  • She is so good Praise Her

  • Guh, she's just amazing. There's just no doubt about it. <3

  • If she would have hit this in all around she would have been atleast silver ... there is no way she would have beat Lilia though

  • I was so happy when she got an individual medal even if it was bronze. She worked so hard and deserved an olympic medal that was all hers.

  • Excellent routine

  • Dawes should have qualified on her own for this EF, she got shafted in the compulsories where they didnt even give her a 9.7 for that routine. At the time, the US was pulling away from the rest of the countries, and the judges tried to keep a lid on the US to keep Rumania in the hunt.

  • @metsdudenj - I agree that she should've been in ef rightly, but I think the problem was that comps shouldnt have been relative to ef quals. If u wana include it in AA, then ok, but ef is where u wana see event specialists doing their thing..not a gymn who happened to have a balletic line but no specialist skills in a routine..ef should have ALWAYS been void of comp scores imho...

  • She makes me just smile when I watch her :)

  • She seemed to grow up over night, in this final she really looked like she was a woman and beautiful, poised and worthy of a medal.

  • Even though I never got into gymnastics, this black woman made me believe that I could something important in life.

  • @monilove5 Now if THAT ain't the truth!!! I remember 9 years old watching the Atlanta Olympics just in awe. Still in awe :)

  • 9.837 - 3rd place.

  • That final pass where she hit the ground right at the climax of the song and spread her arms as if she was some graceful black bird was stupendous.

  • It looks like her back is made of rubber and can bend in all different directions. Also, it looks like she can jump in the air and "get stuck in mid air"...lol. And she can grab on to the air like there were invisible handlebars and do a hand stand in the air. Also lay on top of the air like there was an invisible bed holding her up. Is this a trick camera or is this real???????? It's just amazing!!!!!!! like she is swimming in the air as if it were water.

  • These olympics are moments in gymnastics history that still to this day, years later, give me the same goosebumps I got watching it as a little girl! Amazing olympic games for US gymnastics!

  • I love her to death, but I think she just couldn't handle the pressure ever...she always seemed to cave under pressure during the worlds and even olympics, but when she hit, she hit big time!! I love her 94 Floor Routine!! :)

  • I've never really been a fan of her gymnastics. Horrible dance and presentation, and have you seen her form on beam ,it makes me vomit. SHe also has a nack for cracking under pressure when it matters most. The two biggest aa competitions of her life she fell. I was upset when she won this bronze

  • @paiges38 Then why comment and watch the video. Dom may not have been strong emotionally, and may have cracked under pressure, but she always came through for the team. She's the main reason why the US team even were able to win a silver in the '94 World Team Championships. Also, her floor routines, to me, were some of the best floor routines ever performed. And she's the only one from the '96 team to have ALL of her scores count towards the gold, she made the fewest errors on the team.

  • @Mikizzle15 she always came through for the team? Did you notice her suck in the Sydney TF? She was completely overrated throughout her career. USA gymnastics would have been better without her

  • @paiges38 I agree, she wasn't all that great in Sydney. But you have to give her credit for coming back at almost 24 years old, which is considered ancient in gymnastics for a woman, and competing. But NEVER was she by any means overrated. I personally loved her and everything she did. And I hate when people say she's overrated, because being a little black girl it was great to watch someone who looked like me succeed in a sport where she shouldn't have by statistics.

  • @Mikizzle15 OH yeah i agree she was NEVER overrated. Dominique is one of my favorite gymnasts of all time. I always felt so bad because she always had such bad luck in the all around at major competitions. She would have deserved to win because of her incredible difficulty and she always seemed like such a genuinely nice person!!

  • @paiges38 bitch go kill yourself she was better then Shannon and all the others any day of the week she just didn't get what she was deserved cause at that time it was still a race issue. I'm just so glad we have a "nigger" running the country now that all the redneck crackerheads can't stand.

  • @catchthisbuck "I'm just so glad we have a "nigger" running the country now that all the redneck crackerheads can't stand."

