  • Don't treat aboriginies very well

Hand them houses for shits and gigs.

  • At least Whoppie got it, good for her.

It seems that humour will die, and people will be too scared to open their mouths and communicate in the future because they'll be faced with the fact they might "offend" someone.

Those types who are easily offended offend me. I think there are far more pressing problems in the world than spending time commenting on something so trivial.

  • Over sensitive americans and historically unaware ausies I'd say

  • @Piatasify It's not that we're unaware so much as we... don't put so much stigma on different colours. Don't get me wrong, we have just as much trouble with the whole 'different racial groups and skin colours' issue thing as anywhere else in the world. It's just most people - and I do stress 'most', bein' those who aren't either filthy rich, dickheads or politicians - simply don't give a damn what you look like. Though, I do understand why this upsets so many people, especially internationally.

  • @blissfullness93

That is so incredibly ignorant. Blackface is not offensive because it acknowledges color. Blackface is offensive because it was historically used to degrade blacks and satirize their worth. Why do we care in America? One, you were talking about a beloved Black AMERICAN family. Two, if Americans mocked the Aborigines "all in good fun", and then went on to pretend we had done nothing wrong--you'd have every right to be pissed.

  • I don't think americans understand what racism is, racisim is when you hate someone of another race not make a harmless joke. Get over it people, this isn't racist. They just dressed up as black people and sung a song, I really don't get what the big deal is. Americans can be quite rediculous when it comes to whats racist and not and will never live in a non-racist country until they realise how to not take race so serieously and see every race as the same, something that most australians can do

  • @MrMilanokas Harry was asked to judge the skit and in saying he knew it was done in jest he refused and explained why. As a American no right minded (or maybe only right minded person would judge or laugh at this due to the history of America. He is from New Orleans and as for the question of how is this racist it reminds Americans of the black and white minstrels when white actors would paint themselves to be black so no Black actor singer got work

  • I applaud Harry Connicks management for giving him that speech, as he doesn't want to get famous off white people's songs in the future.

  • Whoopi is so right. It was never meant to be a racist attack on anyone..and if anyone wanted to take offence it should be the jacksons.

How hypocritical to call it racist when America has one of the most tainted history, especially when it comes to African Americans.

Australia has its own demons, but if that tribute was done expertly, people would not even notice that is was 'inappropriate' or 'racist'. They just wanted to look authentic, hence the paint.

The performers were just shit house.

  • Political correctness and accusations of racism is deliberate Communist psychological abuse against White people. Harry Connick jnr, the View and Oprah Winfrey, you take your vicious Jewish & Black Supremacist lies and accusations and you shove them up yo ass and you can take it from this angry White Aussie that your behavior is not acceptable or welcome in this country. Harry, don't come back to Australia you mongrel.

  • Oh my...... how hypocritical are the US of A???? Post racist america.... just because Obama is President? Yeah right. I lived in the states and racism is far from dead over there!! True our history with the Aboriginal people may not have been great, but then again neither was theirs!

We did not use aboriginals as slaves OR segregate them from white kids in schools and buses.

Just another example of the Americans getting on their high and mighty horses and preaching to the rest of the world!

  • @haral010 Er, correction mate. My old man was not allowed to vote, nor buy alcohol. My great grandfather worked for flour and ammunition for his rifle (virtual slavery) and was flogged by his "master" There was segregation on buses, at public pools etc. Look up Charlie Perkins and his controversial "pool tour" and get your facts right. However I agree with the rest of what you said. Peace

  • @floydfab I think we are far more post racial then the US is.She obviously hasn't seen south park before if she thinks that was demeaning ,Perhaps she should watch all the south park episodes and see how many times 'Jew' is used as a negative context.USA is also horrible too Mexicans. I know we aren't perfect in Australia but it's a lot more laid back here then it is in the US.

  • There is an American movie called "Tropic Thunder" (2008) with Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jnr who surprise surprise played a black man. He had dark make up etc all over his face to make him look black. So a white American with a black face in a hollywood movie and they are worried about a little TV show in OZ! Geez those Australians are really racist.......hyprocites!

  • @MrRealityCheck88 In the movie Tropic Thunder, Robert Downey's character is the source of the comedy, as he is playing an actor so pretentious that he doesn't even have the awareness that what he is doing is offensive. It's satire. people with black skin are not the joke with his character, he is. Do you see the difference? No? Okay.

  • The lead guy was Indian (black)...judging abit to quick over there.

  • is it worth mentioning that some of the performers where Indian immigrants?

  • lol, it's 5 men in black face not 4, dumbass

  • waaaaa waaaaa

  • people cannot take a joke , how many michael jackson jokes are there out there , come on ,

  • Sorry is it just me or did I dream that a hurricane hit New Orleans and the US Govt crawled in its approach to provide aid??? I am sorry but I think those sitting on the panel of the view should take a trip to Australia and then comment on our culture. I hated the clip, it was a bad choice but Hey Hey hardly reflects the rest of society. By thw way someone should ask Whoopi about Ted Danson and Blackface.

