
@MrDuckfiction Heck Yeah this one is better. The new one is pretty much complete CGI and I don't like that. It was annoying slow motion 90% of the time and way over the top stylish fighting.
@LuxxyLux1 No Spartiate would use a bow, but Perioikoi could and so could helots. Since they weren't Spartiates, they were not on the same social level. The bow was the unmanly weapon of a peasant. So, you're partially correct, but not completely.
To all motherfuckers who say this is nothing compared to 300, just for your own information, Frank Miller was inspired by this very movie to create his master piece of a book. Then came that epic movie we all remember. So thank this predecessor for giving us an epic movie before saying shit.
@kungfoolai That one "P'wns" this one because that one was filled with Green screens and spray painted abs along with a bunch of gore. This one took hard work to make.
This is real film of storic battle to the termopili, not "300". 300 is videogame.