Hell yeah!! I love to know of the KKK's members from the South that are still living, when they go DOWNstairs, they can tell their cronies how a black man is running the country. I get giddy thinking about that!! LOL!! There heads will explode when an Asian or Mexican-American becomes President!

  • @bubblinbrownsugar616 - There will be Latin and Asian presidents sooner than anyone expects..because the US is a country made up of such diverse citizenship..were one of few countries w such diversity...a beautiful thing..along w Dawes' performance ;-)

  • Nobody but nobody has ever done a better double layout - She just FLIES through the air and LANDS in a laid out position - not the slightest hint of piking the landing.

  • @Chutson353 Agree- her double layout is great! I remember being bummed when I heard she was getting rid of the back-to-back passes in order to favor the double layout. Then I saw it haha....wise move!

  • Look at all of those camera flashes in the audience... none of them are digital XD

  • I LOVE the way she finnishes her passes! (: (: (:!

  • Beautiful!!!

  • Just curious, what's a bigger deduction, sitting down or going out of bounds?

  • @tmwalkerm Going out of bounds. With the scoring system during this time period, anytime you fell off of an aparatus or went out of bounds it was automatically 5 tenths of a deduction. So since her routine was out of a 10, the going out of bounds dropped it to 9.5 and also take .3 away for the fall so her routine started out at 9.1 and they scored it from that.

  • @Mikizzle15 Actually with going out of bounds, it is typically a 1/10 deduction, and under the old code, the judges could deduct anywhere from 1/10 to 5/10ths.

  • @QueenieQue But she also fell with the going out of bounds. So that's what I was including.

  • @Mikizzle15 Well, actually, your comment implies that going out of bounds is a bigger deduction than sitting down, while really sitting down is a bigger deduction than merely going out of bounds. Obviously falling out of bounds is worse than falling in-bounds, but your comment didn't make that clear.

  • @QueenieQue My bad. Sometimes I confuse my facts when I try to explain something. lol. You're right.

  • @tmwalkerm I meant that it started at 9.2. lol. My math is off. haha.

  • I like to see her smile, she really enjoys what she does, watch her smile when she finishes her second pass, her first pass look so so easy for her, and the way she finishes her last pass, wow, she knew she did a great routin.

  • @1Timoteo41 Even though you're right and she loved what she did, I don't think that's why she was smiling during the second pass. She had fallen on the second pass during the individual all-around a couple of days before and fell from 1st place all the way to like 19th or something like that. that's why the second pass got the loudest cheer, because everyone wanted her to get this ef medal because it was heart-breaking when she lost the all-around competition.

  • Man i miss dominique she performed so beautiful always

  • Daiane Dos Santos from Brazil, fab tumbler and World Champion of floor.

Personally I was thrilled when DD came through, she had a coach that was an egotistical arsehole and she was prissy like Shannon Miller...I think she did inspire black girls to go into gymnastics, which makes the sport richer..there others at the same time Stella Umah and Zita Lusack, who were less high profile.

  • i wish kelli hill were my coach. shes super nice (i've never seen her yell or look mad or dissapointed, even when they do bad), her gymnasts are world class and they look happy with their gymnastics.

  • Her flips are sick...Love her.

  • I don't care what anyone says: On her best day, Dominique could be touched by NO ONE! The only unfortunate thing about that statement is that she never had her best day when it really counted...the US Championships notwithstanding. If she could've performed like this in AA...she would've gotten at least silver. But she is still the "Carly Patterson/Nastia Liukin" for little black girls in gymnastics. Dominique set the standard...for that...she's legendary.

  • Don't forget Betty Okino and Elvire Teza (though she was on the French team) No they didn't get the loudest cheers like Awesome Dawesome, but they put moves on the books I've seen no one do but them!

  • ummm, she's for all races not just black, I hope you didn't mean for that to sound as racist as it does!

  • Why is it, that whenever race is brought into a convo, the black person is playing the "race card?" I was simply saying, that little black girls watched this and was like "I can do that to." You really think they got that feeling from watching Shannon Miller? It's just a random coincidence that AFTER DD made the '96 team, a massive INFLUX of 6 year-old black girls ran to the nearest gym, huh? I've been into gymnastics as both a participant and spectator. I can tell you, I was inspired by....