  • rofl they call australia racist? coming from a country that killed a lot of people for no reason at all like they killed so much people for no reason.... I'm not a australian but

i live in australia a country with that kind of racist history has no right to call another country racist

  • These women on the panel....they are either - a. 'not very bright' b. sensationalists.

I'm not quite sure....but, either way, they are working with totally wrong information. The don't seem to understand the facts. Oh well : )

  • Omg the movie white chicks is racist!... fukin americans

  • Oh what crap. It was all in good fun. If the Yanks want to point the finger, lets talk about what they've done to the Indians! And the Black slaves!. OMG. Grow Up USA! .-.-.

  • I wonder what would happen to the Aboriginals if they were in the United States. Well there would be no generous government benefits because socialism is evil in the united states. There would be no pubic housing because this would make rich Americans less poor.

I think the Aboriginals should be grateful they are under the Australian Government and not the American Government. We all know how America hates it's poor.

  • The woman next to Whoopi Goldberg doesn't get it and speaks in contradictions.

  • I think the problem here is that Americans view the world in a very egocentric way - and I do not mean that in a condescending way. They are the global power and have come to assume that their socio-cultural values are understood universally, so when an australian group covers a Jackson Five song in black makeup, they automatically assume that its a derogatory remark about the black and white minstrels - something that most australians would be unaware of.

  • @Jinda89 I completely agree, it's their arrogance that thinks we should all have the same universal morals etc. Yeah ok, so it was an American group they were portraying, but what were they doing wrong? To me it's racist for the Americans to be saying it's a bad thing they were painted black - what, they're gonna do the dance as white people? That wouldn't make sense, they're just portraying them correctly. It's like making a WWII movie with soldiers wearing jeans and a shirt to war.

  • Couldnt agree more!!

  • 1:02 true, white australians didn't always treat the indigenous australians well, but......if their going to put it that way, white americans didn't treat the native americans nicely either OR the african americans for that matter.

the whole issue was just a cultural misunderstanding, not racism.

by the way, the indian who was set on fire, turned out he was committing an insurance fraud with his car & accidently caught himself on fire

  • i'm refering to the Jackson skit when i say 'the whole issue was just a cultural misunderstanding, not racism.'

  • Thank you SO much Goldberg for being the only person to raise an intelligent point of view that isn't just political ass-covering.

The most amusing part of course being that the only dark-skinned person in the room is the ONLY PERSON NOT OFFENDED BY THE SKIT.

Im sorry but when a bunch of white upper-class people sit around talking about how outraged they are and the only person in the room who could actually be construed as a target of this racism is just laughing it off...

  • we do not have the problems that america has with its black people ,eg the killings rapes, etc etc so for us its innocent fun with no racial preduce meant.

yes perhaps we are ignoant of this , i guess thats why we are the lucky country.

  • the view: gobble gobble gobble gobble gobble gobble gobble gobble

  • And if you are an American, why is a bunch of amateurs on an Australian comedy show offensive and yet this isnt:

    watch?v=9vtOt5mNEZE

  • Here is the view of an American more qualified to speak than anyone on "The View":

    watch?v=Hnsuqjs3RjY&feature=related

  • Hey Hey Its Saturday isn't a talent show, neither is Red Faces. Its comedy. The sketch was not demeaning, unless you're an American who takes the view that your culture is morally superior to others and trying to push your own uniquely American racial hangups on people from other countries. This is otherwise called ethnocentrism and it is most certainly offensive to Australians. The irony here is that Americans in their belief in their own cultural superiority don't even notice their hypocrisy.

  • Why should we give a fuck?

This sketch originally occurred on Hey Hey! It's Saturday! when it was on air in 1984. What the Yanks actually saw, was a 2009 reunion after the show was axed in 1999 (for 28 years) - and the reenactment is a tribute to the sketch.

The confusing animosity from the American press makes them seen as 'dumb' through the eyes of the Aussies.

We do not need to give a fuck, do we? What next? Re-brand Coon cheese under another name?

  • @SlimeTron5000 (went over character limit) cont.. Exactly what does that have to do with anything? What difference does the fact that the Jacksons are American make at all?

  • 43,382

  • 1) All countries have racist individuals.

    2) Judge not lest ye be judged.

    3) Defending against racism using more racism makes you a racist.

    4) Do not judge an entire country by the actions of the few.

    5) If you think Australia is racist, then come here and meet our people rather than hiding on your computer. Prove yourself right / wrong.

    6) There are far worse things in the world then a racially insensitive comedy / talent(/less) skit.

  • david chappelle makes fun of white people on his show,i dont get offended, like the 80's duran duran fan white guy,my friend looked just like that with the sweater, deck shoes, and blue jean pants

  • our country is divided pure and simple,my city has already become more segregated in the last 25 years

  • i thought the skit was funny, does that make me racist? i sure as hell dont feel racist lol

  • Americans.

