  • Watching this on SBS tonight... hope it's good! : D

  • i want to see it is it good?

  • Um. I didn't see a beretta anywhere.

  • hmm waste of gold lol

  • We Watched This At School! Retarted!

  • This movie was incredible, and I cant say enough about how much I enjoyed it (I suspect she slept with BOTH her sons! O.O There was something awefully tender going on with her and the second son. Because of this, I don't think that the other sons were her own. I don't know...the whole family dynamic was so unnaturalm. lol

    This movie was exceptional.

  • the trailer is okay, but it makes it look like the whole movie is just fighting, and its so much more than that....love this movie

  • I LOVE this Movie!!!! It's so scandelous though! Beautifully done

  • Hero and House of Flying Daggers are amazing, but I'm still not sure if I should get this one.

  • I've seen house of flying daggers, and this film is very good but I'd put them on equal standing and therefore recommend it, but its your choice.

  • Alright, thanks. I'll see if I can rent it first.

  • saw this movie.pretty good. Jay Chow is definitely a gifted singer,but I don't think he's a gifted actor.

  • I 100% agree

  • Wow, this was a kick ass movie, just saw it tonight for the first time, great man, great!

  • Amazing Movie~~~ XDDDD

    Gawd, it was just... WOW

  • AMAZING MOVIE

  • The best kung fu and action flicks ever made

  • this movie is so epic! a little too much gold though XD

  • The fact that she slept with her son in law, the Crown Prince, is an act of treason, but the Emperor would not proclaim that, because it would be humiliating for him and would mean also the execution of his son. Thus, he planned the slow poisoning of his wife.

Sorry for my english, but I hope I have helped somehow.

  • Thank you. :)

  • Thanks for the explanation, it clarified the movie for me. And you have no reason to apologise for your English! It's better than mine, and it's my first language.

  • @ck0611 I would think the Emperor's Wife would be punished by death considering the male dominated culture during that period, oh and your english is better then most American college kids.

  • Just to answer some of the questions posted here, he didn't marry her for love but for political reasons. If I'm not mistaken, I'm quite sure the Empress is the daughter of another King (probably of a land that bordered theirs). Therefore, he could not just execute her without giving some reason, as that could have been seen has a declaration of war.

  • People say im weird because they think that a 12 year old woouldnt really watch this movie but THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES IVE EVER SEEN!!!

  • --please don't read this if u haven't seen the movie u don't want to know the story b4 u watch the movie right?---

i watched it today, but i didn't understand what happened there, y did the king want to poison her? i mean even if she dies, the woman he loves is with another man, and then he sent ppl to kill her too.

all i was thinking at the end was, damn thats one dis-functional family.

  • @rhoghost you 're an idiot and if you do not understand the movie watch it again

basically he doesn't love her that is why he is poisoning her DUH.

And the entire point of the movie is to show how fucked up the succession was even though it is a fictional story only loosely based on any relevant historical happenings. SO to reiterate ( means repeat ) put that in there cause your an idiot

  • @lovecowboy(canadian) well dip shit, if he doesn't love her why the fuck did he marry her don't u get questions like that when u think don't u think at all? and even when she was having sex with his son y didn't he execute her directly? those were my questions for a reasonable person who knows a bit about the original Chinese story, not for a bloody retard like u, if u don't have any thing valuable to say for a reasonable question, don't say any thing at all.

  • @rhoghost i apologize for fighting on the internet i know its redundant but this imbecile cannot begin to grasp the intrigues of a court or understand that the character is an emperor and an absolute ruler if the mass scale of crazy did not hit him also why would he execute when he probably need whomever she was allied with or had control over learn about factions wiki it you may be able to understand these concepts one day and his son was getting l;aid what kind of dad stops that from happening

  • Just to answer the one question...love isn't required in a marriage; there's arranged marriages political alliances forged with marriages etc. Love has never been a requirement for marriage.I haven't seen the movie yet; so I can't comment on the rest.

