  • My cat dribbles when he is happy

  • your cat is just weird thats all

  • OH! One of my cats did that when I used a typewriter that clicked really loudly! As I kept typing, he would jump up next to it, then proceed to do that tongue thing, salivate, and eventually gag, almost throwing up. For some reason loud clicking noises will make some cats feel like throwing up. I am not sure what the the mechanism actually is, or why they don't just run away if it bothers them, but that's what they're doing - gagging. Sometimes even throw up!

  • my cat boxes

  • It sounds like purring lmao. My cat only does this when hes really happy (like after we feed him too much). Im guessing your cat thinks that your purring...

  • What id love to know, is why were you stroking your comb with your cat?

  • your cat has sensitive ears, the sound of the comb vibrates the cats inner ear. have you ever cleaned out one of your ears with a q tip and you kinda feel it in your throught? its kinda the same thing but with sound

  • @Larry30NJ That's almost exactly what I wanted to say! :D

  • sounds like moths?

  • My cat does this when you pull celotape or scotch tape away from the reel, keeps me entertained for hours!

Must be the noise i presume.

  • My cat does that. She looks exactly like your cat too. I think it's normal, maybe hair from the comb is getting into her mouth, maybe she likes the sound or hates it or something....

  • Omg my catt does that! :P

  • Too much free time on your hands?

  • I have seen that phenomenon before too!

  • uhhm idk but when my mouse was dying in my hands she licked her lips and my nans cat was going through cancer she licked her lips im just saying idk if this is true

  • ur cat is gay then

  • (licking his chomps because he may think hes licking himself)

  • im pretty sure he reacts like that because to him it problebly sounds like what happens when he licks himself (because if u listen carefully it sound sorta like a comb, so hes problebly licking his chomps not knowing it because of the familiar sound

  • Simple answer, most cats are so inbred they're a little nuts. This gives them a unique personality, altho some are so "out there" that they're borderline psychotic, which can also be interesting.

yours is the nice kind of crazy, call it eccentric :)

btw, I like cats BECAUSE they're nuts and have a wide variety of personalities, not like dogs with their slave mentality. Dogs always want to please the master, cats don't give a damn as long as they get food and attention when *they* want it. lol

  • I think I know why he's doing that.

Okay. You know when you hear a sound you don't like (crushing a cotton puff beside your ears, nails on a chalkboard, etc) you feel a tingling sensation that seems to go down your spine and all through your body? And you cringe.

Well, When you do that to your comb, your cat is probably feeling that exact same thing, when he hears that sound, and he is doing that "cat's equivalent" on the human's cringe reaction.

    Just my guess.

  • when i scratch my cat under the mouth he take hes leg and he does like an automatic scratch my cat is a maincoon am i the only one ?

  • Possibly it triggers an infantile response, because it sounds vaguely purr-like?

  • shes horny, lmfao jk! Idk dude but thats hella funny!

  • Their tongues are comb like maybe?

  • once my cat sniffed a spider, he gagged hard and ran away... I think cats are just weirdos by nature!

  • I saw a video on America's Funniest Videos of a cat puking when a comb was stroked like this. The only explanation I can come up with is that the sound just irks them. Like nails on a chalkboard to us. While our reaction to being irked like that is getting chills up our spine and maybe cringing, they gag.

  • doing that appearently "turns him on" does he do the same when he is being brushed?

  • Perhaps stroking the comb sends a whole bunch of particles flying, and the cat can somehow feel/taste them and therefore starts licking? The way a wet comb sends off water drops when you stroke it.

  • A couple of my cats drool when being brushed, I imagine because it feels so good. I'd say he is involuntarily drooling, and then trying to lick it back into his mouth, in expectation of being brushed.

  • Well I've heard that when a dog licks their lips it is a sign of stress. It may be the same for cats. Maybe thats just what he/she does when he/she is comfortable. Well, it doesn't really seem like the cat is resisting to it anyway.

  • I need a comb now, haha. :3 If I poke my elbow out to one of my cats, he likes to bite on it. I love their weird quirks.

  • lolll like they said ... cats are weird ... my little cats like to hunt everything that move on my computer screen ... but when nothings move ... she looks behind the screen and she do a strange howl .... lolll it's very funny

  • Cats are WEIRD. I have (well HAD) 3. now I have 2... but anyway... one likes to obsessively "touch" the water in the water bowl and near makes love to the water in it for 45 minutes whenever we change it. (Daily.) My other cat Loves to "pace" and jump on and off our laps, and LICK the insides of our arms. Also loves to "flirt" with the broom and wants to be "pushed" by the broom across the room. Also likes to crawl under blankets. Cat 3 purposefully knocks items down from shelves.