  • You're right annoying Jewish lady, you wouldn't do it there. But you know, did you even listen to Whoopie?

America is so obsessed with being "Not racist" THAT obsession merely highlights how racist you guys are. I think Dave Chappelle made an attempt to break that barrier.

If i see someone of a different race, i don't even differentiate. Whereas you all seem hung up on being careful with how you treat other races... why don't you just try treating EVERYONE THE SAME?

    Cheers from Aus.

  • i would gladly live in your country, our country has had a lof hang ups for several years,it gets old after a while

  • Typical Americans everyone else in t he world "doesn't get it". But they do. But still there the most hated country in the world why is that?

  • WTF?! Its a song done by a black band... so your going to dress up black!! ITS NOT FUCKING RACIST!! jesus. Fucking bullshit.

  • as a white chick i gotta say i pmsl watching the wayans brothers flick of same name. Maybe it's time to get a sense of humour about the whole thing so as a world we can move foward past racism.

  • "They dont treat aborigines so great either"..there are always 2 flagpoles in Australia....one is the Australian flag...the 2nd flagpole houses the Aboriginal flag .....Abstudy is a college govt handout to Aboriginal Australian college students which is a higher rate than the normal Austudy (college govt handout to white Australian students)...the Rudd Administration formally apologized to Aboriginal Australians on 13th Feb 2008...stop lookin for racism and blowing things out of proportion...

  • The woman in this clip who said, "They dont treat aborigines so great either", wouldn't have a clue. She is speaking out of that same American culturally superior view that is so offensive to people from other countries while at the same time being completely ignorant of what she speaks about, making herself not only offensive but stupid.

  • These are token gestures. Most of them live in poverty, in third world conditions.

Do not confuse the political with social reality.

  • @csnu5 hehe what the hell is a gibberish-ass apology worth.. if you really mean it, then i suggest you take your white so-called aussie-ass back to the ica-age region in europe that you just recently came from, and invaded on Black-aboriginals land = the real natives-Black Australia... so if you invaders/so-called imposter settlers go back home to your europe, then the apology mathers and would be accepted.. so shut your hypocritical arrogant mouth kid, you're a Obvious Darwinistic Closet-racist

  • @CushiticSomalianMale your a dickhead mate,we have all come from somewhere, been invaded, taken over or moved on.Its called progression. This country offers everyone an opportunity to succeed if they want,if you dont like it fuck off!

  • @CushiticSomalianMale The fact that you use "Darwinistic" as though it is a put-down in some way exposes you for the narrow minded moron that you are. Furthermore, America was colonised a mere 200 years before Australia, so how about you haul ass back to wherever your descendants migrated from before you go calling us hypocrites.

@LearningMusicAu It's The View. They're not particularly intelligent so it's probably a bit tough to expect much from them. :p

  • @csnu5 ,there is actually always 3 flag poles, the 1st on is the Australian Flag, 2nd the Aboriginal flag 3rd the Torres Strait Island Flag and yes we do receive abstudy and yes it higher rate then Austudy, but I think we deserve it and entitled to it don’t you think, and yes Rudd gov apologies to the aboriginal people, but why did it take the Australian gov so long, to say sorry. Stop making out Australia is respectable towards Aboriginal people, Reconciliation in this country is very distant.

  • @csnu5 Because that's why people choose where to live by the number of Aborigines in the area...

  • Its just shows you how much Australia has changed since the last time they did that skit on red faces,a friend of mine told me about when Louis Armstrong came out to Australia in 1963 0r 64 the racists fuckers wouldn't let him stay in any of the hotels so he had to stay with the salvation Army or some other charity organization while on tour in Australia....

  • @kooriland4eva A friend told you....good source

  • Your friend told you Louis Armstrong and the All Stars were not allowed in Australian hotels in the 1960's and you buy that?

Can you find a single piece of evidence to support this claim? Because I can't.

  • @kooriland4eva your friend is lying, was he actually there at the time Louis Armstrong was at Australia? cos I couldn't find any story like that on the internet

  • It makes me sad when you attack all Americans.

All Americans don't hate on you because of this skit.

Most Americans enjoy a dose of reality.

They have done nothing to you, so please use your head and target the people who push their haughty ideals onto you, rather than attack all of them.

Most of them are on your side!

  • get a life we were just having fun and dont talk bout the aborigines we apologised to them and we live in peace with them.

and u know wat i laughed my head off coz it was funny and great entertainment to me i had a great time watching it

  • yoyhu yindi is our top aboriginal group and hey hey is not a talent show its a comedy show ffs grow up

  • Why is it that White men feel they have a birth right to offend anyone they choose. This is not an isolated case. It has happend throughtout the history of White rule. However, Peoples' of the world allow it when they give up their culture for trinkets/shinny things. One CANNOT become upset when One sells their soul to the Devil and he comes to collect. When you allow EVIL IN, you CANNOT become upset when EVIL starts to act EVIL. Something should be done but it wont, and evil will win again.

