  • Steven Adler and sammy hagar

  • 0:45 Steven Adler?

  • The entire anthem should have the tone and feel to it as from 1:23-1:35. The ending was also great!

  • i had chills the whole freaking videooooo

  • Who cares if he threw the guitar? He has like 20 of that exact one!

  • Oh, WHY didn't they let Brad Gillis play it?!

  • 1:21 for cold chills

  • Home Run Steve Vai!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what a wanker

  • @micmachack you've been ignored by thousands

  • Vai::::::God of Guitars!

  • 2:18 My heart just dropped until I read the info box. lol

  • A bit showy for me, but that's just me. I still liked it though.

  • 1:45 Bret Michaels "Wow"

  • 123 to 145 made me cry lol.

  • it should be illegal to throw a guitar that awesome but steve makes the law he is jack butler

  • Mourning the guitar.... wasnt vai's best by far but dam.....rich people throw out expensive things I guess

  • 1:21"......wtf?"

  • the use of the wammy bar and with choice of passing notes makes this a master piece!

  • good, but Hendrix rolls vai like a 2 doller joint

  • wow, this gained a shit load of views since the last time I watched it lol

  • i never knew the game was for rockstars until i saw bret micheals and sammy hagar

  • It hurt when he threw the guitar, it really did =/

  • at least half those people they showed are cokeheads...

  • OMG fireworks started going off in my neighborhood during this!!!!!!!

  • these ppl just don't get it

  • just gotta say. Jimi started and should have more views as his version actually made a statement.

  • how to become loved in America, Play the anthem.

    Fucking self-loving under-educated shit country.

  • @ZehSebastiaan ...hihihihihihi! jimi destroyed the anthem and restructured it like a tortured human body. than 40 years later comes the "shiny heinie" new hero and play it like an S&M hym. but now I m worried about Vai's old chief reaction: imagine Zappa -sure the genius is in good company- from Allah Paradise watching his past adepto...

  • @ZehSebastiaan oh I'm sorry i forgot you could do it better, why don't you shut the fuck up you little prick.

  • @ZehSebastiaan bitch

  • Star Spangled Mullets...

  • Sammy Hagar Looks like Robert Plant in here

  • best version I've heard with an electric guitar

  • @indgiu Really? I like Vai but I will say I lost respect for butchering this song. This song does not and should not include the whammy bar madness, randon riffs and added chords. My opinion though.

  • @shoutingback09 Yes, I mean I thought all those effects reinforced the meaning and intensity of the anthem, but I can understand if some people don't like it

  • @shoutingback09 have you heard jimi's version?

  • @shoutingback09 you have terrible taste.

  • 1:42 Triforce necklace O=

  • 1:44 WOW!

  • most bands throw a pick...Vai throws the whole fucking guitar. That's a GEM

  • @TheMonkeysGoOoh

    nay, that is a JEM

  • In many parts it sounded so out of place. What were you thinking Steve? lol

  • Love it, but Eric Johnson's is still way better. :)

  • i stood UP AND SALUTED !just now lol.

  • 1:30 mad yngwie

  • hendrix would be proud!

  • just threw the guitar ....... i would have litrally dived after it wtf cant just throw a guitar like that!!!

  • GUAU

    1:45

  • what is that last chord he plays? sounds so awesome!! cant be just a simple power chord... if so, whats the effect?

  • @mrbrenton182 I tabbed this song, check it out at ultimate-guitar. just search steve vai star spangled banner. Steve Vai uses a WAH peddle and lots of delay at parts. It is a simple power chord, but at the end i play it with an E, then G, then D, then back to E. Sounds really good and great end to the song.

  • @TheBronzePig thanks very much!! :)

  • @mrbrenton182 Sounds like an add9 chord, maybe with the fifth as bass-note.

  • And after the game Darryl Strawberry supplied everyone with party favors.Imagine Sam Kinison after a few lines :p

  • I think we can all agree that steve vai is the shit.

  • @TheBronzePig what anybody that thumbs up probably doesn't have a guitar like his

  • 1:45-1:46 -wow

  • i have watched/played this video countless times and im just now noticing that its a 7 string guitar.

  • er hat echt seine gitarre kaput gemacht

  • united states of animals

  • @SydSlang fuck you, go rot in a sack

  • it reminds me of the bruce springsteen's " born in the USA thing" ( wich was antipatriotic but used by reagan as a patriotic song), Hendrix played the national anthem with bomb sounds to protest again vietnam to make the statement that the USA anthem was associated with massacres in the world, but now, all theses guitarists inspired by hendrix play it like a hommage, which was not intented by Hendrix at all

  • @mouloudo Well, the tradition of playing the anthem before sporting events existed long before Hendrix played it...But in general, i agree with you!

  • 2:06 Hey those are the guys from Wayne's World... Not!!!

  • what was that last chord he played?