  • Wow, 3 posts to try to cover up your veiled racism....very telling! No doubt lots of 6 year old girls of ALL races were inspired to run to their nearest gym. You get over yourself, I'm not the one trying to defend a racist comment, intended or not...YOU ARE!

  • Racist? "Little black girls...." That's racist to you? Well, in any event, the comment was misconstrued; but you OBVIOUSLY have a jaded view of what racism is. It's funny how those who've never experienced racism, can be such experts. I knew my intentions and I stand by my statement. Didn't like the statement? All you had to do was ignore it and leave me the fuck alone. After all, that comment was posted OVER three FUCKING months ago and only YOU are the only one who took offense to it.

  • Wow, so sensitive! If your comment wasn't racist then why are you getting so bent out of shape over my interpretation of it??? Dom is an inspiration to ALL gymnasts regardless of their race, you saying that only little black girls were and are inspired by her is narrow-minded and veiled racism, and you more or less said that all black people look alike, how ignorant is that? Now that I've outted you go to your tea bagger rally and DIE!!!!

  • First off, you cum guzzling thundercunt...I never said ONLY black girls were inspired by her. You assumed that because you took what I said out of context. I never said that blacks look alike. You said that. I don't look ANYTHING like Dominique. I said that, as a majority, we have big, flat feet; which makes us great at track, football, and basketball; but when it comes to ballet, gymnastics, etc. we have to work harder because our body types aren't naturally made for those sports...

  • Sensitive? No. But will I come for you for calling me something I'm not? Definitely. You don't know me, and I be damned if I let you call me racist. Nah, bitch. It ain't going down like that. I never said that DD wasn't an inspiration for all. I believe she is. But I still believe that DD is an inspiration for black gymnasts; just like I believe Venus and Serena are inspirations for black tennis players. It's not racist to think that and fuck you for trying to make me think that way.

  • again, only black people are inspired by black athletes....hmmmmmm....how typical.....and it never was a debate because I was right from the get-go..asswipe.

  • Again. I NEVER SAID "BLACKS ONLY INSPIRE OTHER BLACKS!" You did. But you can't tell me, that black athletes don't inspire other black athletes, because they do. Watch a corny-ass segment on Sportcenter. Proofs in the media, trick bitch.

You know, in the three months my posting was up, NO ONE said anything. On a video with tens of thousands of views, YOU are the only one got offended. Makes me wonder 'bout you and the white sheets you're hiding behind! Where's your "colors?" Punk ass bitch...

  • And I can honestly say this "debate" is over. You're the only person in HISTORY who has ever called ME(of ALL people) narrow-minded, which just gave me an epiphany: "Why fight a battle of wits with an unarmed person?" I have friends of all races, creeds, orientations, religions, etc. If you're good to me. I'm good to you. And not for anything 90% of my crew is white. So lick my fucking cock!

"Twatface?" Really? That's all you got? ROTFLMBAO!!

    The "B" in ROTFLMBAO=BLACK=racist comment

  • WTFever, all of your comments just prove your true "colors"....please die.

  • Yep. You saw straight through me. I tried to hide them, but you saw my feelings through the computer. I'm just a cracker hating, peckerwood bashing, ethnocentric nigger. You got me. Big ol' fuckin' racist. Dat's meh!

    There.

I said it. Can't take it back.

    Now we're "both" happy.

    Have a nice one.

  • Again, trying to justify....hmmmmmm.

  • You are, like, the biggest choad....

  • that did sound racist even when it was not your intention and the other guy was offensive to you by sayng die just for your comment.

  • You people need to learn the difference between racism and ethnocentrism. Let's face facts, in 1996, there were NOT a lot of female black gymnasts. Leading up to those games I can think of three: Dominique, Betty Okino, and the PATRIARCH Dianne Durham, the 1st black gymnast to win all-around/Bela first protege after defecting). Dominique was definitely the most decorated and well-known. My little cousin couldn't wait to get into a gym after watching her win AA in 1995.