  • I meant Ted Danson.

  • This would have been the perfect opportunity for Whoopi to explain the Dan Danson/Friars Club incident, where she put her white ex-boyfriend up to a blackface stunt that went horribly wrong. Would have perhaps illuminated the issue.

  • i think MANY PEOPLE DONT THINK THAT THIS WAS FROM A DIFFERENT COUNTRY. i dont think it was spawn from hate!

  • First off you are showing your true racist colors, by saying 'blacks' instead of some blacks. What's this fucking 'cut them off' them who? blacks? again instead of some blacks. You are doing the most racist thing by including all. When they do it? they who? again blacks? And what the fuck is BASTA?

You are the true racist here!

  • ALL "APPLAUDS" goes out to Harry Connick jr.

Kudos Harry Connick jr. Enough with the RACIST shit!! This was no TRIBUTE but an INSULT!!

Only the ATHEISTIC loved this sick skit!! This wasnt even ENTERTAINMENT and that's why 2 of the JUDGES gave the Performance such a low score and it wasnt Funny either!!

  • @pabankhead1

    ALL "APPLAUDS"

I think the word you are looking for is "applause".

  • Whoopie Goldberg How dear you say that Australians are racist, you disgusting bitch ! Why don't you take your reverse racist views and piss off !

  • im australian... hey hey its saturday is for the lowest common denominator. no australian with any intelligence or real sense of humour watches that show, to say its our sense of humour is insulting, that show died years ago and should have stayed that way

  • I can't do anything other than laugh at how big they have made this out of nothing. For starters a white person putting on black make-up makes them racist? Based on that it is fair to say a guy wearing make up means the guy is sexist. We Australians can take the piss out of ourselves. They in no way mocked a race so how is it racist?

They may have mocked the Jackson five but making fun of people who are black doesn't make them a racist unless they were making fun of them due to their race.

  • lol what a load of fucking bullshit. i dont see the problem

  • The View is insensitive and offensive also:

    From wiki:

The use of "Aborigine(s)" or "Aboriginal(s)" in this sense, i.e. as a noun, has acquired negative, even derogatory connotations in some sectors of the community, who regard it as insensitive, and even offensive.[10] The more acceptable and correct expression is "Aboriginal Australians" or "Aboriginal people," ... "Indigenous Australians" has found increasing acceptance, particularly since the 1980s.[11]

  • im australian and i have to sadly agree that australia is generaly a racist society.

i hate to say it but its true.

just the other day i saw 2 asian kids ( around 15 y/o) get attacked by this bogan dude who was around 40 because they were speaking vietnamese instead of english. it was on a bus and nobody did shit apart from this one guy and myself..... there was even a dude recording on his phone ....

this wasn't the first incident iv seen like this and im sure it wont be the last

  • are you aware the word "bogan" originated from a western NSW indigenous dialect where "bogan" means elder or tribe leader?

  • I have to say I did experience a fair old amount of racism in Australia, i was amazed at the terms being used on TV and radio by commentators to describe the Pakistani cricket team it was shocking. That said Melbourne was wonderful i met a lot of open minded people there. Its not that the racism was less so than anywhere else it was the fact that is was so openly accepted as a normal way to behave. As for indigenous Australians they were there first, the term Aboriginal is racist and offensive.

  • its not a talent show... its a variety show... all these american programs and news reports and making look like a talent show!!!

  • Lets be honest arent we expecting a bit too much from Australians?

Dont you know their history? The Aboriginies that a left are told to be grateful for their existence.

  • Peter2o6 - don't get me started, people in glass houses should not throw stones. I have studied the history of America and i definately do not believe that you treated your native population well!!! Tell me where the aboriginals have been told to be grateful for their existence??? If you are going to sprout shit, back it up!!!!!

  • I can make a serious credible argument that Australia cares more about its animals than it does about the indigenous people.

I mean most species of animals have been preserved but only about 10% according to international records, remain. I could go one but you catch my drift.

  • How do you explain the evidence If you do not feel that way?

Is it all just one big misunderstanding?

  • you say that like every individual american agrees with every single war

  • meh... old, washed up, hypocritial actors (I think) making politicial arguements on day time television... anybody care? nope

  • Do you know what would be a good idea, if we all settled on ONE colour, let's all be yellow like the simpsons and stop this RIDICULOUS, UNNECESSARY STUPIDITY, WRONG DOINGS, FALSE ACCUSATIONS AND MOVE ON!!

  • Go have your police shoot another black man for carrying a wallet, Yanks, then we'll discuss who treats their minorities better.

  • neither are fucken americans

    theyre british as well

    your a fucken hippocrite whoopi

cos america treats the indians so well

  • We might not be perfect but we are light years ahead of Austrialia when it comes to race relations.