  • i am so going to try this out on my kitten

  • why does a baby kicking relait to weird cat which is so cute

  • Silly puss :)

  • im gonna go try this! lol

  • yer cat's weird... lol

  • MY Cat Does That TOO!!!

  • when cats are kittens they do that when they are hungry and want milk from their mother, grown cats will do that when they feel comfort. your cat knows that when he hears that sound you are probably going to brush him and he knows brushing = comfort just like feeding = comfort. because he can connect those two he reacts the same way. ( this is they same if your cat needs your stomach when you are patting him/her)

  • I'm going to link you an advert i saw on tv (Spain) so you can figure it can sound similar to his tongue noise for him. Check your inbox ;)

  • @LemonScissors could you send it to me

  • @MissChikaRoRo okay, check your inbox. Did your cat do the same thing??? :O

  • @LemonScissors thanks and no but my may may has always been a little different cause she was hand reared like she plays fetch and holds the bowl when she drinks but she is cute anyways

  • I have a flea comb (even though my cats don't have fleas) and they appear out of nowhere when I run my finger over the tines. They love to be combed.

  • the frequency of the sound vibrates the bones in his inner ear in a way that causes a "sensation" in the back of the throat or roof of the mouth.

  • My cat does the same when you jingle coins!

  • Hes a snake

  • maybe.. creep?

  • Wat O.o

  • My sister does the same thing when I file me nails or run a file across stuff.

  • That was cool! Now Im gonna have to see what my cats will do.

  • when i do that my cat rushes over to the comb/brush and starts rubbing her head against it lol

  • me cat does that when i scratch my leg or brush my hair

  • My cat does not do that

  • Cats are universal. They all sleep on the stairs, they all throw up in high traffic areas, pin you under your covers in the morning, lay on your taxes instead of the rug, sit in your lap before you get up, only want your diner when youre trying to eat it, watch in disbelief as flies slam into the window, only come up the stairs when youre on your way down, dont always walk across your lap but when they do they make sure to step on your genetals.

If one does it, they all do it...

  • @MisterLEM0NS There is no like button on your comment for some reason, so I will tell you that I like your comment and to tell you that I agree.....

  • @MisterLEM0NS i cant thumb up your comment but i agree and lol

  • Your cat reminds me of Melanie Griffith. They don't call them sex kittens for no reason.

  • maybe it reminds him of a mouse hehe

  • Maybe it sounds like purring to him or her

  • This is easy to explain: Cats are weird. I know that sounds like a lame explanation but it's honest. I've had cats all my life and they all do their own weird thing and they do just because they're cats, lol.

  • Sometimes cats react to sounds. My cat jerks her head when I make kissing sounds.

  • my buddy throws up when you rub two pieces of construction paper together.

  • @bunny08able LOL WTF?

  • @bunny08able hahahaha really?

  • Animals have weird reactions to the most random things. The sound of a lighter flicking drives my brother's dog nuts, she'll start running around and barking.

  • i think some kind of abuse is going on

  • havent seen this reaction to a comb before but they can develop certain attitude towards sounds.

BTW, thats a cute tabi cat you have.

  • My cat doea this we do that to hush them up during a bad attitude strike

  • i do that when i get hungry

  • mmy cat does tht whe i scratch him it means they like it and theyre showing they want it more

  • When my cats hear the sound of a brush or comb, they come running at me and start rubbing all over it. Its definitely because they want grooming (or just attention, silly boys); maybe your cat does the licky thing to gain your attention for grooming? :)

  • Oh! My cat does that when she hears a slinky being played with. She also sounds like she's about to throw up.

  • @themortarandpestle my cat used to do the same with a slinky- start gagging. we thought it was funny, but i kind of feel bad for putting her through it so many times for my own amusement.

  • @ashesbrody OMG Mine too! I don't know what it was about a slinky, but when I stretched it out in front of her face she would stick her tongue out so far that she would gag. It never seemed to bother her -- like she wouldn't leave or anything -- it was like some sort of involuntary reaction! I've never heard of anyone else's cat doing that!!

  • its like when cats have an addiction to licking plastic bags for no reason. they are weird. It hink it is the sound waves from the sound that makes the cat do that.

  • kinda!

  • yep my cat used to do that! but more like a gaging dry reaching reaction, thought it kinda resembled a humans reaction to someone scratching nails down a black board..i obviously stopped lol

  • A book about cats I read a long time ago said something to the effect of, "They are irritated by the sound, but they can't ignore it."

