    AWESOME SONG!

  • The marxophone was played backwards on Am I Awake? by They Might Be Giants. (Sorry if someone posted this already).

  • This thing sounds so epic on the Red Dead Redemption soundtrack!!

  • These have been used for eons going back to people like Henry Mancini ... nothing new under the sun.

  • Bat For Lashes uses one also....

  • Fleet Foxes have said they're using one of these on their new record.

  • Alabama Song! The Doors! Ray Manzarek played it! Far out!

  • also used on "Somesone's In The Wolf" by Queens of the Stone Age

  • somebody needs to make a tutorial vid on how to play the part in the "Incubus- Anna-Molly" video

  • Wow. Years ago, John Sebastian (of The Lovin' Spoonful) was doing a radio show here in L.A. called the Good Time Music Show. I remember one night he actually talked about the Marxophone because he used one on the song "She Is Still a Mystery," It was hard to picture from the way he described it and I've always wondered what it looked like. Thanks for sharing.

  • That's AMAZING! It sounds like a cross between a piano, dulcimer and set of bagpipes!

  • Wow! Absolutely fabulous music! I have never heard of that instrument before. Where does it originally come from? I love zither music and that reminds me a little of that kind of sounds. Greetings from Finland ;)

  • BEAUTIFUL!

How do you amplify it? Is there a way to install wiring and an output or does it have to be mic'd?

Also, it seems like one of those that's never quite in tune, is that right?

  • Lovely instrument.

  • This sounds so full and beautiful.

  • Love it. How old is that instrument?

  • That's a great instrument! Thanks for sharing!

  • I WANT ONE!!!

  • Whats the name of the song he´playing??

  • Sounds an awful lot like a gospel song, but I can't place it right off the top of my head.

  • Stephen Foster's "Hard Times Come Again No More" There are lots of versions of it on YouTube - James Taylor, Maura O'Connell, Kate & Anna McCarrigle, Nanci Griffith, Laura Love, & Bruce Springsteen, to name a few.

  • Used by Eisley sometimes...

  • used in alabama song/whisky bar cover by the doors back on their debut album in 1967

  • Does it have the full chromatic scale?

  • Mine doesn't, and I'm pretty sure there aren't any variations.

  • What a cool idea.

  • Used in the song "Anna Molly" by Incubus

  • thats why i looked it up....ha

  • lol me too

  • lmfao same here, i think incubas have done a bit for this videos view count lol

  • haha. The argument below is possible one of the funniest, and most innane, that i've ever seen on youtube. - And that's sayin a lot. - Brill, nice one lads!!

  • I would love one of these - are they expensive? difficult to play? I play guitar - basic!

  • it's out of tune

    can u tune marxophone?

  • "can u tune marxophone? "

I suppose that's why they call those pokey things "tuning pegs"

  • calm down deary

i understand u probably dont have many friends but u dont hav to take it out on me

i only asked cos it was out of tune in this vid

  • Don't worry, snookums. All is calm. It takes more than some poor schmuck who can't spell "you," "have," or "'cause" to get me upset. You and your ilk are a dime a dozen. But thanks for the concern.

  • i spell them like THT beCOS it means i dont HAV to spend as much time talking to bellends like U.

anyway, if we're going to correct spelling, U might want to change your "cause" to because!

  • It's okay to admit that you're illiterate, as long as you actually care and try to learn.

There's a difference between not knowing how to spell complicated words like "you," and merely abbreviating "because" to "cause." The difference is one is fucking retarded, and the other is simply abbreviating.

Are you starting to understand, snookums?

ps Really now, "becos?" You can do better!

  • are U suggesting that i don't know you to spell "you"

anyway it doesn't matter because U still understood what i was saying

nfct u cn prbbly ndrstnd ths!

    you prepubescent jizz monkey

go drown in a bowl of shush

  • Marxophones are for commies!

  • lol, I think some people didn't understand that. :)

  • The Doors used one on the studio version of Alabama Song(Whisky Bar)

  • i'm looking for one for one of these in playable condition if anyone has a lead. nice performance!

  • I own a Marxophone as well. Mine has mostly original strings, but I was forced to improvise and use guitar and banjo strings. It's also missing the nameplate. Thank you very much for posting this!

  • Nice. Where do you go if you have a broken string and a missing steel spring ????

  • awesome instrument

  • wow! Your awesome.. I have one of these instruments and it's nice to see someone play a song on one, i'm learning.

    peace

  • This is the best performance I've ever seen on one of these oddball mongrel instruments (tremoloa, ukeline, marxophone, etc). Thanks for sharing. It is indeed, as you say, a "perfect marxophone."
