lol ''prune juice honey!'' I thought you were going to say root bear or something like that. Thanks for the veggie recipes! I'm making this for lunch in a wrap for my lunch next week!!
You should try out for The Next Food Network Star! You are better than most of them on there. You have inspired me - I am going to invest in a video camera and get a friend to help me start a show.
@skottmalaise1 Wow, thank you so much for the encouragement. And I'm glad you're going to start your show soon. I love seeing different ways to prepare some of the classic dishes :)
Yummmm.....them hummus wraps looked mighty tasty dear Carolyn, as for the snacks, well, your momma knew best what to have for her younguns! Thumbs up to ya beautiful and thankin' ya for sharin' these cool snacks,...especially the prune juice popsicles,...hehehehe! =D
I've been buying hummus for the past couple years cos I love eating that with Pita chip or even with veggies. I will make some of my own now thanks to you Carolyn!! And I absolutely loved the stories from your childhood, your mom sounds so wonderful and so so sensible. These days people look to fast food and junk to fill up their kids cos they don't have time to cook. We need more healthy options to balance our other choices. Thank you for showing us such simple healthy ideas as well!
Thanks for the hummus recipe... I'll have to give it a try. I was talking with friends on facebook about hummus and how I didn't like the Athenos brand and suggested I make my own. So I've been looking for hummus recipes... then you came along... I'll give your recipe a try first!!!
@LRoss1069 Great thanks so much! I also make one flavored with a little pesto...Pesto Hummus!! All of the same steps just add some ready made pesto at the end like I did the eggplant. :)
Never had hummus nor eggplant ...it looks scary LOL! - That's a good idea to have all of those fresh snacks for kids. I don't have any kids, but I'm taking ideas for the future lol. Your mom was ON IT! Wow! Very refreshing to see different types of homemade snacks. Thanks for sharing..
@Shyloh8 Guuuurrrrl, don't be afraid try it! I absolutely love eggplant in a lot of different ways. And yeah my mom was no joke about her babies being "clean" ya know LOL!
Your mom is cool! She reminds me of my grannies. I would not have guessed prune juice. I thought horehounds! Horehound candy was sold at Knott's Berry Farm. It is a lump of hard candy that tastes like a strong iced tea, dark brown in color, yet still sweet.
BTW, that lavash sounds fantastic. I have never heard of it before!
really really great recipes. i've always wanted to try hummus, but didn't know exactly what it was. it doesn't look that great but the flavors in it sound good. your doesn't look as muddy as others i've seen in grocery stores.
@VanMarq89 Aaaww, well I'm glad you're willing to give it a try now. Trust me homemade is better and you can season it and bulk it up ANY way you want! Thanks :)
Had to ask my mom about the Scotts Emulsion. She grew up in Mississippi and knew all about it. From her facial expression, I'm soooooo glad I never had to take it! Anyway, thanks for all the helpful recipes and snack ideas!