  • I can't edit my post. :/ But even now-adays; in western societies, Love isn't a requirement. You get people marrying for money; not love etc. :: Never mind that now...this movie looks cool!

  • well, i agree, even in my culture in the olden days, a king had like a huuuuuge amount of women one was taken as the head princess, but if he doesn't like her, he could just let her go, or execute her, i just didn't see any reason for poisoning her in secret. i think its better to get the info from a chineese person directly, i still get the feeling that i have missed something in that movie don't u think?

  • It could be the movie thought it would be more dramatic; or it helped the story line. ;) ~ Whatever it is, I'm happy I get to watch this movie later today. *cheers*

  • @rhoghost

he married her becos he want to be the fucking king you moron.

  • really? wow ur soooo smart. heh

  • He married her because she is the daughter of an emperor, while he was not of royal decent. It was his only chance to become the emperor. He married her cuz of political reasons... not because of love. And since she is the daughter of an emperor, he can't do whatever he wants to her. She is of high social ranking, and that's why he has to "kill her in silence". Besides... I don't know if you noticed, but he was very found of his oldest son, and that's why he didn't want to execute him.

  • @Nitrofaction Was that the case of the first wife (ninja looking girl)?

  • @primalcutlery If you are refering to why he is so found of his oldest son, then yes. He loved his first wife (the ninja looking girl). He married her out of love, and he obviosuly loves the son he got from her more than the two sons he got from Empress Phoenix. However, he appears to be a somewhat disturbed or evil man. It's pretty clear that he loves his first wife, but the question is why he wants to kill her as well. I don't know. Maybe because of jealousy because she married some other guy?

  • @Nitrofaction I think it has allot to do with a society where men were and (sometimes i hear still are) valued more then women, so it gives them a god complex or something near that, especially old emperors, so he just could do whatever he wanted. i think that as a ruler he was portrayed as smart, but in the concfucist model, very disturbed. its hard to elaborate but power makes people very impulsive even when it comes to age old love.

  • this trailor dosnt do justice to the film. the film is amazing. iwish they had used some of the music from the film in the trailor. the music is creepy and v atmospheric but the music in this trailor makes it seem like just another american blockbuster action movie

  • i totally agree. the film was just so bittersweet and sad and touching.

  • this is one of the best movies ive ever seen

for real, i just love it *_*

    the fighting scenes were terrific

  • film: Hoàng Kim Giáp

  • He was? As who? One of her sons?

I saw this a year ago and the only reason I disliked it was because it was sooo depressing. There is no happiness in that movie whatsoever.

  • I saw this movie. It was nuts! i love watching it, though i feel sad everytime.

  • Chinese babes... (drooling).

  • This movie was good. But as someone who follows Chinese history and culture, this film bugged the hell out of me. If it's set in the Tang dynasty, then everything from the architecture to the clothing to the manner of seating were all wrong!

  • if you want to watch proper costumes and real chinese emperors then you should watch a series called beyond the realm of conscience. but its in cantonese not mandarin

  • his films are always twisted lol

but i end up understandin em in the end

    haha love him ^-^

    so creative

  • Wow, if it's the director from Hero and house of the flying dagger, this will be awesome!

  • sweeeeeett

  • The movies was AWESOME

  • Epic film.I also recommend The Banquet. Its so fucking good

  • this movie was INSANE!

  • whats the song?

  • which one?

  • my friend says thiss movie is better then kung fu hustle and he only saw half of this, is it true?Reply please

  • hell yea this movie is better than kung fu hustle... this movie will blow u away its crazy.. watch it on youtube ul like it

  • its soooo sweet watch i swear ull love it

  • I love the drama in this movie and the style. Iv'e seen it two times and I wish I could see it more but.. I don't own it. I usually just catch it on HBO. Awesome Movie!

  • If you're into Chinese movies, this one's an epic awesome one.