  • Actually racial crime is much worse in the States and Indigenous Australians are entitled to free housing, education and medical by the government so no - America is not "light years" ahead of Australia in race relations. In fact in 1830s six white men were hung in NSW for murdering a black man. Meanwhile slavery was alive and well in the states. I'm not trying to say Australia is perfect, no country is, but don't try to take the moral high ground if you don't know the issue.

  • Actually Australia is having problems with Indian immigrants now and lets not for get the race riots on the beaches just a couple years ago. Again bringing up stuff from the 1830's doesn't take away from the fact that Australia has some serious race issues now. At least in America we voted a minority as president. Now there are still some issues here but to pretend like Australia doesn't have racism and the indegenous pop. is treated fairly is a fallacy. I lived there for 2 yrs. I saw it.

  • The Cronulla Riots were a more locals vs immigrant gangs (two young female teenage volunteer surf lifesavers were beaten by a Lebanese gang on the beach cause it was "their turf", but your right unemployed bogans (you should know what that means then) took it as an excuse to form a mob but so did the gangs. Not saying Australia is perfect but its not what international media portray it as. Cronulla is ONE (1) suburb of Sydney which is ONE (1) city of Australia.

  • As an African American, believe I am not buying this once incident is the only incident that this country has had. You said it was a gang thing, well that tells me that there are some inherent issues of race. Ask any gang member why they are in a gang and you will be told because they don't have the opportunities that others in society my have do to institutionalized discrimination. Believe I am sure those who are minorities in you nation would sing a different tune.

  • america is just dump fulll stop

  • I don't think so, but they sure like to use get partisan on opinions. It is all just for show, yet nothing ever changes.

  • Colnago2005, I just watched a programme on TV about Ullaru and the 300 Aboriginal group that live near it,One Aboriginee farmer who owns a huge property near by,is taking some of the young men and training them to be jackeroos, hes great & has done so well himself and says the ones in this group get everything handed to them on a plate, just sit around drinking, and he said the goverment should stop the handouts(they get house &cars) so they can work and get their self respect back.

  • Yeh thats awesome that he's doing that and has a good attitude. But could you imagine the outcry if their benefits were taken.

  • its just like that time Bert Newton call muhammad ali A GOOD BOY lol how did he know that was racist he has been using that line for skits for years.

  • ok, i'm australian.

that sketch wasn't the best idea.

however, everybody is reading way too much into this. it's harry connick jr. who's segregated the black people from the white by making a big deal of this! it was done in jest, as a tribute, by a group of educated doctors, just for some fun. so if you people want to get on your high horse and make a big deal of it, fine. you're all trying to make a big deal out of jackshit.

  • wow honestly...you think aboriginals aren't treated well here?

Well let me see, they get free medical benefits, free schooling education, and im pretty sture theres a ton more.

Before you say shit like that i think you should research it, however i do agree with your other points but you have no right to say that we dont treat them well.

  • Sure, shut the stable door when the horse has bolted.

You shouldnt even be there bottom line.

  • Honestly, I don't care, but people seem to be ignoring the legitimate fact that just because Australians are associated with being white and they speak English that they are immediately subject to the same standards Americans have, and that simply isn't true.

I've yet to see one debate take off where people divide Australian rationale and American, or Worldly, for that matter. We just assume it's one large view, and we haven't obtain that unity yet. Possibly, never will.

  • You know one thing is constant....where people of color are and whites show up, there is always death soon follows.....

  • If the ppl of colour were more technically advanced, like the whites were, it would have happened the other way around.

  • America and Australia both started by ex UK crimminals....what do you expect these Devils to do? Insensitive Beasts! Funny how both countries are running their countries in the ground by treating people of color as inatimate objects.

  • Whoopi Goldberg is an idiot, its 5 men at the back, not 4, and Hey Hey its Saturday is NOT an Australian Talent Show..

  • i hate how this showing is making the american guy look so almighty, and the australian people like satan's children.

they dont know they're is barely any african american people in australia and they probably didn't think it would of been broadcasted all over the world.

Most australian people aren't racist, but they are acting like the entire population are fucking skinhead racists.

  • Anyone seen the movie "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus", American Actor Verne Troyer appears in black face half way through the movie, certainly not is a positive way. Havnt seen that in the media have we?

  • how can she say we treat aboriginals badly? in australia they have more rights, more privelages that anyone else in the country.

correct me if im wrong wasnt it america who organised the genocide of the entire american indian race.. or do they just ignore that fact? along with enslaving another race for hundreds of years.or the creation of dozens of racial hate groups (KKK, aryan brotherhood, ) hmmmmm reind me again what we did that was worse than that?

  • IMO you have to be Australian to understand that the Jackson Jive was actually a tribute.

Although can anyone actually point out to me how the Jackson Jive bag out black people? The only thing they do is don black paint.

  • Unlike some, I'll stick to the subject & question!..."Black face" was & will always = a cheap & exaggerated performance by white actors who portray African-Americans [negatively as buffoons]. It has never been anything else. So it is NOT just black paint people are responding to, it is the history behind it. That is the reason Harry Connick, Jr. replied the way he did - with shock & displeasure.