  • @akademikn3rd82 No disrespect, but women are MATRIARCH's. lol. Men are Patriarch's. haha.

  • LOL! Matriarchs, patriarchs...Tomayto, Tomoto. She was a leading figure was the point I was trying to make. I was waiting for someone to call me out on that. I noticed it AS I was hitting "post" comment.

BTW, I forgot one more gynmast....Andreea Pickens was on the national stage at one time...before 'Bama.

  • Actually, "tomayto, tomoto" is a horrible analogy to describe this situation. Those are two pronunciations of the same word whereas patriarch is derived from the Latin "Pater" meaning father (i.e. a man) and matriarch is derived from the Latin "Mater" meaning mother (i.e. a woman). The fact that you would use those words interchangeably indicates that you are extremely stupid. The fact that you find that error analogous to a difference in pronunciation indicates that you are fucking retarded.

  • @akademikn3rd82, you must be pretty fucking stupid not to know what a patriarch is. It doesn't really matter in this case but if you called a human woman a patriarch you'd be using the term incorrectly as a patriarch refers to a man.

  • Don't make me out to be something I'm not. I felt proud of our achievements in a sport where we're uncommon. I pointed out the reason, I feel, for our uprise in the sport: Dominique. So sue the FUCK outta me if it offended people. But I refuse to retract what I said, because I said it out of pride; not prejudice. Get the fuck off my sack...

  • the Chainey Humphreys, Dominique Dawes', Betty Okinos, Jair Lynchs etc...

If you hadn't noticed, blacks don't really have the "ideal" body type for gymnastics. Well technically. For the majority, our feet are big and wide, making pointing almost impossible. Our stregnth is power. But with hard work it can happen. Even DD has said that she had to work REALLY hard on form because "she wasn't like everybody else" and USA Gymnastics wasn't sure how she would be recieved internationally....

  • All I'm saying is that when an athlete "looks" like you do, especially in a sport where you're NOT the standard, it inspires you. Ask Tasha Schwikert or Ashley Miles, who their fave gymnast was/is. Do you NOT think that because of Cullen Jones' performance in the pool at Beijing, more black kids are going to be swimmers? It's the "if he did it, i can do it to" mentality.

Not trying to offend, not everything is racially

    motivated. It's 2009...get over yourself.

  • @akademikn3rd82 She was a role model for black guys in gymnastics like myself when I was younger. Chainey Umphrey was good but was a real force and floor was also my specialty. She seemed inconsistent but it seems she always came thru when the real pressure was on.

  • which music is this?

  • She got bronze?!

    She sshould've got gold!

  • Was always impressed with the height on her jumps.

So glad she got the bronze.

  • Those of you who are saying Moceanu deserved bronze over Dawes are blinded by your infatuation with the "cutesy-wutesy" darling 14 year old crap that the media(NBC particularly) tried to force down our throats at the time. Her choreohraphy matches her music but as someone who despises country music, I'd say her routine was far from being the best.

  • i agree with you Monceanue was no where near the class of these routines but was so cute.. her less than stellar rotine (with perfect music) was supposed to uplift her to gold.... do get me wrong she did her part in the gold for the team but didnt outshine the top gymnasts...

  • @mzmissa Moceanu was one of the most overrated and overscored gymnasts in gymnastics history. She should have even been in floor finals in the first place even with Strug's injury and Miller's mistake in team optionals.

  • @grafgirl27 I agree. And I think it's funny how people call D Dawes a choke, yet Moceanu NEVER lived up to any of her hype. D Dawes went on to three Olympics and won 4 medals, and won 4 world championship medals, and also has won more National medals than any other person in history. Yet Moceanu, who only won 2 world championship medals and 1 Olympic medal gets more hype. I don't understand it.