  • amazing movie

  • lol...dude.

  • 1 of the best movies ive ever seen. highly recommended!!!

  • So true!!!

  • This movie contains some of the most epic fighting scenes ever created by mankind.

  • Sum of the most breathtakin & gorgeously intricate background set designs ever in a film. So rich R the colors & exquisite details in this movie, that it requires multiple viewings just 2-B able 2 soak it all in. Then it will become obvious that the sets are not a distraction but an enhancement 2 the story. An enrichment that adds 2 the dialogue with an intensity that allows the ideas of what appears 2-B human pettiness behavior in a royal setting 2-B revealed as much grander in scope & concept.

  • And for a movie that can make someone as simple minded as myself come to a conclusion like that, that's definitely a statement to the power of it's artistry.

  • The plot is an adaptation of a classic drama called "Thunder Storm(雷雨in chinese)", so it would not be so suprising that it lacks things like plot twists which are common in movies.

BTW, the plot are set to take place not in Tang Dynasty but somewhat in-between Tang and Song, which the country is in chaos, so I personally would accept any "historical inaccuracy", after all it's chaotic...

One more thing, most Eng sub in DVDs are terrorable...

  • i can't believe they didn't mention jay chou's name in the tralier!

  • Visually, this is a stunning movie. But the plot and acting are not so good imo. And this has to be one of the least historical accurate movies I've seen. The palaces are Ming style but the clothing is sort of Tang style and the armour was nonexistant in Imperial China.

  • Looks like someone doesnt understand visual poetry & language, look at the signs in the armors/dresses/costumes, they are metaphores that complete the story

  • Really? I think it's a good movie! But when you said historically inaccurate, it reminded me The Scorpian King II, which REALLY sucked and was FAR from bing historically and mythogically[?] accurate!

  • PERFECTION AT ITS PERFECTION

  • this is a real good movie. its a bit freaky but very good.

  • Gong Li's got high cheekbones! =P

  • this movie was freakin awesome!

  • what year is the film set in?

  • 2006

  • lol yea

  • wth the the forbidden city didnt even exist during the tang dynasty..

oh well i love the cast :)

  • Hmmm nope the forbidden city didn't existed then, but Grand Emperial palaces did exist with every ruling Emperor :)

  • is it just me cos i like house of flying daggers, but after i watched this i thought iwas pure doo doo

  • this movie is soo good :D i wanan watch it again :]

  • Please help me.........

Whats the song called that play at 1:07

    Does anybody know???

  • Google the Curse of the Flower Soundtrack :-}

  • Pompeii by E.S. Posthumus.

  • ES Posthumus - Pompeii

  • this is a beautiful movie to watch especially on HD

  • that movue was depresing, and like everyone died, plus the youngest son was killed brutualy

  • That scene really freaked me out, you mean the one that was beaten with the belt? Yeah. Freaky film this was. It made me feel strange. Good though!

  • I bought the DVD yesterday ;D

    looking forward to watch it!

  • Just watched it, Not Bad.

  • I LOVED THIS MOVIE the storyline was well planned ^^ and it was VERY dramatic

  • bought this DVD instead of House of Flying Daggers today..hope i did the right choice!! anyway, imma try to get HOFD and Hero also.

  • wait... she had an affair with her step son? she just tried to kiss him.. and then he goes "MOTHER" ... and she goes "I'm not you mother, things can be changed if they have to!"

    how is that an affair?

  • the empress was an extraordinary actress. She made me want to cry. lol. I think my least favorite scene is when Chan is running out of the palace after the empress spills the beans about the mother not being dead... i felt so bad for her. she was running and screaming.. and then a scythe flies into her abdomen. Horrible.

The ninja scene is pretty awsome... how they all fly around like ghosts.

  • The song is called Pompeii by E.S. Posthumus.