  • Stay where you are needed Dear :-)

Shoot up the aboriginals in whatever period and you will be hanged. Historically I understand that the UK tried to set things right from past lessons learned - the order was to make friends which is hard when your common cold is a death sentence, but that aside, we are talking about a changing if times and things learned by people who may have been hard, bust not evil.

In Australia we mixed from the get go. Only I appreciate abos would respected for that.

  • Yeah awesome you guys get to joke about black people. That's really nice of you

  • hey we aussies get stereotyped all the time too, not unlike african americans

  • We are supposed to lay down in a whimper because of something that happened in another continent in another time and our comedy acts must also conform to the rights given for whatever lame reason which kill any media that blacks can dislike for any reason, or so it seems.

Apparently America can still do it, but not Aussies - even though blacks here are perfectly able to express themselves any way they wish and can get ahead in life without American style discrimination (if it really exists)

  • One word "INTENT", there was none, hence it was not racially driven. 3.0/10 on imdb show's how bad this show really is.

  • That's right America would never do a skit like this.White Americans are so brainwashed and politically correct some would rather die first. Most Americans look all around an whisper before they will criticize or make a joke about a black person.

  • why is it that if white men paint there faces black and do a skit that its racist??? BUT if black people painted there face white and did a skit on the beetles or somthing like that no1 would give a fuck. Its pisses me off.

  • i didnt see it as rascist i saw it as a tribute. typical day time television taking it out of context and showing a biased viewpoint

  • I don't see any similarity between using blacks as slaves and anything aboriginals have had to bare, but native Americans certainly had it bad for a long while and I doubt they will ever be apologized to, or be the recipients of so much funding aimed at setting things right.

  • I said this, not really comparing Aboriginals and African Americans as such (sadly, I really do know little of the Treatment of Native Americans) My comment was made in Frustration to the fact that Americans now VERY little about Australia and I am sure thery know even less about Aboriginals.

  • You know that a buffoon isn't a baboon right? A baboon is a kind of monkey, a buffoon is a stupid person.

  • hehe I love how Harry say's "we try to make them not look like baffoons" like they are another species that actually do look like baffoons but we don't want them to know we think that... oh dear.

this whole thing was blown way out of context.

  • these women dont know anything about australia, let alone the fact that america doesnt have one foot to stand on when it comes to racism

  • ur right i was in that studio audience that night and we have appoligised to the abbo people so i see why they think this is racisim but we had no intention of racisim

  • Ok.. I Can't post the link, but type this in here on Youtube....The Racist Video Howard Stern Didnt Want You To See! .

I guess that white AMERICANS can get away with it! (Interesting to Note that Whoopi was mentioned in this clip from the 80's, with Ted Danson!)

(And Whoopi, what does the fact that Michael was 'Darker" 20 years ago have to do with this?)

  • You know what! Im Australian and I think that the skit was taken way to seriously, like come on do you think they went out there to offend someone who just died.. Who would do that.. And hey there doctors.

Personally I think that Americans just have a different sense of humor to Australians, So thats why they took it so harshly.

  • But see, the difference in context is exactly the point. Because our histories are so different and Americans have faced and continue to grapple with such prevalent racial tensions and oppression, Australians DON'T understand why Americans took offense. I'm don't think the performers had bad intentions but suggesting that we have no right to be offended is the refusal to be sympathetic to a deep issue and continues to silence and degrade us. If anything, this should be a learning experience.

  • You don't see how those aggrieved minorities in America (but just as often from whichever country), attack Australia (aka white people) in vengeance for their past, and the reaction to the skit is one example.

It's just silly to say that black paint is wrong if the parody is about black people, so it is a small example, but you are indeed forcing unequal standards based on race onto people who are better off not looking at American racial imperatives, which are discriminatory in nature.

  • I have to agree with you. We don't get it, and probably never will, just like the yanks wondering why after all thim time that African/American people are still pissed at them. They don't get it, and try to cover it up by saying that if you make a negro joke, it's wrong but a negro saying a white joke is o.k. Another thing, none of those performers were born in Aus, but they all live here happily, suggests to me that we're not as racist as the yanks say we are.

  • Well first, you should take into consideration that they're living there happily as WHITE MEN. And secondly, Logicbeatslies, you seemed to be miss my point. It's not about vengeance or hate. It's about you being respectful enough not to call a real concern that you absolutely could not understand silly. If you were black in America and blackface has been used for hundreds of years to dehumanize you, I think you might see this a little differently. All we're asking is that that's understood.

  • That is the point.

We are not American and we already suffer enough from people demanding special rights from playing the race card when nobody here was ever thought of as less because they are black, brown or whatever, yet we are attacked by these guys because they become indignant in their demands whilst other people who don't have the same gripes never complain.

Tell me what is right then? Should we accept that American guilt MUST be laid upon us or can we keep treating all people as equal?

