A few of the facts are still debated by historians to this day, however this video was AWESOME. Just amazing work bringing that battle back to life. Although it took about 6 hrs in real life, 10 minutes and doing it on the game is more practical. But this was just epic. Good camera angles, excellent theater, precise display of actual battle tactics, and good music to go along. When I graduate college next spring I'm buying computer that can play this game :).
Sorry to correct you but most modern historians have agreed that Hannibal's army was around 46,000 infantry (40,000 heavy, 6,000 light) and 10,000 cavalry.
@TheDarkFrontier it depends witch historians you go with on hannibals army most ive gotta go with the historions who state that it was 40000 light and 6000 heavy/ his libyens as more than half the bulk of his army were spanish mercerneys witch only woar light armour and a smalll shield with a curved sword
yes u are right. Remeber also that the cavarly (numidian in particullary) was the precious part of cartaginian army.
Yes i think that Cannae is one of the bloodiest battles in history. 80k men died in only one days....it is impressive that roman state survived at this defeat. Hannibal was the greatest general in history, better even of Alexander the Great for me. :-)
Of course Rome lost battles, so has every Empire but Rome always bounced back from defeats. Romes demise was due to internal rot more than military defeats. In my opinion the Roman Empire had the most conflicts and enemys of any Empire in history and i am amazed it lasted as long as it did.
Joe Mozzi and Mike Warren, Bravo for this masterful depiction of the battle. Your eye for tactical realism and formation flexation shows you see past the geometric historical descriptions of Roman formations.Anyway, I really think you guys deserve an A on this. Koodos of course to the existing software but as a spectator I can see you did a lot of work and showed the highest possible realism. Can you make one for Caesar's greatest battle, the battle of Alesia? I'll be your first fan.
not quite it was the greastest of it's time but a few other did surpass it. I like Hannibals Victory at Lake Trasiemre better as it was won before the swords were even draw.
This is a very good movie. 10+ !! I have only one question : HOW DID YOU MAKE THIS FILM?? WHAT PROGRAM DID YOU USE?....PLEASE INFORM ME..!! I WANNA MAKE MOVIES LIKE THIS TOO.
From what i've read hannibal didn't position his troops into a crescent they were pushed into that formation when the heavy legionaries pushed into his center. and a river was to the back of one or the other, nobody is sure which side it was on.
hannibal put weak troops in the centre and heavy troops in the flanks. the weak soldiers felt back and the romans were following them, so the strong soldiers from the flanks could attack them.
Hannibal asked more power to destroy rome , he asked from Carthage Parliament senat, which strongly rejects categorically wars of Hannibal , Because Carthage
Was originally a Commercial civilization, not military expansionist
familly Barca think seriously about the danger of this new city in the other side ( rome )