  • I think that a solo played from steve vai can quite possibly MELT CHUCK NORRIS' FACE

  • Yeah, that's right. Steve Vai doesn't have to take his hat off for the National Anthem. He's that cool.

  • WHY IS THERE A DISLIKE BUTTON?!?!?!?

  • one of the best guitarists of Brazil: everson improviso

  • goosebumps everytime

  • i played this on 9/11

  • amazing!

  • This is the only version I've ever heard besides Jimi's that i even felt the need to listen to the end. It still isn't anywhere near Jimi but this at least is a somewhat original interpretation. Every other one I've heard is just a weak copy of Hendrix. Kudos, Mr. Vai!

  • Although....dude at 1:44 "Wow"

  • Those chicks didn't look impressed at 1:20.

  • @6Vital6Remains6 No one really knew who Vai was back in the late 80s.

  • @6Vital6Remains6 No one really knew who Vai was back in the late 80s.

  • one M0:00re time!

  • Best star "spangled banner"

  • 1:45 WWOW :D

  • 1:30 Yngwie isn't happy

  • Ummmmmm,,,

    Why throw the guitar D;

    I'd like to have it D;

  • japanese guitar + british amps + italian virtuoso =NOISE IMHO. I'll take Hendrick's version any day

  • @jdean0001 agreed, that sounded like garbage lol, Vai rocks and managed to mutilate that tune..probably with good reason. -.^

  • @jdean0001 that must be teh BEST COMMENTE EVER MADE under a Music-related Video!

and props also for underlining at least how "MUltinational-based" this Star Spangled Banner version is! XD

w--wait..wasnt it the USA anthem? X3

  • please see YOUTUBE/ICEBREAKER"Breakdown"

with blind guitar prodigy Jared Hara also please see:

YOUTUBE/Best In Shred Finalist Jared Hara

  • needs more cowbell

  • rarely have I had the sound guitar give me chills, but at 1:25 I had my hair on my neck standing. Freakin unbelievable, awesome version.

  • @cushcalvaress whoa, actually when that part happened, my hair stood on my neck too

  • okay. steve vais awesome, but hez adding maybe a little to much extra shit hahaa

  • @effrainm I agree... I enjoy Steve Vai's playing, and there is no doubt he is an amazing guitarist, but I always get put off by his silly little sound effects. There randomly placed in his songs, the sounds have nothing to do with the rest of the material that he plays, and totally distracts and takes away from the main theme of the song. Besides, any little kid with a guitar can pull a whammy bar, so he's not exactly accomplishing much, anyway...

  • @Bludhoundz8 alot of the stuff vai does with the bar is complex and all those "sound effects" are what make the songs more interesting then just a melody

  • @cjrocker1 Either way, I just personally feel that it takes away from the song. Satriani just throws in a little whammy bar here and there for his songs, and it suits them just fine. Vai just throws them in without a second thought, not bothering to see whether or not it would fit with the song.

  • @Bludhoundz8 if anything satch relies on the bar way more than vai thats one of satches biggest aspects of his playing.

  • @Bludhoundz8 We all hear music differently, and I like most of Vai's whammy bar exploits. For me, they do fit with the music - because it is Steve's music, his expression. You can have your opinion - but just don't expect everyone will agree (likewise to me of course). We're all turned on by different things after all.

  • only jimi hendrix

  • Steve Vai is on the record as saying he prefers Hendrix's version over his - and that his is just a "fancy copy of the woodstock version" - and without it he would never have had the idea to do that.

    So take it from Vai...

  • goose bumps @ 1:22

  • @13scott71 goosebumps @ 1:33 - 1:38

  • @13scott71 That's a big 10-4 on the goosebumps Scott-71.

  • @13scott71 That's a big 10-4 on the goosebumps Scott-71.

  • @13scott71 you mean @ 1:33

  • @TOYDOLLSKID no @ 1:22

  • Star Spangled Banner is sexy when played by Steve Vai;an anthem has never been played like that since then.

  • did....he...seriously throw his guitar -.-''

  • @delau12 Read description, Guitar tech caught it for him.

  • 0:45 Sammy Hagar was there?

  • I don't know why people like jimi Hendrixs one at one at woodstock this ones a thousand times better

  • @sportslover26 cause his was the original one.

  • 1:45 YOU RIGHT: UAU!!!

  • best one imo

  • He obviously doesnt suck. But,he has never really been my thing.I really prefer someone like Jeff Loomis.I know they are different and everyone has their favorite and thats what makes it so great. There is someone for everybody,as long we keep listening and exploring thats what its all about to me.Take care and peace.

  • I'm sick of losers saying "he plays with no soul" or "he is shit". I mean i'm not a "fanboy", but If you don't like Steve Vai, don't watch his videos. It's actually that simple!

Do you not have anything better to do, than to complain and whinge on a video-sharing website. It's quite pathetic!