  • Ok maybe I should stop talking about this with you if you're still so shallowminded to invoke concepts like "special rights" or the "race card". Asking for respect is not a special right. It's a human one. And there would never BE a race card if people weren't racist. I wasn't trying to turn this into a debate but was just trying to get you to understand even a percentage of my perspective. But since you refuse, I suppose you can go continue to make fools of people like me. I'm done here.

  • 'Like you' means African/Americans, don't you see?

The Africans I meet are so happy to be here they want to assimilate and being picked on (though this skit isn't part of that) is just cool.

Alright some of them come here with more mob mentality than society accepts, but if you say hello enough, they learn to smile back.

Most blacks are just nice people, and you think they might be offended by some (mostly) black guys sending up a negative stereotype MJ's family - hardly.

    Be happy, be brave.

  • Gotta love when non-minorities think they understand the experience of another group because they smile. By saying "if you say hello enough, they learn to smile back", it seems like you want to keep blacks quiet rather than taking what they feel and go through into consideration. It's not hard to figure out smiling back doesn't mean everything's perfectly fine.

Ignoring things doesn't solve them. I'm actually very brave and more than happy. That doesn't mean that I can't have valid concerns.

  • And you're right, I can't apologize on behalf of Australia. Unfortunately this clip has gained status in the U.S.A. as representing Australians and therefore representing me, and I do not in any way think that this was a good idea.

I apologize to anyone who was offended by this skit on behalf of any Australians who were similarly offended by this skit.

I promise that I will try to help other people see that something that offends people is, by it's nature, offensive.

    No further comment

  • I'm not worried about whether I watch it, which I didn't anyway, aside from Youtube. I am worried about the fact that people are justifying this obviously offensive act by passing it off as Australian humour.

I am also worried that by justifying clips like this you are allowing people to justify their own racism.

  • I apologize on behalf of my country to anyone who took offense, and cannot defend Australia against being racist in this case, even if it was purely out of an idiotic and inexcusable lack of consideration rather than a derogatory attack. I commend Harry Connick Jnr. for acting appropriately in a situation that was out of his control.

Hey, Hey It's Saturday deserves to be taken off air, not just for this display, but also for being worse than mediocre in general

  • I am an Australian. Whoopie Goldberg says that we don't have the context of living with a large community of African descent to know that doing this kind of skit is wrong.

Anyone with a hint of intelligence should know that this display alludes to a historically racist practice, and I personally am ashamed of the fact that we as a nation haven't come up with any better entertainment in the last 15 years that this piece of idiocy made it to air.

  • Look Australians arnt Racists, we dont think that way. We found it funny coz we dont have that History in our country, our history is welcoming other races to our country!. Yes some very few aussies can be racist. but this skit was just for fun no harm in it. The thing im trying to say Aussies should all be labelled Racist, that the only reason aussies got so upset because we were labelled racist! when were not that at all. Thats why aussies got upset over Harry C J comments.

  • You're not making any sense. Why not try to understand why it would be offensive to Americans?

  • So when the white folks went to Aus. there was no one already there? Your country, you cats crack me up! Unless you and your people are native to the land, it is not yours! I am the descendant of ex-slaves, and the only original Americans to me are the Red ones! white folks traverse the planet disrespect people of color in so many ways and say, "Oh, it was only a joke." disrespectful.........and yes racist!

  • You know something, people of all colours, including africans have travelled the planet for centuries, settled in different lands, the Aboriginees were not the first to live in Australia, thousands of years ago they originally came from India.

We in england could be part Roman or Viking as they came and took over, thats how it has always been.Stop winging about it,its in the past,be happy where you are,if not go you can back to Africa.

  • when the british came to australia there was only a hand full of aboriginals maby only 10,000 and australia is so big we lived together. we never enslaved them we never killed them or hangged them from trees. and what you think the italians are native to italy do u think koreans are native to korea or russians to russia NO THERE NOT so what there country does not belong to them. countrys get won by war and power all around the world. or gets given to them like the jews lol

  • Gsrangelmon So true, hundreds of yrs ago it was a different world, over a thousand yrs ago the vikings came to Britain, killed off 1/2 population of yorkshire, and the Romans came and took over, ruled for 300 yrs,so most british are prob descended from them, but Britain has some great legacies which the Romans brought with them.We dont go around blaiming them for something that happened donkeys yeas ago, what a waste of time. The Aboriginees were not the 1st ones to live in Aust, they came here too.

  • Good, then stop treating Indian students like shit.

  • OMG OMG HENRYS RACISIT!!!!! "Black people like Buffoons"

  • Hi SammibOlii, I could not believe it either when Harry C J came out with that statement,he should have put a sock in it but he put his foot in it instead, I thought it shed a really bad light on himself and Americans, that they were "trying now not to show black Americans as Buffoons", that means he and they must have been doing this in the past.

    What an idiot.

  • oh get the fuck over it.

