I just showed this to my son and he doesn't remember watching it with me....I sure remember and actually liked it......it's a shame they don't make cartoons like this anymore.....
Is the other movie with the littles on here? The one where Henry has to go and stay with a mean uncle and he plans on tearing down his house and putting a mall or something on the land. I don't remember much from the movie just that Tom and Lucy hide in his suitcase and a scene where Tom falls in a jar of honey.
You know it is kind of neat, my dad immigrated to New York City from England in 1986, the same year as the statue's anniversary and the airing of this special. I love the Littles and it is a treat to see this episode! I never saw this one in the reruns. Lovely to see a special. This cartoon is quite underrated. I know this was aimed toward smaller children but at the same time, it can keep a big boy's interest! The animation in this is quite well done too!
@VinylLad This was made when animation was still produced mainly in Japan, before the early outsourcing-to-Korea days and long before Flash cluttered up our screens. These were done with pencil sketches, not Mac workstations!
@bancoran I really can not stand Flash animation. In fact, I want to make my own cartoon series that is in the style of 1980s Dic animation. I just love how detailed and beautiful it is. For a television budget cartoon, the quality is just AMAZING. Ever see the full series other than the special?
@VinylLad The series, and the movie. Unfortunately, the DVD release has some edits in it. I want to find a copy of the VHS as a high quality rental and the DVD so I can rip my own copy of both and splice them together.
@bentoast99 I noticed that too the first time watching this special. They also use Dr. Hunter's theme music from the series as the music theme for the Villian in this special.
@videogamester07 And Dinky calls him "Grandpa?" And all of these tiny people are Littles, but not all of them are named Little, and the tailless Forest Tinies, where do they come from? And and and...(head implodes)
I never understood why Grandpa was always busting on Dinky and calling him an idiot. We've seen Dinky build working rubber band planes, balloon cars, and later a gas-powered sodacan car and an electric powered plane! The guy was a genius! Let's see you build a sweet hoopty, Grandpa!
This show kinda reminds me of "Heathcliff and the Catillac Cats," another cartoon DiC produced aroung the same time as they did with "The Littles." The music and animation are similar within each other.

@PieFights Launchpad was probably based on him.

@PieFights I said the same thing when I first saw Duck Tales "Launchpad just Dinky with a beak!" ;P

Grandpa Little looks somebody who spends too much time sitting on the toilet. He always looks constipated.

@bancoran Yea he's smart but a bit of a jinx,and he's terrible pilot!

@bancoran Yeah, I guess Dinky was like Phinneas Fogg, a genius at inventing but a bit of a klutz.
VinylLad 1 year ago
@VinylLad Who knows what he could do if he were less klutzy and more focused...like cold fusion in a soup can?

@bancoran And that plane isn't even aerodynamic! Either he's an Ork...or he's Haruhi...

Dinky was married in the original book series, not the animated version. And he was a lot more competent.
