cool song, and some pretty good tone out of that thing. how do you like that RGD? i want a 7-string soon but i can't decide between the RG Premium or the RGD Prestige... are the pickups in yours good or do they NEED replacing? what are their tonal characteristics?
I bought one today and play it on the mesa cabinet 4 x 12. It is freakin awesome! Even without the Maxon 808! So heavy brutal and loud and so clear. you can hear every note. Love it! Will have it for maaany years
Nice tone man. Hey how do you rate the blackouts? I have an ESP horizon 7 with emg 707 that I want to swap out. I have a horizon 6 string with Seymour Duncan 59 that I love so am trying to get the same tone from the 7. Thanks
@cannibalcorpse360 If you have Mark V money and can justify it, get it. If not, the Dual Recto is pretty much the standard in metal (and deathcore) so save a bit of money and find a good second hand one if you don't think you need all of the bells and whistles on a Mark V.
$50 to whomever can PROPERLY and completely tab this song (using guitar pro/tux guitar etc or even put it in a PDF file). Ola, you're welcome to the $50 as well!
@bitchniggerization I didn't see the very beginning of the video so I wasn't basing it on looks, just sound. An invader is a pretty hot pick-up even for a passive, so I wouldn't say it's hard to mistake it for an active sound.
gah it's a shame there is a little messed up bit in the sound at 2:59 it a madsic bend but it goes.... "wwAAAHHH CHHHgrfifgyfiHHHHH AAAhhhh" right at the start of the solo >:( either way it's a madsicbrutal vid :D please keep your videos coming!
Nice smooth sound, and playing as well. I too use a triple recto with a maxon od808 after a modded rat pedal, mesa steel screen 4x12 and jackson w/emgs. When fully cranked, the over drive will drown out just about anything.
i am truly impressed by the sound of the mesa, especially with that particular 7 string. very clear and not as muddy as i thought it was going to be! stock pickups? and what year is your head from? is it a modern rectifier or one from the early days?
Nice one ! Very nice groove dude, why did you sell the RGA7 ? I´m thinking about buying it, but I´m afraid that it will go out of tune, I use heavier gauge strings on the bottom on my 6 string(it´s the Zakk Wylde 10-60 set), and on some guitars they go out of tune...
Nice song, it rocks totally! would you recommend this 7 string guitar? I was looking this guitar and another, Esp Ltd sc-207, both 7 string guitars and both has no active mics. this costs 100 euro's more but friends told me that ibanez's 7 & 8 string necks are very good to play.
This song reminds me of Seasons in The Abyss by this band called Slayer. Anyway, I recently got one of the 3 channel rectumfriers with the raw/ vintage/ modern modes. Played on one yet? I wouldn't mind some setting ideas.
@TheBatnan It's a Recto, nothing else comes close to the testicular fortitude of a recto. It'll be bassy, but a boost in front, very low bass, some treble, and although 80's metal was very scooped, add in some mids and you will get a great sound.
Do you have the maxon od808? If not, get the fuuuuuuuuuck at it cause honestly, until mine came in today, my mesa sounded like a fucking garbage can compared to the new tone I'm getting from the od808.
While you're at it, get the ISP noise decimator G string (make sure its G string for gods sake) and you will have the BEST metal tone of your LIFE. OD808=killer tight heavy tone but noisy ISP DECIMATOR=KILLS ALL ALL ALL THE NOISE WITHOUT CHANGING YOUR FUCKING TONE W000000000000000T
Yo man I need help choosing a good 7 string for some fast shredding/metal. my budgets around 600$ can you tell me what the best choice would be? specifically? Thanks man.
for the longest time i stayed away from the rectifier cause i could never get a great sound out of it ://. but man u make it sound fucken brootal dude holy fuck! can you tell me where u set the knobs to so if i play a recto soon i can get this same brootal sound lol? thanks ola!

I would LOVE to hear raw takes of your amps WITHOUT pre and/or post EQ (or any other kind of process), in order to hear your real 'naked 'tone .I allways enjoy watching your videos, keep it up man!
Hey man, I've owned a line 6 spider 4 75W and when I was playing it, my main tone (metal tone) was on the recitfier setting (the red LED metal channel) and I was wondering, is the mark v better than the dual recitifer?
Hi Ola, thanks for your great vids! This video and the Metal / Rock Win! one convinced me to get a Dual Recto and now I love it to bits!
I'll probably never reach your level of playing technique (your picking is amazing!) and composition, but you really helped me finding the tone I always wanted to have. Thanks heaps!
Its too bad Jeff and Van left Nevermore. This song sounds like it could be a cross between This Godless Endeavor and Obsidian Conpsiracy.....like a NEW album that would sound amazing! Ola and Jeff for the NEW nevermore.
@TheGreensuperman I have an RGD7321 and a 6505+, it sounds great on the Crunch mode of the Rhythm channel, the pickups in it kinda hit the Lead channel too hard and make the extra gain a bit buzzy, same has a hard time cleaning up on the actual Clean channel, as well. No idea how actives would sound.
Are you a nevermore fan, some of your riffs sounds a little bit like nevermore, not the riffs itself but the mood you put in your song. BTW its very good!!
Hey Ola,Thanks for all your videos-its really great.I have a question for you, because i am very lost to choose a good amplifier and i can see that you have tryed many of those?Did you ever tryed a Mesa Triaxis?I am asking because i have a rack gear, its Engl E530 preamp and Engl amp 2x50 wats,Guitar rgd2127z but i really like Rectifier sound and i still want keap my gear in rack? Its possibile or should i buy a Rectifier? Thanks for your help and good luck for your great music.