I'm Australian as well. its called Humor, you have to get over the fact that everything is racist or sexists now days, All everyone's doing now is complaining! as they said 20 years ago the skit won! because its comedy. they did the same skit just a tad skin tone difference whoopty do.

and for the record its Indigenous Australians

not Aboriginals you fat sluts :l

So hows that for being racisit.

  • im from australia and i have to say what idiots we have a totally different humorous way then the yanks and maybe they should get shown how way of humor instead of saying a bunch of nonsense.

  • As a black woman living in America, I now understand where they are coming from. I had a talk from my Australian friend and I am no longer offended. We need to go beyond culture and race and spread love. Be positive, open minded, learn from one another and have intellectual conversations with each other. You can not fight hate with hate! Love makes you the bigger person!

  • i get the face ppl may have been afended by that skit, but that little bit there "they treat the aborigonals baddly" is to wrong!!! the aborigonals are treated as equily and farly as posible! they are not critisized or bad mouthed by most ppl and the government try's to make sure they are treated farly!!!

  • The Aborigines have only begun to be treated equally say in the early 90s. The Stolen Generation is the foremost evidence of harsh and unjust treatment. This situation can like likened to that of the slavery issue of African Americans in the United States last century. It's just a different context (ie different country), that's all.

I think the Jackson Jive didn't mean to offend. I can see how it can be taken the wrong way though and hence the apology issued was appropriate and rightful.

  • im am an australian and i understand were they were going with the skit and the resaon they felt that there was nothing wrong is because herew in australia when dont face the same racial threats they do in the USA. For all the Australians that say that the U.S are taking it to far is an understament you cant understand the racial problem they have faced over time. you just watch the doc Killing Of America that shows how bad it has got at times for them. i understand were they are coming from.

  • Latinos will be the majority in America by the year 2020 & the second will be mixed races so the world will be a different place after the older generation parish & the 70s-80s baby's reach old age. They say majority of the white population will be of mixed race of either half Latino, black,or asian.

  • Sometimes there is a difference btn intent and perception. When one inadvertently crosses the line, one apologizes. Offering a non-apology apology (If we hurt you..., whoever we offended... etc) or insisting, only shakes out the stupid in you. Hitler, Saddam and Idi Amin were also once little known wingnuts who not only preyed on other peoples fears and sensibilities but also amplified the rampant hysteria and ignorance already present at the time. The lyrical genius of M.J will help. LISTEN!

  • typical fucking ignorance and oer exageration of americans every country has there racist moments doesent mean were all racist and as for the fucking red head bitch in this who says we treated the aboriginals terrible talk about throwing stones we didnt form the most racist movement in thw world and linch black people from fucking poles talk about fucking hipecrits

  • understand were they are coming from. Not were you are

  • I think the main problem here is a lack of common sense.

People all have opinions but they are not backed by any intelligent thought.

People completely don't understand a situation and just jump to wild conclusions.

People comment when they have no idea what they are talking about. And people like to take offence and find a reason to be angry.

Ignorance is the enemy here. not these 5 clowns jumping around on stage.

Ignorance and lack of empathy are the main causes for most problems today.

  • Look at the simpsons episode where the family goes to australia, if i was like half the mindless americans out there, i'd be shitting myself in the corner crying about how Americans discriminate against me.

  • I know people in Sydney are all at home wondering if President Obama is going to send the navy over their to blow all their Crocodiles out of the water. The Navy seals will find the gay looking Jackson jive & stick American flags from the dollar store up each of their asses (Justice)

  • are u american?? fuck you with your gay arse accent. i want you to know the whole world hates your country because you love yourselves so fuckin much.. why? your losers! and dont ever bag the aussies motherfucker

  • You may not find my coments constructive because you may not find them politically correct or simply uncover a certain truth. Thank God we live in the US of A where we have "freedom of expression" right?. Im pleased with knowing that at least a few people read my comment before you deleted it just because you dont like the truth. No worries there a other videos i can comment on. Go ahead keep that chip on your shoulder like the entire world owes you something. Peace and freedom.

  • Americans and hypocrisy go hand in hand especially these silly women who compare Australian aborigines with African Americans or former slaves. A more relevant comparison would be the American Indians or the more politically correct, Native Americans. In comparison, the aborigines have had it easy compared with the American Indians and we all know what a hard time the aborigines have had.

  • typical ignorant americans! what the hell do you know about the way we treat our indiginous people! bunch of fuckin know it alls! do some research on aussie history and then realise what we have actually done for the aboriginal race! it was a commical skit broadcast in aus for aussies, if it wasnt for flog bag harry connick jr the world wouldnt know this even occured! he is a fuckin hypocrite anyway with his rediculous skit as a preacher! get the fuck over it america!

  • Cheers! :)

  • america we did this 20 years ago and now you give aa shit y?just because mj died its funny

  • I'd like to call attention to a scene in the film Encino Man, where a caveman identifies and dances around to a yothu yindi song treaty. There was no uproar from us aussies back then.