I have absolutely no idea what the person who wrote that sentence, *or* the editor who read it and didn't go, "That does not make one particle of sense. I'm crossing this group of words out of the manuscript because they're a waste of ink and paper," were smoking, but I'll bet it cost more than four hundred bucks an ounce.

  • @zEropoint68 Four hundred bucks' worth of smoke or not, that's no excuse for publishing drivel.

  • yes they do that XD

  • My cat get scared and puffy when I do that with a comb.... its weird.

  • he's licking the skin particles that are raining down on him. does he still do it if the comb is not near his face?

  • When I wrinkle a chip bag my cats ears twitch and her eyes get bigger. It has nothing to do with the video but it is a weird thing my cat does.

  • His/her whiskers may resonate at the frequency of this sound and therefore they vibrate as you stroke the comb. So the cat is scratching, because his face itches. If you ever touched yout teeth to a sounding pitchfork, you might have experienced this gigling :)

  • possily likin his snot

  • He just doesn't like the noise it makes.

  • actually cats rub their faces against object, pointed objects=faves, because they have scent glands in their cheeks and forehead and rubbing them& applying pressure stimulates& helps them to work properly & it feels good, it has absolutely nothing to do with their teeth nor does chewing on a brush help their teeth, as for licking the air a lot of cats will "lick" in response to stimuli, your cat is reminded of how good the comb feels when being brushed & "licks" or enjoys the sound of the comb.

  • when the cat rubs against a comb or brush it makes the same noise and when they rub against it they are working their mouths and tongue and stuff thats probably the reason why your cat does that. My cat used to love rubbing on her brush and would bite it a little and just rub and rub-- it was excellent for her teeth, her whole life she only lost 1 tooth i think (vet mightve took one during a cleaning-cant remember for sure) but the rest she kept and she lived to 21 years old :) i miss her

  • @kb3tlr 21 years?!!! it's so wonderful! I hope my cat lives that long. He is 12yo. I love him so much!

  • My cat did this is a jangled my keys in front of her! I think the sound just tickles their ears?

  • lol i have to try that with my catXD

  • ...maybe the vibrations tickle his tongue? =^.~=

  • he must thing combs taste good X3

  • my cat does that

  • I'm sorry, but I'm afraid to inform you that your cat... is retarded. 8P

  • @Jameslikespudding mmmmmmmmmmmmmmhmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • @Jameslikespudding -your retarded!

  • lol! cats r super funny animals

  • he likes the sound

  • Super funny! My cat does something funny too. Check out my video...

  • woow

  • try with a tape or adesive tape,

  • your cat looks cool.

  • Your cat probably thinks it's the sound of his/her mother purring when it was nursing as a kitten and instinctually licks... I dunno it's a fucking cat.

  • The sound is very high pitch, it makes your jaw spasm.

  • well, only explanation i can think of is he senses the vibration in his whiskers and licks at his face to drown it out cause it tickles, kinda like S3P55210's cat except it had a different coping mechanism of it's own, i tried it with my cat and all he does is rub his cheeks to the floor, when i tried touchin his face while i flickered the comb the side of his face tensed up and he presses into my hand, soo thats how i got my theory

  • i tried it with 1 of my cats, i have 3, but i cudnt find the other 2 >_> but he just looked away from the comb and blinked and turned his head further away from the comb but wen the noise stopped he stopped blinking and wud look at me

  • your cat is retarded!

  • @badralAnsari u sikko cats r different!!!

  • One of my cats does that with nail files..Every time my mother files her nails, the cat looks like that or looks like he's about to heave..

  • I have to try this! ^^

  • I couldn't stop licking too!

  • I get mesmerised by the sound of that too!!

  • maybe cuz it sounds like nails on a chalkboard for a cat, remeber that they hear ten times louder than we do!!

  • Hey, I saw your video and tryed it with my cat, she did this to which amazed me! My dad reckons it's the same sound that flee's make but i dont know why they lick and stuff .You can create the same effect by clicking your fingernails together behind their ears! :)

  • the brush reminds him of food.

  • my cat does that, its related to brith if they had a wild/stary cat closely related then that expains it cuz its close to the sound of a birds wings,a plastic bag cruplig, sound of food bein poured, etc dont worry cuz my cat does it to and he was born to a wild father and hes wild as heck like he is a tiger on catnip

  • Humans have compulsive acts and ticks. Wouldn't be TOO surprising if a kitty did too :)

  • It's because it's so close to his face, his whiskers pick up the vibration and it's tantamount to someone touching his face to him, so he has a natural response. Cats whiskers are very sensitive.

