earl preston (george as people may know him as. Is my great uncle
i found out a little while ago that he was famouse in liverpool and spoke to John lennon from the beatles and played in a popular club. But i never knew he was this popular! =D
and from what i am told he is still popular in liverpool and playing his music.
i have to admit im not into this music but he is good i have never met him but ..nice one =D... lool!
know i know where my musical side comes from =]...hehe xxx
I had the pleasure of playing the Cavern only once, I was rhythm guitarist with Albie & The Sorrels in 63. £8 between 5 of us, less £1 4 the Van, £1.40 each. Cy Tucker was a postman, & he delivered a letter 2 me from Sonny Curtis (The Crickets). I was in The Pool about 6 months ago, but i missed Cy @ The Vines. Next time luv 2 ava chat with Cy. Anyone know anything of The Sorrels now would luv 2 know. Will check back.B Johnson alias Smego
OMG!!I'm an American musician who was living in Liverpool for a few months late last year & I was introduced to Cy & Arthur of the current Cy Tucker Band by a fellow band project member. Cy invited me to come sit in with them at The Vines that Sunday afternoon & it became a regular thing for the rest of my stay! People told me he used to play on the same bill as The Beatles but I really only knew him from meeting him there so it's wild to see this! He sings even better now believe it or not!!
I also want to add that Cy, Arthur, Gary & Howie were the nicest, most down-to-earth guys you'd ever want to know. Arthur would let me play his guitar when I'd sit in & people would tell me that he usually never lets anyone do that!..and yes, they're still going quite strong indeed.
Amazing! It's wonderful to hear that Cy and the others are still going on strong. They played a vital role in the development of British Rock music. The Liverpool scene in the early Sixties was the Golden Age of Britsh Rock.
Thanks for putting this video on. I haven't seen it for ages. My Dad was the drummer and although he hardly gets a look in on the camera, I can hear him loud and clear.
he dropped the name George many years ago and still appears as either JOEY or Earl preston. Frankie Connor from the Hideaways is now presenting on BBC RADIO MERSEYSIDE.
How cool! Georgie actually. He was a good friend from the Cavern. I remember his mildewy damp basement flat where we stayed. He snuck us into the front of the line at the Cavern so we could get a copy of The Hideaways' first record. (David Bowie later incredibly did a cover version even though the Hideaways never made it to the big time.) Such fantastic times. Georgie was polite and friendly and kind. If he's still around, I say hi!
earl preston played the famous cavern club more times than the beatles, and cy tucker who sings my prayer on this clip is still massive over here, many thanx TUNEITO for posting this merseybeat magic
Colefc1, Great to hear that Cy Tucker is still going on strong ...he does a superb job with My Prayer.
Liverpool in the early Sixties must have been an awesome place with such a huge music and club scene going on. I wish I could have been at the original Cavern and all the happening clubs in the area!
liverpool in the 60s was fantastic, the cavern, iron door, mardi gras, the sink, just to name a few,i was in the cavern on the night it closed djs bob wooler and billy butler were stunned, we done a protest march to try and save it. the rest is history.
interesting to watch the faces of the girls in teh front when the guys started to sing " My prayer " ...they coundnt disguise the boredom with a " slow dancing tune "
My favorite is "Why Did It Have To Be You". I have had this video a long time, and have never been able to find this song on 45, LP, or CD. What a shame, cause it's a great Mersey rocker!

Joey Spruce is a long distant cousin of mine as well. His grandmother was a sister to my greatgrandfather. Something like that anyway haha

love to see and hear this (relatively obscure) merseybeat!! wish more of these groups, passed over by national stardom, were available on CD and DVD!
Cy Tucker has amazing power, sounds very much like Gene Pitney here.

I could just imagine all the cool music from that era that either was never recorded or just doesn't exist anymore.