  • vai kicks ass dont litsen to these douche bags:D

  • R.I.P. guitar. :(

  • Haha funny the way some people a looking at Vai, as he most be fucking crazy... excuse me my language.

  • God i wish i had hes passion and warfare gutar!!

  • I agree with @plubber10 . No matter what i get an eargasm.

  • I could personally care less about who is better bla bla bla. This sounded great in my ears. weeeeeee

You can take all the talent in the world and make a super difficult hard to play song that sounds like turd. who cares

  • oh see can you see? STEVE VAI plays for thee, he's guitar playing can't be surpassed and he kicks major ass.

  • Kurt Cobain is better

  • sammy hagar at 0:45?

  • Jimi would be not be proud of this. Shame on you Vai. Shame on you.

  • @HMG5588 are you kidding me I love vai and Jimi was all about innovation silly. He would have proud with all vai has accomplished especially the 7 string guitars. If you knew anything about Jimi you would know that he was always about the new thing out for guitars so if he was still alive today he would be wailing out there with that whammy bar just like Vai, Satriani, etc.

  • @BenitutuORstfu If you knew anything about music, you would know the difference between a good performance and a bad act. But you're not there yet. So keep studying. Don't give up.

  • @HMG5588 interesting point...it has nothing to actually do with music though

  • @BenitutuORstfu Wrong. What Steve Vai does in every song of his is play scale runs repeatedly and at different speeds. He does manage to construct some basic melody. But for the most part, it's a patch work of scales either loosely or tightly packed together. He's a hack. He has no imagination. He could of played the Star Spangled Banner in many unique ways. But he chose to just throw in some semi Jimi ideas and more scale runs. Pathetic.

  • @HMG5588 god stop replying with answers that make no sense moron. He is against scale runs and honestly who do u think is a good guitarist because I know almost know guitarist who has more innovation than Vai. Honestly dude do the research before u comment...

  • @BenitutuORstfu Jackass. Your opinion is nothing more than a mass of gas from your ass. Shawn Lane was a true guitarist. Vai, EVH, Satch, and that Swedish guy are not true guitarists. They are all 6-string masterbaters passing themselves off as guitarists to an audience of ignorant fools who don't know any better. But that's OK. This is America and you can be all you can be. So enjoy that slop and slop it up. Oh, and Rev. Horton Heat is 100x a better guitarist than Vai.

  • @HMG5588 really? all he does is play scale runs repeatedly at different speeds? that is the most general statement I have ever heard, and can be used to describe how ANY melody is written, its set up with segments of scales at different speeds, nothign more. SO your an idiot.

  • @DavidTJudkins There are skeletal melodies constructed by Vai. But all he does is flesh out a complete song by running scales and playing obvious chord changes to them that really have no unique imagination. That means that nothing he has written will be remembered as being iconic. Therefore, talents like Vai are a dime a double 6-pack. I can go to my local Guitar Center and hear 16yr old kids doing his stuff with ease. That's not talent. That's scale practice. Nobody plays like the greats.

  • @HMG5588 Although, there's always those few in the crowd who can't get attention from anyone else, and strive off of making delusional comments on videos they wish they were in. It's ok guys, if you try hard enough you will eventually find SOMEONE who will agree with you, I mean look, you and Callaghan can go have a bro date YAY!

  • @DavidTJudkins You just made a statement that has no substance at all. And that could only be because you are totally ignorant of the subject at hand. Right? And because you are proud and arrogant, no way would you ask for answers, correct?

  • @DavidTJudkins It's true though, he plays quickly through scales with no feeling, only stopping at notes as is obligatory to resolve the melody. I wish I could be more eloquent at this hour, but the most accurate way of putting it is, he fucking sucks.

  • @7th75thCallaghan Ok, so to add substance to your remarks, make a quick video, improvise over a I,IV, V run and make it sound anywhere near as good as he does. Lets see how "grand" you are in comparison. I am sick of you idiots who don't know anything about musical composition try and put people down. He has made tons of money, where is your money for your compositions? You cannot fight it, people are playing thousands of dollars for one of his guitars, so again, obviously your wrong.

  • @DavidTJudkins Since when does money have anything to do with talent lol? You truly are an artless moron. People will pay thousands of dollars for all kinds of stupid shit, signifies nothing. Go learn what music is about, then we can talk.

  • I can't believe the amount of people not seeing the brilliance in this.

  • 1:22. i had the same expresiion. so fukin' lame.

  • Was that Sam Kinison at 1:29

  • @silverarj hes not italian he is an american-italian just sayin

  • God... he ruined this.

  • 2:09 that sound is just................ amazing

  • ok so that sounded like total shit i was expecting much more from Vai

  • DAMN AWESOME SOLOES BUT 2:19 HOW CAN U DO THAT U ASSLIKER ;)

  • @bomberman1992 "Don't worry, the guitar was caught by Steve's tech and is alive and well."

  • i really mad he threw that beautiful guitar