It's Hard to say how much the Carthagians supported Hannibal at the begining. The war was declared in the 104 (Carthagian Senate) to a Roman delegation. The lack of a port and the inifectness of the Carthagian Navy have often been sighted as reasons for the lack of support for Hannibal.
I'm about 90% sure Blackspartan didn't make this video. You could download it on totalrome(dot)com a few years ago. The maker's name was Joe Mozzi and I'm quite certain it's not Blackspartan. Please change the description and credit the maker instead of taking credit for it.
All the elephants, except 1, died back in 218 BC, about 2 years before the battle. It was the fact his army was a vetran force and had great conferdance in his own abilties. Varro Plan was sound and may very well of suceeded but it turned outto be Hannibals day.
I think that all 37 elephants suvired the trip but all but 1 died after the 1st battle due to the cold. Hannibal rode the last elephant thought the marshes in 217BC in while he was Turning Flaminus strageic flank.
this game is awesome(i have too) and can stop playng it i love carthage as a faction they are my favorites rest factions i like the barbarian factions(dacia, gauls, britons)and eastern factions.Ok one single mistake Hannibal in this battle fought as an infatry men exactly in the front of his troops to give them morale. But in rest this movie was epic nice job
Nice to haave the idea that he thought at the front but that was probably wrong, nice for the movies but he would probably be on a hill nearby commanding his troops as becasue if he was at the front then men would have targeted him, he wouldnt be able to watch the flanks, but nice idea :P
that was an amazing vid i am a big fan of Hannibal Barca i have looked up so much about him and i love his story ill give that a 10/10 the music was amazin aswell m8 breat vid
Hannibal like Alexander before him were Lions amongst men. They truely are the classical and most celebrated soldiers in man's long and destructive warrior history. *Lets out the paen war cry in thier honour*
Google Europa Barbarorum. It's a total modification for the game that makes it way cooler. Also search for a mod called Rome Total Realism and other small mods, you may like them.
Most historians agree that Rome took the field with not much less than 90,000 men, made up of 8 Legions, their auxilliaries, allies and cavalry numbering around 6,500. Opposing them, the Carthaginians had about 27,000 heavy infanty, 6,000 light infantry and 8,000 cavalry. The Carthaginian army was made up of many different nations, bands and factions. All that united them was.....Hannibal himself.
The entire destruction of the Roman army at Cannae is still the bloodiest battle ever fought.
How did you get the Romans to cooperate? I've been trying to do Cannae for months and the Romans always move too quickly. I nver have time to defeat their cavalry then encircle them I just have to fight them all at once.
I think you have to let your center rout yet you must defeat the flanking cavalry then let the reserve fight the pursuing Romans. Encircle them with your cavalry then destroy them.
lol hannibal lost when he faced his own tacitcs / strategies, i think after so many victorys he was starting to not worry about to loose but then that was why he got defeated he didnt think that scip was that smaaart, I THINK:D
The Romans should have done the only sensible thing at Cannae - leave the hastati and principes to fight and win in the center and place the triarii on the flanks to counter Hanibal's cavalry. Given that it was light cavalry, as long as the triarii are not outmanouvered, they will at least check, if not defeat the cavalry
Great video! Some incorrect historical details, the Carthaginians had killed like 60,000 romans (only 50,000 on the field?) but you can't really take these discriptions accurate because it happend over 2000 years ago. You should make more remakes.
nice battle of cannae 5000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000out of 500000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
Im so sorry : I know this battle very well and this is incorrect Carthage were stationary in there trademark crecent formation: The legions of rome all forced there center and the stronger inf of Carthage were pushed around romes flanks and surrounded them , meanwhile Hannibal was trying to battle with the unexperinced roman cavalry. Hannibal's cav one and just crashed into romes inf creating huge chaos
they guy was 75% correct, u covered the rest. on thing i would add though is tht hannibal planned the romans to break through his centre by puttin his weakest infantry there and then exploited the fact romans were taught to fight forwards. the guy was a genious
Check out my channel to see Cannae- The Movie in HD download! This is an epic cinematic cinema-like movie containing 9.45 minutes of awesome footage that will let you freak out of joy.
i liked the music at the very beggining but the truth is the actually carthaginians looks way different in that video the just looked like greeks well i guess they kind of looked carthaginian but good game though ive played it but then i died bcuz it was an ilegaly downloaded game lol good video ;)
theres nothing historical about it. the light clothing is just supposed to show that they are poor mercanries... the programers didnt want to take time "culturalizing" them
One has to speculate what type of world we would have if Hannibal had destroyed the city of Rome after completely destroying her entire army. Perhaps the Black Africans of Carthage could have provided a "kinder and gentler" world than the Roman Empire did over the next 700 years.
Carthaginians weren't Africans. Carthage was settled by phoenicians from Tyre in the 900's BC.
Most of us wouldn't be speaking the same language as they are now, nor would we be in the places they are now. There would be no US, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, or Italy and Eastern powers (Parthia, Carthage, China, Egypt, etc...) would probably dominate the globe. Christianity wouldn't have spread, and maybe even wouldn't have started at all.
FOR REAL...
the Carthaginians have 50,000...
while the Romans have 83,000

Im so sorry : I know this battle very well and this is incorrect Carthage were stationary in there trademark crecent formation: The legions of rome all forced there center and the stronger inf of Carthage were pushed around romes flanks and surrounded them , meanwhile Hannibal was trying to battle with the unexperinced roman cavalry. Hannibal's cav one and just crashed into romes inf creating huge chaos

they guy was 75% correct, u covered the rest. on thing i would add though is tht hannibal planned the romans to break through his centre by puttin his weakest infantry there and then exploited the fact romans were taught to fight forwards. the guy was a genious

lukeye12345 3 years ago
Seems to be a guitar version of Chopin's Largo Prelude in C minor

why does the carthaginian cavalry look basically greek? or were they influenced by the greeks?
turbold1 3 years ago
theres nothing historical about it. the light clothing is just supposed to show that they are poor mercanries... the programers didnt want to take time "culturalizing" them
thatcherdude 3 years ago
dude they were kind of a little bit looking alike lol maybe just a lil? xD

Carthage fought the pre marius roman army, and they only had a few elephants left after they crossed the alps.

One has to speculate what type of world we would have if Hannibal had destroyed the city of Rome after completely destroying her entire army. Perhaps the Black Africans of Carthage could have provided a "kinder and gentler" world than the Roman Empire did over the next 700 years.

and what of the renaissance that originated in italy??

What about it? I'm confused..

The world would be a very different place.
