While I must say that I do not find Wicca or Paganism to be evil, I know of many Christians who find any religion that differs from their own to be evil. I have been studying Wicca and it's beliefs fit me better than any Christian based religion. To me the bible was just a book of stories, no different from any other book, and if Jesus was real, he was probably just a man, like any other man.
Fact is that "paganism" as it is used now is an extremely general term used for all non-major religions, and all dead religions. Probably because either the names of their religions is unknown or it's unreasonable to expect people to remember them. Frankly, I dislike the word "paganism" because it just leads to confusion.
@TKnightcrawler THANK YOU. Finally! some one who realizes I'm criticizing the "researcher" and not paganism. Making a video were you read word for word off of wikipedia is not research
Druids are said to be pagan and Druids seem to be a religion - we live near Anglesea a Druid stronghold - there are stone circles dotted all over the island - it's the place where they burned Romans in the time of Queen Budica - occasional they gather for handfastings (marriage) and mid summer / winter seasonal ceromonies - bit spooky but as an observer it looks like a religion or cult
@trevortrevortsr2 I never said the druids werent pagan or weren't a religion. I am not speaking against paganism in this video. Wicca is about 150 years old. I was criticizing the christian southern guy who claimed that he researched paganism and got everything wrong all his "facts" were off
@dmana3172 never said it was. I like satanism. I have a few readings from the satanic bible on my channel. You assume and infer too much just like an evangelical.
You completely missed the point of the video. The video was not against or for paganism
Christians may say what they want and what they believe and there's nothing wrong with that. However, it's wrong for them to lie about Paganism when they are not telling the truth about Paganism and their tradition, but from their propaganda that had led them to believe that they are of the devil. Even if it's of the devil and they were right, that doesn't make it right or wrong. There's nothing right and wrong about paganism or satanism.
@dmana3172 Okay but you missed the Point, I was not criticizing Paganism and as I said I like Satanism. I was criticizing the fool who said he researched Paganism and then began to read wikipedia word for word. I did not speak against Pagans and NEVER against Satanists.
@tacobell7500 I love researching anceint religions but what is called wiccan/druid/neo-pagan are modern religions started 150 years ago with little historical accuracy. I am going to do a video series on Mithras and semitic paganism they should be up within a month. I would love to get you input. It's too bad ancient eoropean pagan religion is not around today for us to study. please PM me any of your criticisms of this video but if they are few just post them as comments and we can talk. TY
Paganism is a religious movement that encompasses a large set of pre-Christian religions. Wicca is a Pagan religion, but it's a fairly new one that became more popular in the 1950s.
And I take offense when you say that Pagans want to be religious without studying anything. Since becoming a Pagan I have done much more studying than I did when I was a Christian or an Agnostic.
@VioletMermaidAngel13 THIS WAS SENT TO ME> Yep Wicca is protestant. The reconstructionists are trying to put together a new version of the old faiths, but mostly they are filled out with African religions or Kabbalah. It is a modern movement and you are correct they will never be able to re-connect the same way their ancestors did. It is now a new religion of ego. AND YOU ARE WRONG ALL POLYTHEISTS ARE PAGAN. PAGAN IS A GENRAL TERM
@JohnTheHutDweller A. Not everything sent to you is true, smart one. B. Where the hell are you getting your information? That hunk of shit you just told me? I'd be quicker to think that you got your information from Wikipedia rather than nightgardianangel.
Further, if all we know about Paganism comes from monotheism then what about all those pre-Christian texts that we have? Just from the Greco-Roman we have Hesiod, Homer, Sappho, Ovid, Juvenal, Orpheus, Aristotle, Plato, Epicurus, Julius Cesar, Augustus Cesar, Theocritus, Demosthenes, Cicero, Hippocrates, Herodotus, Horace, Xenophon, etc. I mean, we know more about the life of Alexander the Great than we do about Jesus.
@BlueFireWitch All of those works you mention only survived because Christians and muslims recopied them. The oldest copy of Ceasars commentaries is from AD1300 not to mention none of those works are about nordic/celtic paganism. The only people who wrote down the Norse Sagas lived hundreds of years after. LOOK AT BEOWULF IT IS CLEARLY CHRISTIANIZED. All of the old legends were christianized. Can you Name one pagan religious text that still survives today intact?
@JohnTheHutDweller That's simply not true. Many manuscripts were saved from the LIbrary of Alexandria including Ptolemy, Aristotle, etc. Beowulf is beside the point-different culture.
FYI, if you want to know what Wicca the religion is, look at the 13 Principles of Wiccan Belief. Although I'm not Wiccan, they describe the religion of Wicca. It's also legally a religion. Do you know there are several definitions of what religion is?
@BlueFireWitch Here is a message I recieved> Yep Wicca is protestant. The reconstructionists are trying to put together a new version of the old faiths, but mostly they are filled out with African religions or Kabbalah. It is a modern movement and you are correct they will never be able to re-connect the same way their ancestors did. It is now a new religion of ego
@JohnTheHutDweller A message you received? from whom? Anyone with a scholarly perspective? It really comes down to how you define re-connecting with ancestors or why that matters.
Also, making fun of someone's regional heritage is not cool. Also, I like how you make fun of him for mispronouncing Taoism, but you yourself are unsure of the pronunciation of Aleister Crowley. FYI, we can trace the modern resurgence of Paganism to the Renaissance-circa early 1300's not the Victorian Era like you suggested. If you understand what the term Renaissance means, you'd realize that it's undeniable.
Saying that Wicca is not a religion is like saying Christianity is not a religion. How do you think every religion began? People started practicing it.
P.S. I do not classify myself as Pagan, I call myself a Wiccan. I respect your point of view and I am not starting a fight with you, I am just voicing my opinion on one certain thing that you said at the beginning of your video.
@Casper16Catsin I don't think "Christianity" is a religion. "Christianity", "religion" and "pagan" are all useless words but I can not say the same thing about "Islam". Thank you for being respectful. My point was A: to show that the "Researcher" did not know what he was talking about and B: that wicca has no link to Ancient (Real)paganism. The pagans of the past were not tree huggers, They were Vikings, Huns, Mongols and Saxons
Many "pagan" religions today such as Wicca are these modern days reconstructions of ancient religions. But of course, people make changes to these religions to fit the current times.
@Justinfh2point0 I agree the Problem Is those modern day pagans really have no Idea what the Acient Pagans Practiced or believed. The bulk of what we think we know about pagans comes from Monotheistic Clergy
@JohnTheHutDweller Is it really fair to say that all modern day Pagans don't understand what the ancients practiced? I personally don't think so. While history is definitely not the focus of all Pagans (nor does it need to be) it's an overstatement to suggest that none of us understand the old religions. The bulk of what we know about Pagans comes from ancient texts, cave drawings, ancient artifacts, etc. If you are getting your information from monotheistic clergy, you need to look harder.
Religion in itself is neither good nor evil, it all has to do with what you do in the name of your religion. You're right, Paganism is just a term that's hard to define.
great video. I was called a pagan back in college. I never quite figured that one out. Off the topic of the video but I often wonder where the southern accent comes from in such people that actually live in the south.