  • @Mikizzle15 You are right. Dawes was never given the hype of Zmeskal, Moceanu, even Miller, yet she is still called a dissapointment for contending and winning individual and team medals for almost a decade. What a joke. I understand it is a bummer she didnt come through in some of those AAs and a few other EFs but she had a great career. If anyone was a huge flop it was Moceanu. All that hype and she has what to show? 1 Olympics, a team gold, and a beam silver.

  • @grafgirl27 The difference is thatr Zmeskal, Moceanu and Miller had coaches who were obnoxious, loud and egotists, so everybody knew about them. Kelli Hill is quiet and always put the gymnast ahead of herself, so Dominique got less hype but also less pressure expect from herself. With a different coach Moceanu could have been great, she had all talent.

  • @emmyjo720 enthusiasm is NOT the same as enthusiasm. Steve Nunno had SO MUCH enthusiasm. His loudness might not have been so noticeable if Shannon Miller wasn't so quiet. Bela is not obnoxious either, just letting you know.

  • @Mikizzle15 She's a cute lil white girl..true story..if Dom Dawes was white..she'd have so many more fans and would be ahead of Moceanu on youtube searches...but it is what it is..

  • @dmann3g what a load of crap. people dont care about colour in gymnastics any more than they care about nationality..... we love it!

  • @grafgirl27 she wa soverrated because she came from karoli's ranch, i swear they hype up every gymnast that comes from there

  • @mzmissa Did someone actually SAY that Moceanu deserved bronze over Dawes? WOW..Moceanu mounted with Dawes' dismount...

  • 'No Kelli..I'm gonna DISmount w this media creations' MOUNT..'

  • Comment removed

  • @mzmissa Sheesh you say that like it was her music that made her mediocre comparatively. I don't disagree with you, I'm just saying you're not putting up a good argument.

  • How come she got to represent Strug in VT and FX EF? And AA?

I would give Moceanu bronze, sorry :D

  • actually Dawes was already a lock for the all around finals, her and shannon miller, but the 3rd spot was between kerri strug and dominique monceanu and when kerri did her famous vault and twisted her ankle, she had to withdrawl from the all around leaving monceanu to pick up the 3rd spot.. As far as the event finals, only the top 2 scores per country (2 gymnasts) are allowed for finals and since kerri would have qualified but had to withdrawl, the next highest score is in.. that was dawes

  • Oh..thanks! :D

  • I would also give moceanu bronze.

  • Bitch, you're crap. How dare you talk about our "queen." Fuck you and the Romanian horse you rode in on. Especially with Simona Amanar looking like shit choregraphically, you shouldn't say anybody looks like shit. Romanian gymnastics is OVER. It's all about the Chinese vs. US now. With US all-stars like Mattie Larson, Samantha Shapiro, etc. coming along the ranks Romanians can forget it...

  • Shapiro is an all star. pah.

  • wow harsh

  • this was the total package. amanar, other than strong tumbling, was horrendous. podkopayeva didn't have stronger tumbler but won on overall presentation.

  • if she had done this she would of at least got a metal

  • She earned a Bronze medal for this routine.

  • im talking about the AA finals. i know she got a bronze on the floor event.

  • Ohh my mistake. You are so right. :)

  • no its cool lol

  • man, the gymnasts from these olympics could've done without the crowd..jeez

the song from this routine is very nice, although the beginning really reminds me of shushunova's floor routine song!

  • HATERRRRZZZZ!

    SHE KILLED IT!

  • Lilia may have been a 'good' dancer (by gymn standards) but just because u liked her better, don't try and convince urself that Lilia had harder tumbling. Not by a longshot.

  • Olympic Gold Medalist. 4 ever!!:)

  • Dominique is my FAVORITE Gymnist, loved her tumbles!

  • hey its gymnastics here. not gymnasts id like to fuck,so go to x tube and relive some of that friskiness berfre u come here thanks :)

  • agree, I heard she barely made it back cuz she ran to the bathroom before he name was called, guess they didnt have plumbing in romania so she took advantage of that in Atlanta. I think Amanars tumbling was amazing, and she did out tumble Dawes with a triple twist that was extra, so I think the judges were correct in giving her the silver, but I dont believe she deserved it

  • I actually think think your choices are correct, but Moceanu had the best presentation and music of the final, and remember her routine was from a 10 with the upgraded second pass, I think she deserved 4th

  • Moceanu only made the final because the media had decided that she was the American 'it' girl of the year. Her routine didnt even start out of a 10 in qual.