@BizarroStu thanks man i will in the future ,because i just bought a Mesa Triaxis, its really great preamp that can kick ass,you can really have many big sounds of it
Hey Ola, can you comment on how you like the 2 channel triple rectifier and the 3 channel dual? I have the 2 channel triple rectifier right now and I was thinking would making the switch to 3 channel dual (for that extra channel) be worth it? Or is the tone going to suffer?
Hey mate, i have a question. Is the Ibanez RGA7 a good choice to be my first 7 strings? I was looking it and it looks awesome, but the pick ups... Send me your opinion please Ola! Cheers.
@QuickAndDirtyRecords i have both a mark V and i dual recto (the older, better sounding one) and the mark V blows it out of the water, just my 2 cents though
after a while, i realized that you CANT get the perfect tone, before u tell me that im nuts, i have tried mesa boogies, engls, framus cobra, h&k, marshalls, kranks, peavey 6505, egnaterand lots of more. every amp got its own tone, maybe if you combine the crunch and the chugga chugga from a krank, with the tight bottom end of an engl, and the spark from a framus cobra u would get the perfect tone, MAYBE, every amp is lack of something
@Dfiend92 why not???? FREE AMPS AND YOUR SAYING NO? thats bizarre man, and yes you are correct, im wating on my very first tube amp to be fixed before i buy it, and its actually a dual rectifier.
Man this is AWESOME!!! :D :D Great playin great music great TONE! Especially the RGA with arched mahogany body! I just love ibanez guitars... But I got to admit, the RGD does not sound so good as the RGA does... :( But at least there is a video of these 2 guitars on YTube with not just decent, but KILLER, AWESOME, EPIC sound! :D :D
Ur metal videos are the best,
I hate when somebody review a Dual Rectifier with stratocaster S/S/S and start to play blues stuff, come on man, is a head to kick asses..

Ola, I bought a 3/4 year old 3 channel dual recto yesterday, and I'm finding that its really bassy compared to my DSL50.
I'm using passive pickups, with the bridge pickup and the tone on full treble.
To get a usable 80's metal rhythm sound, I have to crank the treble on channel 2 to near full, and almost no bass.
Is it supposed to be like that?
TheBatnan 4 months ago
@TheBatnan It's a Recto, nothing else comes close to the testicular fortitude of a recto. It'll be bassy, but a boost in front, very low bass, some treble, and although 80's metal was very scooped, add in some mids and you will get a great sound.

Cheers.

so, i'm on the fence. the dual rectifier or the mark V. also, i'd rather stick with amp distortion.
QuickAndDirtyRecords 7 months ago
@QuickAndDirtyRecords i have both a mark V and i dual recto (the older, better sounding one) and the mark V blows it out of the water, just my 2 cents though
guitarnick914 7 months ago
@QuickAndDirtyRecords The Mark is brighter, tighter, and more fluid-like, but putting an OD in front of the Recto does fucking wonders.

That tone is delicious

after a while, i realized that you CANT get the perfect tone, before u tell me that im nuts, i have tried mesa boogies, engls, framus cobra, h&k, marshalls, kranks, peavey 6505, egnaterand lots of more. every amp got its own tone, maybe if you combine the crunch and the chugga chugga from a krank, with the tight bottom end of an engl, and the spark from a framus cobra u would get the perfect tone, MAYBE, every amp is lack of something

@Dfiend92 honestly couldnt agree with you anymore. maybe if you get an endorsment thatll solve your problem though lol
crazylocoguitar 7 months ago
@crazylocoguitar have you ever own a tube amp? i dont think so. and i dont want endorsment...
Dfiend92 7 months ago
@Dfiend92 why not???? FREE AMPS AND YOUR SAYING NO? thats bizarre man, and yes you are correct, im wating on my very first tube amp to be fixed before i buy it, and its actually a dual rectifier.

why all the metal guitarrist uses a tube screamer???
ILikeToPlayGuitarToo 7 months ago
@ILikeToPlayGuitarToo it tightens up the amps distortion, it makes it more punchy and clear, more sustain also. Smoothness.....
