Ha ha, you could but that would make these pickups sound VERY lean and bright. THe load of the pot shapes the frequency curve of the pick up. So higher values you get a steeper, narrower presence peak...
Hi, Thanks! The amp was only modded with a post phase inverter master volume, no gain mods. It was however rebuilt with ptp board and set up for early 70's specs not 60's plexi as it was stock. I also use a DOD 250 overdrive pedal ala Yngwie. Check my other videos which have more thorough equipment explanations.
Do I understand that Yngwie Signature strat is coming out of the plant stock with a 250k volume pot but with HS-3's? If so that is typical cluelessness by Fender.
Hey Metalgod sounds like you and I are on the same sheet of music! I had my 308 modded with old 741 op amp by analogue man, then did further mods myself. I changed the clipping diodes to germanium, put in funky old ceramic disc caps and put a switch to toggle between fat 10nf input cap and cleaner 2nf. Yes PPIMV is the best master volume design there is (there is a better version than the "rich mod" btw) but nothing beats a cranked marshall!
Hey glad you found the problem! See my rant about 500k pots on Harmony central HS-3 review..but don't take offense! Yes HS-3's need 500k volume pot if you want it to sound like a strat. I installed a pull pot on the treble knob on my 50 so I can take the 680nf cap in or out when ever I want. Also make sure your bright cap is proper spec for Yngwie tone. 4.7nf is classic early 70's spec but if that is too bright and nasty try 1nf. Lately I've decided 4.7nf is too much.
Great playing. Have you written the tablature down for this bit? If you have...send over a copy of it...I wonder how well I can play this lovely tune.
Hey, I flattered! But sorry I am very undisciplined when it comes to electric. I play like I cook; never the same results twice which could be avoided if I took the time to write down what I did!
You don't get more or less power tube distortion at low volumes than you do with pre-phase inverter master. If you want power tube distortion you have to play loud. However, many like me, believe the sound of the phase inverter tube distorting was actually accounting for what was thought to be power tube distortion which is why the amp sounds so similar to cranked at low volume with a ppimv. High volume sound is also caused by compression, speaker distortion, ears bleeding-room shaking etc!
This PPIMV turns one volume knob into gain and distortion for the preamp INCLUDING the phase inverter tube. A second pot controls feed into the power stage after the phase inverter. This sounds MUCH better than pre-phase inverter masters becuase it allows the phase inverter to overload just like it does when/if the amp had no master and is just cranked up towards full power. E-mail me if you want more explanation, I'm out of room to reply further.
Hi, that's a hard question to answer. This was recorded with a cheap camera that captured more room sound than direct. I used and Eventide too. If you're up to it, you SHOULD build a ptp board. It will sound better by far and much easier to swap out caps and resistors. This amp is modded but modestly. Mods include pp master vol, 10H choke instead of stock 3H, tube effects loop, smoothing cap, slightly bumped up plate resistors. Check out my newest clip with resonance mod added to amp.
This amp sings with strats, I am saving for one. YJM used one, so does Eric Johnson, two of my favorite tones ever. Do you use a powerbrake? Or is it master volume?
Hi, in addition to a complete rebuild and tube effects loop I added a special master volume design thanks to the gurus at metroamps. It is a post phase inverter type but not the "rich mod" version. This one does not mess up bias at low volumes or turn into a condenser microphone at high volumes!
Hi, Well since I did the mod myself total cost was for a $5.00 pot and some shielded wire. I have no idea what a tech would charge but it's pretty simple and easy to do.
Yngwie uses early 70's (pre 73) Marshall 50w non-master volume heads. This amp was originally a reissue plexi 50w that was completely rebuilt with metro amps ptp hand wired board and then set to early 70's specs ala yngwie (0.0022 v1, .68 v2, max power amp gain etc) So in the end yes, same amp. However,I also added a tube effects loop with a Hush and Eventide H-3000 in the loop and a super clean post phase inverter master volume so I won't go deaf.
Hi, I LOVE this guitar! It has a rare-for-fender 12 inch radius, and what feels like a touch thinner than standard C shape but still meaty enough. Nice silky satin finish too. Plays really solid, no warble etc.
Amp is vintage four input 50W marshall head there is overdrive channel, just stock early 70s gain with a post phase inverter master volume added. The Yngwie pedal is rebuilt to vintage specs. The pedal pushes the amp over the edge and mixes in a very small amount of distortion. Stock vintage marshall distortion is only mild crunch but very dynamic, uncompressed and takes pedals REALLY well. The pedal is also very low gain but explosive in combination with this type of amp!
thanks for the compliments everyone. I think people either love or hate this type of tone. I call my high gain clean tone...it sounds like a clean strat but is actually pretty crunchy-distorted and sustains really well.
let mi guess u use dod 308 , delay , ns-2?? but how u swtich it back to clean when on stage

If 500k pots aren't enough, just cut out the middle man and go for a 1 mega ohm.

Hey! ;) Sounds just awesome!
I've got the same amp ;) Can you remember the settings of the amp? Is the amp modded or did you use pedals?

does a PPI master volume give the amp seperate preamp gain and power amp gain controls?

If I got the Metro Amps kit, how similar would it be to this? This is killer tone! Nice playing.

I know nothing about electronics or amps. I might buy a 1987x head soon, I'll look into the mod.

How you do the reverb/delay? in front of amp or mic'd then add at recorder? Sounds cool either way!

Hi. I have use an Eventide H-3000D/SX in the effects loop of the amp. The older Eventides are the rolls royce of digital sound!

question? your using malmsteens pedal right? but are you also using the overdrive channel on yoour amp?