  • she made the floor final 'cause Kerri was pulled out due to her injury; so the US had to replace her w/ a gymnast w/ the next higest score!

  • No...ironically, thats how Dawes made the final..even though the routine competed in ef, is the routine in which, she had the highest US score..thank GOD they got rid of compulsories..could you imagine basketball, or any other SPORT with a round of requirements for all individuals??? Exactly..no you cant!

  • love her smile when she succeed her second pass

  • Dawes would have scored higher is she had better angle on her second pass. She was off to the side a bit in that landing, but she still was good. I agree on Amanar, her tumbling got her the silver, but she could not dance...

  • I am not sure if that made a difference, but the bobble on the triple turn probably cost her .1 and maybe the directional thing a .05

  • Gogean and Raducan are the only Romanians in the last 20 years who I thought were really good dancers. Maybe Olaru was good too, not excellent like the other two, but decent. The rest of the top Romanians since after Silivas retired couldnt dance their way out of a paper bag.

  • Gogean was an AWFUL dancer. She was probably the worst romanian ever at dancing. Raducan was ok, it's just a real shame that they never put in much effort to artistry, because there aren't many who could beat romanian tumbling.

  • Gogean was horrible at expressing herself but her dance technique was sound.

  • okay, can someone tell me there are 3 competitions in the olympics for gymnastics, are they on three seperate days?

  • well sort of...u have team comp day, all around day, and 2 days of event finals

  • okay thank you for replying. Now I hav another question. Say the olympics in 2012 are in august, and someones born in september or after that, and they are fifteen but born on an olympic year what happens?

  • I couldnt quite understand that. But heres my answer for what I do understand.

As long as they turn fifteen in an olympic year they are age elible

  • What you said is applicable to the '96 games as far as I can tell. I think that they made the age requirment to 16 in the Olympic year as of the '04 Olympic games, but they might have changed that for the '00 games, I forget which.

  • you have to be 16 or turning 16 that year

  • As long as your 16th birthday is ANYWHERE in the year that the Olympic games are going to take place, you are age eligible for a spot on the team.

  • k thanks!

  • Her punch front in her second pass was off line. Maybe that's what cost her the silver.

  • I think she was underscored the whole games. she had ridiculous height on her fullin pike at the end. Maybe she could have even thrown a double/double. I dont think the judges angle could see her punch front.

  • o. if the us team had shanon, domie and biog domie andddddd chow eperformed her best. they may have medaled.

  • I still think she should have won atleast silver, but I'm glad she got a medal after what happened in AA.

  • what happened to her? i dont get how in the second pass all she does is hurdle into that pass. she doesnt even run. was she coached by bella 2? i c simular dance moves between her adn little dominique. i dont like it when she doesnt keep her toes pointed on the ending pose.

  • (@eM)- I liked the simple hurdle. It was cool, a little different- & it showed that she didn't have to run at all to generate the power to complete the pass. Plus it helped her stay in bounds (which she had a bit of a problem doing anyway), lol.

You may see similarities between Dawes & Moceanu's dance b/c they had the same choreographer for their floor sets- Geza Poszar. (I don't see the similarities you're speaking of, though.)

I think the ending pose worked better w/ the flexed foot.

  • Dominique's score was a 9.837, Simona's was a 9.85, and Lilia's was a 9.887.

  • Dominique's score was a 9.837, Simona's was a 9.85, and Lilia's was a 9.887.

  • has anybody else noticed how everybody did double layouts in atlanta??

  • yeah quite a few did it. She would have killed the game off had she kept competing with the whip full... Never did it in the double layout pass but should have..

  • I agree also. But not nessessarily because of the dance. Those were 3 really big tumbling passes. Difficulty was about the same. Simona used the extra pass to cover for some other skills she didnt do to build the routine. Would have been just as easy for Dom to throw a double pass and do 4 as well.