  • Cute. Have you ever asked a vet?

  • Why are half the suggestions pregnancy videos?

  • Am I deaf?

  • @kari00ws6 LOL!!

  • my cat does and shes evil

  • uhm something about this sound reminds him of food? just a guess.

  • Perhaps the sound to him is like nails on a chalk board to us? Cats are just the most magical and whimsical creatures that God ever put on this earth, so I think that we should take them as they are and just love the stuffing out of them!!!!

  • your cat does that because it sends sound waves into his/her ear drums and vibrates them causing the cat to spasem

  • my cat does it because he thinks he's going to get a brushing; and he likes to run the comb over his gums.

  • my cat does dat if he hears a bag being crumbled

  • my cat does that

  • i liek that sound too

  • when there r certain sounds or vibrations that will cause the tingling/numb feeling in the teeth or gums. thats what this cat is experiancing.

  • Maybe he thinks it sounds like a type of purr.

  • maybe something in the brains :D doesnt look like hes bothered by it xD

  • ive never tried that but i'll get back to you

  • you know what my dog does that it is crazy.

  • you know what my dog does that it is crazy

  • My cat dose something like that, When i scratch a comb he runs towards me and licks me.....

  • he probably gets like an eerie feeling..

  • it problably does that because the comb sounds like a purring cat, thats just my opinion anyway.

  • Maybe your cat has synesthesia

  • may be the noise annoys him like if you scratch a chalk baord dosnt that annoy you

  • @Emmalina: the noise ye make iz the same a mommah-cat does when calling dah kiddies for food... the noise makes yer cat drool^^

  • no you just have a weird cat

  • it's probebly got shivers

  • When we hold something edible infront of our kitten, or eat something right infront of her, she tilts her head, 90 degrees, and starts licking in the air!! She doesn´t reach for it just scrinches her eyes, tilts her head and licks in the air. ADORABLE! They all have their personality quorks ;D

  • yuppp! doing that rightt now! :P

  • Maybe it's like fingernails on a black chalkboard to your kitty. Hurts it's teeth.

  • you should check out wikihow and type Communicate-with-Your-Cat

  • a cats tongue's flick out slightly and licks lower lip: it's Worried, or apprehensive

  • Tormenting ...... poor ol cat

  • my cat does aparently it thinks its the catfood bag or some other cat or something. Super cute anyway!

  • mine does

  • IT WANTS TO EAT YOU!!!!

  • well-my cat loves to chew on the comb, so let him/her try that

  • The cat thinks it's throwing up.

  • mine does

  • My bro in laws dog always does that when you scratch his butt...

  • Maybe the sound of the comb makes your cat feel ticklish ( at its ear ) . I think it is the same when we hears some metal object falls TOO CLOSE to our ear o.o

  • mine does

  • Its because for some reason the sounds reminds your cat of food. So the cat is actually salivating while liking its lips….its waiting for the food! ^_^

  • i tried it with my cat. I dont think he liked it. He just stared at me, like really stared. It was kind of creepy so i stopped.

  • my cat does this sometimes except she does a gagging reflex to the sound of my phone vibratings. it because their ear hairs are highly sensitive to certain noises and can intensify certain nerves. this one being ur kittys tongue reflex which i think is sooo cute! my cat makes a gross gag thing :P

  • @flubberywhale :D lol my cat only freaks out to new noises like if i make a weird noise he starts to freak

  • I seen another video of a cat doing that same exact thing, but the person was shuffling a deck of cards. The noises are similar.

  • Interesting. Their hearing is very sensitive and maybe the sound and/or vibration of the comb is sending shivers down his spine.

  • my cat fakes that he's gonna throw up but he never actually does. its weird but it happens every time.

  • well thats a first for me. i know a can who love an electronic face massager. some cats are just wierd. thats why we love them

  • My cat just stares at me like "What the crap are you doing, crazy woman?'

  • how cute, but idk why it does that. Just probably that one thing that makes your cat unique and different from the rest.

  • Cat: "me gusta"

  • LOL cute and stuff but I think cause it likes the sound and cause it makes them relax? :D?

  • my cat tries to kill the comb!

  • My cat likes to lick her toung when i kiss her, maybee she likes the sound. And maybee cats like thier toung when they feel loved, or in a safe environment. But im not really sure why

  • Well...we've never tried the comb thing so not sure if ours would even respond lol.

  • My cat just stares at the comb