  • nice, very nice....step mom fucks son, son fucks sister, than he is killed by his brother and that son is brutally pummeled to death by his dad, and than a fucking slaughter outside the pallace.....

  • whaahaha lol your right!!!

  • the step mom did the son??? i thought they alomst just kissed?

  • They were having a relationship while the father was out of town. He's not that much younger than her and they're technically not related so it's a bit less weird than him and his half sister! DX

  • amazing...

  • what's the name of the song in this trailer? i seem to hear it everywhere O_O

  • I was wondering the same thing. It's been haunting me for a while now.

  • so historically incorrect, but terribly entertaining.... great acting, love the plot not to mention the cinematography too beautiful for word, only 2 questions though, why does he hate her so much? and What with the cleavage?

  • He hated her so much because her father was too powerful

  • what is this movie about?

  • This movie is amazing. I just saw it last night, and was totally blown away by the cinematography. Too beautiful for words.

  • not true in chinese culture thats how the palaces where demonstrates power honestly dont spoil it for other people...

  • both movies are directed by the same person (zhang yimou)your dissin your own favorite movie so your the retard

  • This movie taught me a very valuable lesson.

  • And what's that?

  • Never have an affair with your stepson because everyone will die.

  • Or be sure the person you're secretly seeing isn't your half-brother/half-sister.

  • lol

  • I just watched this on TV and this movie was truly amazing and beautiful. It is definitely the best movie ever!

  • damn, i just saw this movie today (may 3rd) and it's one of the best movies i've seen so far

  • I like the older martial arts movies, like crouching tiger hidden dragon.

  • Man I love this movie. Its a really great movie and its made very good.

To all posting about how bad this movie is:

Well if i were you I would keep my mouth shut about how bad this movie is and how it sucks. Because I doubt that if someone gave you the opportunity to remake this movie, you would be able to do better.

  • I just realised where I've heard the music from the trailer before - the game plasma pong!!! Also, great movie!

  • whats the theme call in this trailer

  • ok dumb fuk the flying part is awsome

  • hmm this movie is great compared to the other chinesefighting movies, because they dont fly and walk on walls which makes it real..

  • WHAT CHOW YUN FAT IS IN THIS MOVIE?! but his looks so old

  • He's the emperor and Gong Li is his wife. Like a greek tragedy, only in chinese, because the conspiration, honor, secret (About the emperor and his first son) and betrayal is in the history

  • the movie looks pretty good. Jay Chou is soooo talented!!

but one thing, if it takes place in Tang dynasty, how come the trailer says "unspeakable secrets hidden within forbidden city"?

  • The ending is so sad because all the good people die and the bad people live!!, but the movie is soooo good!

  • i know. creepy ending. freaked me out.

  • Great film, not too fond of the ending though, but still, was great! xD

  • Just finished the movie on Blu-Ray and all I can say is WOW! Great job. The set and costumes alonemake it worth watching.

  • this movie is outstanding! very nice! well done!!!

good job by jay chou and gong li!!!

    two thumbs up!

  • sori ..accident hahha

  • i jst gt this film im watchin it 2morro it looks gud

    -overall, 2 thumbs up!!!

  • love this film its awsome!

  • This movie is AWESOME! I bought it a few days ago.

  • cool! cant wait to watch this movie tonight!!!

    ^^ ;)

  • this movie was alright, wasn't too bad to the point where you didn't want to watch it anymore.

  • I adore Zhang Yimou's movies, he's a genius movie maker and Gong Li is simply beautiful!

She also starred in his other movie Shangai triad and I loved it

  • yep you're right

  • wow!!!

  • lmao.

  • WOW!!!!!

  • lol, pompeii from 01:05

  • lol onimusha =)

  • i thought it might be from the director of

"HERO"... it seems like im going to watch that one too...

  • hello? jackie chan is not one of the stars here..asshole!

  • I watched that movie on China Airline, it's so good.

  • Hmmm... Nice trailer you've got it, I'd never seen it..