  • not true... Dawes had 3 hard passes and she ended with a SUPER high full in double in the piked position. Amanar was very sloppy too

  • Yea, becus she was known to screw up on floor right? Get the fuk outta here.

  • Malaguena is the perfect song for her. Awesome. (Dawesome!)

  • dawes rocks my world!! ive wath that second many times its still awsome, amanar couldn't do it the same way, dawes is an all time great!!

  • One of America's best ever... Such power! too bad she never really won a major international gold individual medal.

  • I also agree with a couple of other points. First, she competed before Amanar and Podkopayeva. Had she gone last.. Considering she wasn't supposed to even BE in these finals, Kerri had to pull out. all that said, I'm cool with the results. could have gone either way, all 3 were worthy. I believe she should have gotten silver, but Amanar had 4 passes, and went after her in the lineup. had Dawes competed either after Amanar, home court advantage might have applied.

  • If only she did this in the AA, I know she would have attacked vault...

  • I agree! After beam she pretty much had it locked up! I thought for sure she would medal after beam. She had a much better chance than Shannon of winning the gold since Shannon's double layout had major problems and her vaulting wasn't as difficult as Dominique's. That just made it three meets where she should have won ('93 and 94 Worlds and '96 Olympics).

  • She was so underrated in event finals in Atlanta! This was the best floor routine of her career! She skies the double layout. She aggressively attacks the second combination pass and nails it! Then caps it off with the most beautiful high full in pike and rocks the landing on it I am glad they sent her home with the a medal, but that was definitely a golden exercise!

  • BY FAR THE BEST OLYMPICS ever! Loved this perfomance by her, she should have beat Amanar, Simona had the tumbling but sucked in artistry which is where Dominique beat her in, yet Simone got a much higher score!

  • I actually yhought it was good enough to get the gold. She nailed every element and the whip, BHS, 2.5, punch front pass was great considering she messed up in the AA I cant believe they didnt give it to her.

  • ON bars, she was denied, what should have been at least a tie for the Silver. Her exercise was difficult with flow and flawless! Judges kinda didn't want to reward the gymnast for the USA that coulda shoulda won the all around!

  • This routine should have won. I dont see any deductions.

  • The only deduction I could see is her 2nd pass is "out of line" with the corner to corner straight line.

  • yeah i see what you r talking about. but great tumbling!

  • The problem is that the judges coundnt see that... So it couldnt be a reason for deductions. And it actually wasnt out of line. She did that part on her punch front... The rest of it was right on.

  • This is the Dominique Dawes I loved. I wish she would have gone out on the high note of 1996 with a team gold and individual bronze. She had nothing else to prove by trying to stick around for what ended up being sub-par perfomances in Sydney. I will always love and cherish the Dominique of Atlanta, especially on this floor exercise performance.

  • Her performance was excellent in 2000 compared to the others. She made the Olympic team because she was not a headcase. Except for a PF on beam where she was 2 inches right, she was great in 2000.

  • beautiful! great posture.

  • A flawless triple turn! High up on toe and perfectly controlled and kicked out of!

  • yeah, i noticed that too

  • wow...memories. i use to IDOLIZE her. met her, got an autgraphed pic and everything. in any case she was (and still is) the queen of the floor exercise. AND she was so beautiful. truly magnificent.

  • Excellent! You just brought back a flood of memories for me. :) Thanks!

  • just fabulous

  • The first tumbling pass, the double lay-out is the best in the business. I could never understand why she had so much problems with the second tumbling pass. All in all she was amazing and has written a few chapters in gymnastics history. Thanks Dawes.

  • It was a relatively new pass for her. She took out the back-to-back tumbling because forward tumbling scored higher. The two and 1/2 twists to punch front is a hard(er) pass...and one which because of injuries in the 1995 season was all the harder for her to master. But she did it here.

  • She had always performed that pass when she did the back to back tumbling. Thats not a new skill for her.
