ah the one who produced this video i should put it under a different name cuz everyone things this is the dutch commando special forces training also named eco
The best thing to do is to start with FGASA level 1 (one month), which you can do in either one of the ecotraining camps. And once you're there, get yourself informed how to go from there. There's something like a one-year program; costs a bit, but if you want to gain enough knowledge and experience it's the right thing to do.
This is fantastic! I used to work as a guide in the Mu Koh Ang Thong marine national park in Thailand. It was the best job I ever had. I'd love to work in an African nature reserve one day!
Would you know if it is at all possible for a non-ZA citizen to find employment as a guide in a reserve or national park? How fierce is the job competition?
It definitely is great! I did the course 1.5 month ago and it's really worth it. I did it at Karongwe camp; there are 3 ecotraining camps. About becoming a guide as a foreigner: it is definitely possible, but competition is harsh. Because employement rates in SA are so low, SA-citizens have more chance of getting hired; it's only fair. Secondly, many lodges prefer guides that are born and raised in SA. But again, it's not impossible. You won't be the 1st foreigner to become a fuild guide in SA.
